The Imperial Templar who calls himself Talakai claims to be little more than a simple scholar. Of course, there aren’t many scholars in Tamriel that spend as much time as he does on the battlefield. He is as comfortable in plate armor and he is in scholarly robes. And, his hands are equally suited to the greatsword as they are pen and paper. He is tall and fit though not excessively so. His face is friendly and open with a receding hairline. His eyes are hazel and his hair is a dark blonde. He is often seen as an immediately likable fellow. He has a penchant for addressing the people that he meets as if they were family that put them at ease. He loves cooking and campfires and the swapping of old tales.
No one knows much about Talakai from before the coming of the Planemeld Crisis. He claims to have grown up on the frontier at an Imperial outpost and never seen the Imperial City or the White Tower. When he first showed up in Kynereth’s Roost it is said that his first words, on learning of where he was, were… “Well, this isn’t my home. I don’t think that wasn’t the right portal?” In the short time since then he has come to be recognized as a Master Wizard by the Tamriel Mage’s Guild for his scholarly pursuits and for services rendered. What those services are aren’t mentioned. He also known as a Champion of the Fighter’s Guild… also, for services rendered.
As an Imperial, he feels that he doesn’t really fall under the authority to any of the three alliances battling for control of Tamriel. His has used this freedom to act as a liaison between the Dominion, the Pact and the Covenant where possible. He has dined with nobles and the heads of all three alliances and is known to have done extensive favors for Queen Ayrenn, High King Jorunn and High King Emeric. While far from famous, he has come to be known as the sort of person who will do the right thing regardless of the morality of the matter. He has rooted out corruption and rebellion wherever he finds it. He has been known to stand face-to-face with daedra and undead with little fear. He is also known to have slain both by the hundreds. Talakai is also known to drink and travel with members of the adventuring group called the Undaunted and is known to identify himself as a scholar as often as an adventurer. He is already well travelled and still has a great many things to see. As he says, “I’ve a great deal to catch up on.”
Talakai has a passion for ancient books and ancient lore. He has travelled the breadth of Nirn and, if he is to be believed, Oblivion in search of rare tomes and tombs. He says that he has plans to see everything in Nirn that there is to see. He has bought or been given residences across Tamriel that he uses to keep some of his favorite finds though many of his discoveries are kept in the libraries and vaults of the Mage’s Guild. Part of his passion for learning has translated into becoming a skilled artisan in his own right. His skill at woodworking, blacksmithing and as a clothier has gotten him recognized as a master craftsman with few peers. He modestly claims to only be doing the research of ancient arts of crafting and enchanting though there are several mages at the guild that claim to wield one of his staves.
All of this aside, Talakai never claims to be a saint and is far from righteous. He also enjoys spending time in skooma dens and seedier places with thieves and other unsavory sorts. This has brought him into contact with the Blue Skooma Company. Perhaps its just another of his scholarly pursuits but he has taken to quietly spending time with the ragtag group. He uses the group to, among other things, sell off some of his findings at auction as well as the skooma trade as a source of income for his expeditions.
