Goblins aren't as stupid as everyone believes them to be. Actually scratch that, most are, but some aren't, specifically speaking the Goblin Shamans. Anyone capable of learning magic, even a goblin, are not stupid, but are labeled such simply due to what they are. Let’s take my own friend Gnarlus for example.

I was beginning my own caravan in the Black Marsh at the and it was only me and a Shadowscale named Rune-Claw. Speaking as an outsider, life in the Black Marsh is extremely difficult, and I am glad Rune-Claw was with me at the beginning, and even more glad when I met Gnarlus. Everything out there is out to kill you, and what isn't trying to kill you is trying to steal your stuff, like Goblins. It was a week into the venture and we were ambushed by a small group of goblins. We dispatched them with ease, but when we came to the last one (the shaman) he stop and apologized. A genuine apology. Grant it, it was out of fear, but what was said did catch Qa'han's ear.

"Sorry, sorry, sorry." it screamed in fear. "We only want stuff, not death. No harm meant, only want stuff, only want food."
Qa'han was curious. They want stuff, they want food. "Then why didn't Goblin simply ask Qa'han for stuff?" he asked

"Scaleback offer stuff. Hah. You say 'no stuff for goblin.' like always, then attack." The goblin spat.

"We should just put it out of it misery and be on our way Rune-Tail." Rune-Claw said, cleaning his flint edged dagger with a cloth. "Goblins don't belong in these waters anyways. To far from hills and caves."

"See, Scaleback attempts to steal Goblin land." The goblin replied, shaking his root like staff as Rune-Claw. "Goblins live here long time like Scalebacks, but now Scalebacks say swamp theirs. Scalebacks greedy!"

Rune-Claw didn't appreciate being insulted by a goblin. With a flash, Rune-Claw was suddenly in the Goblin's face, dagger at his neck. "We're are greedy because we earn our stuff" he hisses "but goblins aren't because they hide in the ground and steal everything."

"Enough Rune-Claw" comes a shout from behind. Rune-Claw's dagger is swiftly disarmed from and he is pulled back by Qa'han. "You heard the goblin, they want stuff, we have stuff."

"You cannot be serious Trades-With-All." Rune-Claw spits. "They are goblins, complete untrustworthy and incapable of reasoning with, not to mention stupid."

"Really?" Qa'han asked, turning to the goblin. "Qa'han doesn't classify any capable of hurling fireballs accurately and at will as stupid. As he recalls, one of those fireballs scrotched your tail."

The goblin (glad to be out of dagger point) bobs his head up and down in agreement. "Yes yes. Gnarlus not stupid. Gnarlus knows many things. Knows many secrets."

Qa'han chuckled. "Argonian sure you do." he says amused. He reachs into his pocket and pulls out a Golden Ring adorned with a emerald from a hidden pouch and tosses it to the goblin. "Tell Qa'han, what value would this have to one of your kind."

Gnarlus cups his hands and catches the ring. He takes in between two long fingers and examines it. After a few moments, the goblin spits on the rings and tosses it into the muds, stomping it beneath his foot. "Worthless." it spits. "As predicted, scaleback try to cheat Gnarlus."

"I told you they were unreasonable. May I kill it now." Rune-Claw hisses, stretching his claw out for his dagger.
Qa'han paid no attention to Rune-Claw and focused on the Goblin. "Why is that ring useless."
"Why?" The goblin spat. "Not magic, useless in combat, fake. Shiny yes, nothing more."
A smile crossed Qa'han's face. The goblin was correct on all accounts. The ring was a fake, and not useful in anyway. He slipped a ring off his off his own claw and hands it to the Goblin. "If Qa'han gives... Gnarlus I recall you calling yourself. If Qa'han gives Gnarlus this ring, will he bring him to his chieftain."

"You cannot be serious." Rune-Claw calls from behind.

Again, he was ignored. Gnarlus quickly takes the second ring and begins examining it much like the first. After a longer examination, he looks at Qa'han with what he assumes is a look of amazement. "You would give such a shiny to Gnarlus?" he asks.

"For safe passage to speak to your chieftain, yes." Qa'han repeated. "Qa'han believes we might be able to work out an agreement that will benefit both of our kinds."

Gnarlus once again bobbed his head up and down, then pointed to a large tree nearby. "Follow Gnarlus. He lead to chieftain Okalon."

Qa'han looked at towards his Guar. "What of our Guar, and our cargo?" he asked.
"Leave them with Durzog." Gnarlus said, with what seemed to be a higher sense of authority then how he acted before. "Gnarlus be sure they stay safe." he then points to the falling sun. "Follow now. Before great fire falls, and large monster come."

Qa'han did question the Goblin and his large monster. He had already proven himself smart enough to earn his trust. He motions the Guar towards the tree indicated by Gnarlus.

"I do not know what you're thinking Rune-Tail." Rune-Claw whispered to Qa'han. "But if you pull off whatever you have planned, I'll give you the name 'Trades-With-Goblins'."
