Werewolf Curse
Lycanthropy is a disease/blessing that is associated with the Daedric Prince Hircine, and possible other evil aligned deities.
Werewolves are men and women who can transform into powerful monstrous wolves once a day. Lycanthropy has received mixed criticism by various factions in Skyrim. Some see it as a blessing, a way of drawing on the strength and ferocity of their inner beast. Others see it as a curse, an unnatural violation of nature.
Their appearance is that of a large wolf-like humanoid creature with razor sharp claws and a set of large teeth. They have monstrous faces and muscular builds. Males are slightly taller than females. Their eyes in wolf form are yellow.
There are numerous reports of higher incidence of attacks during full-moons. Reason for this is unknown.
Infection
Lycanthropy is most commonly contracted by the blood. The first transformation through this disease vector is particularly violent.
Blood Ritual
Bite or scratch from an infected transformed Werewolf.
Other lesser known causes.
Inheritance - there are some reports of this.
Lesser causes most likely combined within some kind of ritual.
Enchantment - runic tattooing of a person's body, rare but possible.
Wearing of a dead wolf skin cloak or item.
Ingesting of certain herbs - Belladonna, Nightshade - translation unknown
