Manager Expectations
This is what we expect, as a minimum, from our Manager rank. All managers must read and agree to meet these expectations. If your feel you cannot meet these expectations then that’s ok! We can make you a Collaborator so you can enjoy the game and the guild the way you prefer.
Post below to indicate that you have read this post. Those who have not replied by Friday (EST) will be moved to Collaborator rank.
- Run or assist with a guild event at least once a week.Managers are content providers. They are expected to provide regular events and enjoyable content to the members of Blue Skooma Co.
- Be involved on the website.Approve applications and invite successful applicants into the guild.
Greeting and promote new members in the Introduce Yourself forum.
Be active (or at least keep an eye on) the Managers Office forum.
Moderate forums carefully. - Defuse OOC drama.Do not escalate drama. Never involve non-managers in drama discussion unless absolutely necessary.
Attempt to defuse OOC in a polite, objective manner. This should be done in private so it does not escalate within the guild. - Follow the rules and lead by example.Have fun, be kind OOC and give when taking from the company. These are simple rules and very important to the success of the guild.
- Recruit.Use the guild recruitment spam or make your own IC version.
Protocols
How to recruit
All potential members will be directed the website where they will fill out an application for one of the communes. Once the application is filled out, only managers in that commune may approve or deny it.
Upon approval of the online application the new member will have the rank of Associate. If they wish to proceed to Collaborator rank, then they need to post a greeting in the Introduce Yourself forums.
Approving / Denying apps
We don’t have to let everyone in!
If you are not sure whether to approve or deny, go ahead and write why in the Admin Discussion section so other people looking at the application know.
Once you approve an application, be sure to invite the player by using the account name they entered in to the application and edit their note in the in-game roster to reflect the commune they are in.
It is best not to speak with that individual if you deny an application. Trust me.
Promoting Members
When an associate makes a thread introducing themselves in the Introductions forum, you have the option of promoting them to the rank of collaborator. You are deciding if this person should have the ability to loot every item from our guild bank.
If the post is overly brief then you will want to downvote it and possibly ask more about them.
Here is an example of someone that posted only to gain access to loot the guild bank: http://www.blueskooma.com/forum/m/22417574/viewthread/12464365-hello
If you decide to promote someone, press the thumbs-up Promotion Approval button. When a member reaches positive votes, they will automatically be promoted to the rank of Collaborator on the website. Make sure you promote them in-game manually by right-clicking on their name in the guild roster and selecting “Promote.”
Moderate guild chat & forums
What is not allowed in guild chat.
- Offensive remarks.Racisist, sexisist, homophoic, or transphobic comments are not welcome in guild chat. Warn the member to stop. If they do not stop then you have grounds to dismiss them from the guild with the agreement of another manager. If the initial remark is bad enough then immediately seek the members removal.
- Harassing or bullying another guild member. No member should feel harassed or bullied by another member. This issue extends beyond guild chat, however guild chat is a good indicator of developing issues.
- Political or Religious debate. We all know what happens when religion and politics are brought into the discussion. It doesn’t matter how innocently it starts, it will end in tears. Inform the members that such discussions should take place in private.
What should be discouraged in guild chat. - Spamming the same question, such as requests for help with a dungeon or quest, etc.If you can’t help them directly then make an attempt to find someone that can. Something as simple as “Can anyone help Guildie with that quest?” You will either get someone to help or the member will be satisfied that their request has been listened to. If they persist then let them know that no one can help right now and to try again another time.
- WTS and WTB Spam. The best place for trading items is on the forums or guild store. Direct members there.
- Overly sexual chat or roleplay.Flirting and being suggestive is fine. But when it starts getting seriously sexual that’s when it should be private.
- Management Guild Chat (Officer Chat)Managers should try not to use the BSC Management guild chat for non management discussion. A happy and healthy guild chat is very important to Blue Skooma Co and we don’t want all the managers to be chatting behind closed doors in officer chat.
How to kick someone
Decisions to remove a member will always be final. There should always be a warning before someone is kicked to give them a chance to change their behavior.
To kick a member from the guild a manager should explain the situation to all other managers that are online in the BSC Manager chat. If a consensus is reached then the member is to be removed from the guild. A concise explanation should be posted to the Manager’s Office forum with a list of the managers who were present.
When someone is kicked, they will almost always try to get back in.
