Name: Arinil Greenleaf

Age: Around 150.

Race: Bosmer

Flair: Hazel eyes, a full set of antlers which resemble a mer crown, not as thin as other bosmer, a diagonal scar across the right eye, curving tribal tattoos on arms and back (mostly covered when clothed).

Rumors:

"That Bosmer...he's paying for a room, but he doesn't sleep here."

"I bought some skins from that man a'while back, they were the cleanest cut I've ever seen...almost too clean."

"I saw this guy sleeping under a tree on the way home from the market last month, offered him the spare room to sleep in. Next day he was gone, but get this - the man left a fresh elk on my porch. Skinned and quartered clean as two Ayleid wallstones. Fed Alma and I for a fortnight, and I sold the skin alongside my vegetables."

"Hey, remember the jeweler's family? The Khajit that the Thalmor kept shaking down, something about their 'impure race'. Yeah, well, the day after that odd Bosmer came through town they've set up shop again...and those two agents are gone. Not even a bootlace left of 'em."

Background:

Arinil grew into adulthood in a reclusive Bosmeri clan, deep in the recesses of the "uncivilized" Valenwood. Only a rumor even to the rural Bosmer, Arinil's clan revolved around a code more simple and savage than the hierarchy of Elden Root: the code of Predator and Prey. All members of the clan were gifted hunters, using traditional bone-craft bows and spears; however, there existed an inner ring of spiritual leaders born into a warrior-priest caste. These wood elves were considered children of the Wilderking, whom the clan worshipped as the soul of the forest, and were marked as his heirs by their congenital antlers - often growing to resemble a thorny crown. Hence they were pressed into a trial as old as the clan itself, and hence they received their name: the Wilderlings.

While children of the clan were all taught the skills to meld with and live upon the forest, the Wilderlings were pushed even further. They were thought to embody the entirety of the forest itself, as divine inheritance of the Wilderking's legacy, and thus lived the Trial of Balance. These Wilderlings were forced to experience both sides of the savage nature their clan represented: not only the role of a Predator, but also that of their life-sustaining Prey. Alongside the study of tracking, stealth, and the silent kill...the Wilderlings were thrown into the hunt from the opposite side. They were hunted by the youth as they themselves learned to hunt, and thereby gained a different perspective: subtlety from tracking, perception from stealth, and the escape from silent death. Thus did they become the balance of the clan, by experiencing both faces of life and overcoming them to survive. Having such perspective endeared them as wise in the whole ways of the forest, and so they counseled and advised their people.

There are rumors throughout the markets of Valenwood of one unnamed clan which bears a type of witch called a Wilderling; a type of witch who demonstrates enough cunning, perseverance, and mastery over the cycle of life and death to draw the eye of the Lord of the Hunt himself...
