Rain tapped against the thick glass windows of the common room. Her father talking low to his eldest son Belain with his youngest son Cyain beside him. The lavished furniture that decor'd the room was perfectly polished, dusted and cleaned down to the finest detail. Crushed, dried flowers boiled slowly in the corner of the hearth, intoxicating the room with its perfumes. The colors of her home were nothing but the brightest, softest and nearest to royalty they could attempt to afford. It was no doubt in any of their minds they had gold and plenty of it to spend.
"Aziera! Are you listening to me!?" her mother snapped. Her chin was lifted to meet her mother's gaze. Bella, her mother had sharp hawk like features which Aziera herself resembled to almost a mirror perfection. Her hair was black as charcoal, drawn up high in a decorated bun.
"I'm listening..." she mumbled. Bella narrowed her gaze.
"Excuse me?"
"I said, I'm listening.. Mother." she spoke up slightly. Her eyes meeting her mother's finally. She felt her Father and two brother's eyes on her backside.
Bella tapped the bottom of Aziera's chin, then pressed on her shoulders, " Straighten up, I've told you a dozen times to keep a good image. It will be very important for you to give a perfect first impression."
Aziera pulled her shoulders back, her hands fluidly moved to fold in front of her as she stood with her back to the fireplace facing her mother who then began pacing back and forth. Bella opened the book again and picked up where she left off. A book she herself wrote on 'proper form' when diplomacy with royalty was involved or more importantly the Altmer. Aziera hated these lessons with a passion. Speak when spoken to, preform without question, neat, clean, organized. Perfection in her mother's eyes.
As her mother paced her gaze drifted to her siblings, her older brother of course was perfect in both her Mother and Father's eyes. He was a Dragon Knight and part of Father's personal business as a guard. Her younger of course was the baby of the family. He too was perfect. A Night Blade, fresh out of training he will be joining Father's business during the promotions ceremony. Aziera was sure he only wanted to join to get close to Father's first officer. A woman from the North side of Skywatch.
The book snapped shut, "Aziera!" Bella barked.
"I was listening!"
Bella paced back to stand in front of Aziera. "Why is it you can never focus, your eyes looked as empty as your head! You've no talent with the blade, you've no talent for combat. We've even hired the best privet trainers for you. They say you barely make it to practice and you're beyond clumsy with any kind of steel in your hands."
Aziera's face was hot, she hated when only her faults where pointed out. She was about to reply when something dashed across the window seal across the room. Her eyes widen slightly when she realized what it was.
"Perhaps I just wasn't ready.." she attempted diplomacy, "I was sent a new set of books today and a weapon I believe I may have much more success with."
Her mother waved her hand, a manner she often did when she was fed up with Aziera. "Go then, we have guests arriving soon. Be sure to be cleaned up and ready for them."
Aziera walked from the room, everything inside her screaming to run to the window, yet she refrained and in the hallway she closed the door to the Common room with a soft breath of relief. Quickly pulling off her shoes she darted into the next room over, her Father's study. She tossed open the window and leaned out looking around. "Where'd you go?" she whispered. At the corner of the house she spotted the small figure again turning out of sight. She backed up and pulled the window shut, running back out into the hall she dashed past the servants and into the dinning room. Skidding to a halt on the polished wooden floor she bumps into the window, pressing her face close to the glass she looks outside. Finding nothing she continues on into the kitchen.
There standing just inside the back door was a small blue feline. Bright orange eyes narrowed into slits. She grabs a towel and scoops him up. Side stepping the cook and another servant she climbs the stairs to her room. Drying off the kitten she smiles looking down at him, "My little knight in furry armor." she whispers. Her smile was genuine as she loved cats. Her family however, seemed to hate them...
Sitting in her window with the kitten laying across her legs she watches the road, the rain finally letting up seeming to make way for a small company. She leans closer to the window looking down. They pulled back their hoods as they approached the door.
"Altmer?" she mumbles to herself...
