Background
Origins:
Kish'na Jatani was born in Senechal but was raised mostly on the Topal Sea with Rakhad - her father, Zarabi - her mother and older brother Javak-ra on their ship. Her childhood was a happy one, she loved meeting new people from each port they visited and helping her father manage the ship and her crew. She even began learning basic healing spells from her mother and sword fighting from her father and brother, which she enjoyed the most.
When she was a young girl, life as she knew it was changed forever. Their ship had arrived at port in Senechal to deliver it's latest cargo. Later that evening when Zarabi, Javak-ra and Kish'na were in the cabin preparing for bed, they could hear Rakhad and some others arguing on deck. They thought nothing of it until a group of bandits, thugs and madmen entered the cabin and began setting the ship ablaze.
Many of the crewmembers, being skilled sailors and swordsmen threw themselves at the group in an attempt to quell the invasion. But it was to no avail, the invaders lost a few men but there were too many of them for the sailors. Zarabi hurried Kish'na and Javak-ra to the back of the ship in an attempt to escape but Javak-ra turned back to the invaders and ran toward them, "Yhaaaaa!!!" blade readied. Javak-ra clashed swords with one of the bandits, but there were too many; one of them ran him through the stomach with his blade. Javak-ra fell to the floor bleeding heavily from his wound, he turned to his terrified mother peering from the corner and uttered his final words "Go... sa...save... K...Kish..." and went limp as his life left his body.
In a panic Zarabi grabbed Kish'na and held her close for a moment "You must live my child" she said in a hushed and quivering tone. Kish'na tried to reach out to her mother but froze the moment she could see the brutes coming from a small opening in the cupboard. She watched in horror as the invaders dragged her mother from the corner and cut her down as they had done to her brother.
After believing they had killed everyone aboard the ship, the bandits left the ship ablaze and littered with the dead. Kish'na could not move from the cupboard, in shock from what she had just witnessed. A few moments later the cupboard opens and a familiar Khajiit looked at her for a moment, scooped her up in his arms, she fainted as he carried her from the ship.
Awakening the next morning, Kish'na was quite confused, she was in a different bed.. a different room.. she realized that she was not on the boat anymore, she was inside a cabin. As she sat up from the bed she remembered what had happened and began to cry, the same man who had rescued her was in the doorway with a small wooden tray of moon sugar brittle and a mug of water. It was Zankir, a family friend and her fathers closest companion in their youth.
Years later:
Over the years she had spent with Zankir and his son Nadul, she had grown into a beautiful young Khajiit and a skilled swordswoman. Never forgetting where she came from and what happened to her family, she trained with Nadul to become stronger and more adept in the arts of healing and swordplay, thinking her family would be proud.
Zankir knew that Kish'na had grown into an adult, so he believed it was time to tell her a piece of her story that had been unknown to her. As they strolled along the shoreline, Zankir stopped Kish'na "Kish... about your father... there is something that this one feels you should know..." Zankir paused for a moment " Rakhar was a skooma trader Kish.. that group of... bastards that killed your family were probably trying to collect a debt or intimidate him into handing over more skooma." Kish'na was taken off guard by the news " He.. he was.. no...." She was crushed by the news, she had always looked up to her father, so handsome, strong and fearless.
Over the next few months she became very bitter and angry after Zankir told her of her father's line of work. She found Nadul along the shoreline, and she told Nadul about how the news of her father troubled her. Kish'na spoke of joining a band of people "just like this one" and fantasized about the treasures and glory that awaited her. Nadul knew it was a band idea and tried to pursuade her " Kish, you must not go, this one.. needs you.." Kish'na turned to Nadul and put her hand on his shoulder " You are strong Khajiit, you need no one " she turned to pick up her bag and set off to find what she was looking for. Before she could leave Nadul reached out and embraced Kish'na " Just come back to this one... Nadul... loves.. you " He smiled at Kish'na and placed a piece of moon sugar brittle in her hand " For your journey! " He said nervously with a smile.
Realizing how he felt for her, she promised she would return to him " This one will be back, Nadul. For you" And she set off on her journey. In her naivete she joined a nearby gang of misfits, which was in reality a gang of dangerous bandits. She was only in the gang a few days but was eager to impress and make friends quickly. In an effort to do this she told of her village and how bountiful it was in its food, craft, and gold. The bandits listened with open ears and open eyes, greedy for the gold and riches.
A few days later, Kish'na was heading back to the camp with a bounty of fish and ingredients when she noticed her new clan marching up the beach laughing and raving about their spoils. As they passed her she thought she recognized some of the items they carried. Moments later Kish'na's eyes grow wide as she drops her baggage. " No... no!!" she screamed and runs as fast as she can towards home.
She arrives at the top of the hill overlooking the village to find it ransacked. "What has Kish'na done!!" she says out loud to herself. Kish'na runs to the village looking frantically for Zankir and Nadul. Approaching the cabin she sees Nadul on the ground, she kneels to his side but it is too late, Nadul had died virtually the same way as she had watched her family die a few years before. Distraught she runs to the cabin, hoping to find Zankir. He is in the cabin on the floor sobbing and murmuring about his son, Kish'na runs to him to make sure he is not hurt and begs for forgiveness. "Zankir, this is my fault, please forgive this one!!! She told them of the town, she did not think...they..." She screams and cries out. Zankir knew it was not Kish'na to blame as he knew of the bandits and realized from Kish'na's garbled words that she felt she was responsible. Pulling himself together, he calms Kish'na, explaining that it is not her fault, she had no idea they would do this. Brokenhearted, they begin to clean up the town and bury the dead.
Days go by and Kish'na's heart is heavy, she decides to pack her things and get herself away from Zankir, believing it is the only way to keep him safe. Writing a small note and leaving it on the table, she begins her new journey.
Recently:
Kish'na has lead the past few years of her life alone, moving from town to city by land and sea. She has somewhat come to terms with her past and her failings, as she sees more of the world and how equally good and evil it can be. She has found solace in the hunt and in the worship of her savior, Hircine. Through the hunt she feels as though she is cleansed and free. Living alone is not without it's challenges, she has honed her healing and swordplay skills through many battles and sparring matches. Through her commitment to the hunt and Hircine she has also developed cooking and tailoring skills which enables her to use every part of her prey, as is her spiritual way.
She has met a small group of hunters who are different in many ways, but share the same lust for the hunt, thus she has become part of a hunting guild, to which she has grown very fond of. She seeks to make new friends and find a place she can call home.
While Kish'na Jatani knows her past may be a grim one, but she is a wizened Khajiit and works to carve herself a new path, a brighter path.
