Character Regret: To Respec, or Recreate?

Let me start by saying that I <3 Ebongale as a character. He's trying to be the formal BA of the bunch, and I'm digging how he's interacting with a lot of you guys in-character.

As a build, however... I'm not happy. He was my first real character, and I think I've learned quite a bit about my play-style and what I want to do as an end-gamer. I've been playing him as a sword-and-board, but I'm just not happy with how he's tanking (if anyone wants to disagree, feel free - this is just what I'm seeing from my point of view)

So... i feel like I'm left with two options:

1) Respec, keeping my class as a Templar. I like the Dawn's Wrath skills, and they play well into what I *want* to be, but not into what I am currently.
2) Create a new character and re-weave myself back into the story. I'd become a new class, create a new backstory, persona, etc.

So, I put it to a vote: what do you think you would do in my situation?

BTW: If I decide to recreate, I won't just kill off Ebongale. Maybe I'll let you guys do that. I could have been a traitor all along, and (when caught) you guys decided to publicly execute me.

Makes for good story, at least.

I think you should respec and see how you like it. If you aren't feeling it, then reroll.

I agree with Ri'sari. Respec, first, then reroll.

Always respec first ebon, it's much faster and less of a task then re rolling.

Are you 15 yet? I find having a second weapon swap really opens you up to have two characters in one. For a while I was just sucking butt with my resto staff, and found myself switching to a two hander and raising hell with that for a while, and as I got more skill points to play with, my suffering, full-of-doubt role of 'healer' became a much more viable, and more importantly, more enjoyable, role.

At the same time, gold comes and go pretty easily in this game, and coughing up the change to respec won't really set you back too bad. I say TRY EVERYTHING!

I'm only level 14. And I think the abilities I want will come more with a weapon switch than with a re-roll. I may roll up an alt and level him a bit tonight to see if the "feel" of the character is more to my liking (the class abilities). AND, I'll hit 15 with my main and will make my decision then (or even 20).

There's just so many ways to go about it. As a Templar tank, it might not hurt to have one of your own healing spells on the ready. Stamina for grabbin' dat aggro, magicka for increased survivability because well hell, why wouldn't you? Not sure if that's what you're doing already though.

Give it some time and use the weapon-swap feature to your advantage. You may not even fall into what you "want" until way later on, like how I am currently. Didn't like the feel of archery, 42 levels later I love it. Or alternatively, you could use a skill calculator to make plans for how and when you want to get specific abilities to build Ebongale the way you want him to be.

You get a weapon switch at 15. And sword & shield is a great weapon choice. Are you using bash? Bash is your block friendly friend.

There are over 300 skill points in the game. At level 14 you don't have enough to have made a bad decision yet. Keep slotting points over into the direction you want to move and see where you go.

A good character is a well-balanced character. Eventually you'll want to be able to move some skills around depending on whether you are a) soloing normal quest content, b) tanking for a group, c) doing pvp - and possibly others.

My highest level templar is 46 and in Coldharbor zone now. I focus on being a tank and have put all my level points into health. Ergo, Sigismundo Rimini is not killer dps. I've definitely drifted on my use of skills since I started, and have refined my approaches.

Also, try slotting Nova as an ultimate; the morphs for it make a thing to drop. As a tank Sigismundo picked the one that snares, but Tears in the Rain picked the one that gives allies a better synergy.

Don't regret, don't respec, don't reroll.
