ZOS has released ESO on Steam. Those who buy the Imperial Edition on Steam receive the game 40% less than what original pre-orders did and also get a wolfhound vanity pet as a perk. How do you feel about this? Should ZOS also give the wolfhound pet to existing customers? Or leave it for the people who buy off of Steam? Would you use the Wolfhound pet more than the other vanity pets you received?

yea, it kind of annoys me that I bought the imperial edition at the standard price, pre release. Then they go and change the rewards in it. My mudcrab has never left my mail, didn't really care for it. I would have much rather had the dog. Personally I think if they were to change the package of something like a collectors edition, those who bought into it at full price before the game even released should also get the new pet with it.

I mean.. I'm not gonna go buy another imperial edition just for a dog, So it kinda screws the people who already bought it. Sadly this is the trend in gaming, especially MMOs these days. I hate it, but it's just something we have to deal with I guess

While I'm glad the game is on Steam, and they waited to put it up until it was in a condition that most people would see as release-ready, I still feel like this screws over the players who bought the game first. It would be nice if an MMO would make a collector's edition pack that also included all future additions to the pack, early access to new patches, etc. But at least the Steam community's thirst for sales will be sated with the game being 30 dollars, which is almost like saying "Get two months free" with the subscription.

I've already thrown $100+ for the Imperial Edition in real life, I don't want to have to spend another some odd amount for that dog. The real kick is the fact they ALSO get the Mud Crab pet (whoop-de-do)

I just recently got the game and all that, but I'm not that worried about it. The wolfhound will probably be made available later, or something very close. Plus the fact that pets don't really do much (Aion spoiled me. best kitten pet EVER) and take up precious inventory space diminishes my desire for pets anyway.

They are giving a pet for Quakecon attendees as well. I am sure reskinned versions will become available in the cash shop within a few months.

In response to the pet hound outcry, I read they are adding another pet to all pre-steam accounts that does not stop crying. It's called the Weeping Stone or something like that. Lol. :p

There's going to be a cash shop?

Please say that I am mis-reading.

Please please please say you didn't mean that.

Zenimax has posted that there will be another version of the Wolfhound, a brown one, which players will be able to obtain. They did not specify how players will be able to obtain this one however, and only announced this after the rage thread about it was approximately 17 pages long. Naturally, a lot of people are really pissed about how this was handled, and this knowledge did very little to quell the storm as the brown wolfhound will be available to all players, to include those who get the white one while the white will remain exclusive despite Zenimax's justification of the p2p structure by stating that players will have access to all content.

I want a white wolfhound, I don't want to have to start my account over entirely to get one, but that is not why I'm pissed off about this and those who actually read the rage posts will realize that I'm not alone in this regard. The real reason I'm so pissed off by this is because 1) Zenimax has lied yet again about how I "will have access to all content", which was a big part of their justification for the p2p structure, 2) Dogs were one of the most coveted pets and Zenimax decided that, for marketting reasons, they wanted to draw in new members by offering them a dog and telling all current members that they could not have one. 3) Zenimax has, by actions not words, stated that loyal customers are not rewarded while potential customers are. 4) They tacked the white wolfhound onto a product that I paid full price for while dropping the price. I dont' really care about the price cut so much as tacking on the dog after I've already paid full price, and then telling me that I will never be allowed to get that dog.

I don't want a brown wolf hound, I want a white one. I'm a dog person, and when it comes time to adopt a dog I don't go to the shelter looking for a specific dog, but at the same time I don't adopt a dog that I don't want just because they didn't have one that I did want just so I have a dog. I'm trying to think of a better way to word this, because as it is I sound like a complete a$$, but frankly, between Zenimax and my nephew, my patience levels are far lower then they were even when I was in basic training. As in, my fingernails have been chewed all the way down and I'm actually to the point of chewing on the skin around them. When it comes to most games, I'm easily sated (except when it comes to pvp in eso apparently), but I'm a dog person and Zenimax has flaunted a dog in front of me that I want and then said "too bad, you can't have this one. On a brighter note, you will eventually be able to get a different one, but I'm not going to tell you how or when."

Kindly do not bring real-world politics into this discussion. Many people feel strongly in many directions and baiting them is not appropriate.

As far as Zenimax goes, they've done this before with the 'Adventurer' edition (letting you play any-race in any-alliance). I had to go through some teeth pulling to get it afterwards and it cost me a heaping lot more than it should have. But this is not new behavior from Zenimax.

As far as this fresh content is concerned, yes it seems unethical to me. I am sure it makes more sense from a marketing stand point. They might even get a few people who already own the game to buy it again on steam (some people are like that). More likely, they could easily solve this problem by saying that everyone who already owns the Imperial edition and REGISTERS their game on steam would get the benefit (the white hound) and this would easily fix it.

In fact I am not sure it isn't going to be that way now. I don't like launching from Steam, but I'd log on steam to add the game if it got me a free pet.

Anyway that's what they SHOULD have done. And then kept the editions the same. I don't disagree with knocking off the price, though; it's been long enough, why not do that?

I'm really, really, really scared that Ri'sari mentioned a possible cash shop. This is a game I pay 15 dollars a month for, already. I had better damn well be getting full content. =|
