White Knight Takes Rook - Checkmate

Two Moons Path, Dune

Dar'Athad Moonstorm moved like a shadow through the narrow labyrinthine corridors of the ancient temple city of dune, constantly looking behind himself. He knew he was being followed by someone.... or something. Using skills of stealth and misdirection, he took the long way to the Temple using blind corners and doubling back when he thought it necessary to catch an assailant that never came. "This one thinks he is loosing his mind, no?" he chuckled to himself, grinning wolfishly at the darkness. No matter where one stood in the Ancient temple city of Dune, one could always see the Temple of the Two moons Path, Looming over the city as both protector of the city and reminder of where true power lay in the Hierarchy of the Khajiit people. This night the clouds blocked out the light of the Jone and Jode casting in the temple in a sinister shadow that made Dar'athad feet was an ill tiding. Looking to the temple's highest spire against the darkness of the sky, he checked where he was in relation to it and plotted out his course accordingly, still running the zig zag pattern of evasion from the assailants he imagined to be lurking in the shadows.

Vaulting over one last wall Dar'athad dropped down into the courtyard silently clinging to the shadows. Looking around he made note of the 4 Temple Guard Acolytes standing nearly shoulder across the great stairway leading up to the upper courtyard. "odd" he mused to himself as he emerged from the shadows and walked directly to them annoucning his presence and business. "This One is Dar'athad Moonstorm, Special Envoy to Sren'ja on behalf of his Eminence The Moon Bishop Hunal, Hollowed be his name. Dar'athad has been summoned personally, this one thinks you should quickly step aside yes?" he said with a wicked grin. At hearing his voice the Guards jumped to attention drawing blades and staring at him cautiously, as he approached announcing his presence. After several tense seconds they eased their stance with the head guard finally responding, "yes, This one has been informed to expect you, please this way" as he gestured for dar'athad to follow him up the stairs. Puffing out his chest and following the head guard, he passed the remaining three growling predatory at them, never breaking that wolfish smile of his.Passing into the Upper Courtyard, Dar'athad noted that Guarding the main entrance to the temple stood two khajiit in plate armour, standing at attention Holding ceremonial greatswords. "Templars" he growled to himself as the hair on his neck rose and as an after-thought, mused silently to himself, "what are they doing here? Perhaps the Bishop has summoned them so that Dar'athad could disband them personally! Dar'athads lips curled back into a vicious smile as they passed the vaunted plate wearing simpletons and made his way into the temple.

The air was cool in here, Moon sugar laced incense hung Cloyingly Heavily in the air mixing with the musty scent of the ancient half decaying temple. Dar'athads eyes adjust to the darkness instantly as he took in the vision of the massive chamber, vaulted ceilings, Half crumbling statues of Senche-Raht in various postures, rows of silk cushions lay arrayed on the floor over thickly woven rugs, Tapestries of richly woven design hung along the walls, as the temple lay strangely silent and empty, like a tomb, save for the presence of the Moon Bishop Hunal sitting in his Chair and his Four Bodyguards arrayed around him on the far end of the temples main chamber on a dais. Dar'athad approached and keeping a respectful distance, prostrated himself before the Bishop. My Lord Bishop Hunal, Favoured of Jone and Jode, Hollowed and honoured spiritual leader of Dune, you have summoned Dar'athad and he has appeared as requested".

Silence hung in the air for many moments before the Moon Bishop Hunal spoke, "This one has heard distressing rumours from Sren'ja, Remind Hunal why you convinced him it was needed he send you again?". Dar'athad lifted his head from the ground and came up to a sit position on his knees with his palms upright. "My Lord, Dar'athad felt it was imperative that the Paladin known as Ser Krynger Battlecat be investigated and brought to justice for betraying his oaths and disgracing the khajiit people and their faith by his actions there". Again several moments passed in silence before the Moon Bishop Responded, "Then why have We not received a report regarding those investigations yet? It has been over a month, perhaps there was nothing to investigate in the first place?"

Dar'athad looked confused, "Dar'athad does not understand, this one compiled an in-depth report and sent it via messenger bird to your grace. Have you not recieved it? Dar"athad has a copy with the remainder of his possessions in Sren'ja if you will just allow...." The moon Bishop cut him off, rising from his seat and shouting, "NO! This one has not received your report! But! What he has recieved is SEVERAL distressing letters and reports from the People of that fair city describing heinous acts you have commited from destruction of property to deathreats to....to... BRUTALIZING a member of the town guard in Horrific ways" he spat out the last part in disgust before continueing, "This one sent you there to as you had put it, save the face and honour of our temple and instead you have made things worse!".

The Assassin, Dar'athad, sat in complete Silence as the Moon Bishop Spoke, panicking internally at what the implications were and what fate may be in store for himself. Once the Bishop was done speaking and silence returned to the temple Dar'athad spoke lowly, "Moon Bishop, The Town of Sren'ja is filled with....", "SILENCE!" bellowed the Bishop, "This one will not hear of your justifications and lies Dar'athad! We have had enough and are considering this matter closed in an attempt to save face and more embarrassment". Dar'athad began to look around the room for a possible exit point, "No!" he thought, this isnt happening! This cant be happening! Those Big Mouthed, Guar dung speaking, Simpleton, backwater, country bumpkins would not be his undoing. The Bishops Guards began to stir as Dar'athads hands began to move back to the hilts of his blades.

Outside Thunder boomed and crashed across the heavens, lighting up the temple briefly as rain began to pour. "Stand down" The Moon Bishop ordered to his men before stepping to the edge of the dais. The Moon Bishop Tapped his Moon Staff Three Times onto the ground before speaking. "Dar'athad Moonstorm, Temple Assassin and hand of the Bishop, in accordance with the ancient laws that govern our order i hereby Absolve you of all your Sins, Furthermore for crimes commited within the Town of Sren'ja you are forgiven by the power invested in me by our newly Formed Dominion and her Majesty Queen Ayrenn, Long may she reign" Dar'athad sat dumbfounded at the words of the Bishop, "Dar'athad thanks you Moon Bishop Hunal and he is humbled by your words and mercy...This one requests he be sent b..." The Bishop cuts him off again with a dismissive wave, "I am not done yet" and taps his staff once more into the dias. "This one, Lord Bishop Hunal, Favoured of Jone and Jode, Hollowed and honoured spiritual leader of Dune, Herby cast you out of the Order and of the temple, stripping you of rank and title, You disgust me and have caused this one a considerable amount of stress and headaches at the mess you have left me to clean up"

Dar'athad felt his blood begin to boil, pure hate welling up from the depths of his very soul. "How Dare you. Dar'athad, has done your will for !0 years! He has sacrificed to much for you to just cast him away" Growling in Defiance He continued, "To Oblivion with you all! You cling to your ancient traditions and archaic notions of Chivalry, Look around Moon Bishop! There is a war out there the likes of which we have never seen. It will take men like Dar'athad to do what is necessary to win the day and not be hindered by these ancient morales"

The Moon Bishop Chuckled and walked back to his chair and sat down, "You make Hunal Laugh! If you think Raping innocent town guards will save us from the forces of Molag Bal, you are deluded and this one grows weary by your presence, leave and never return....Guards!" The Bodyguards sprung to actions, greatswords springing into their hands as they approached dar'athad cautiously, ringing him in steel and fur. Dar'athad drew his blades whirling them around in a figure 8 pattern liek a wall of bladed steel, forcing the guards to keep distance. "I forsake you all! This Temple, These People, And most of all Krynger Battlecat. He has blinded you to the reality of what is going on. You have not seen the last of me" hissing in glee he stopped whirling his blades long enough to quickly draw and shatter a black pepper smoke instantly filling the area in a choking cloud of smoke. The guards lunged forward striking nothing but air and colliding with their brothers intertwining their blades were the assassin had been.

Back outside, Dar'athad dropped off the roof of the temple back into the upper courtyard as the guards at the door ran into the temple at the sound of the shouts and commotions under the cover of the rain as it came down in sheets, battering the ancient cobblestones mercilessly. Chuckling to himself he muttered "Idiots" as his eyes adjusted to the darkness and elements Dar'athad could make out one plate armoured shape standing with sword drawn in the center of the courtyard, almost as if he was waiting for Dar'athad. Drawing his blades again Dar'athad Grinned wolfishly and shouted at the Form, "Well Dar'athad is pleased, there is at least one khajiit who still think like khajiit do!" spinning his blades around before dropping into a combat stance. The Armoured khajit pulled off his warhelm one handed and tossed it onto the ground, letting loose a primal warhowl so loud it shook the cobblestones and rivaled the sound of a thunderclap, forcing dar'athads ears back in pain "Dar'athad Moonstorm, I am Ser Krynger Battlecat! And i will kill you for what you have done to my friends, to countless innocents, and to me"

Spinning His blades around again and changing his stance dar'athad grinned and spoke, "Perhaps you did not hear! Dar'athad has been forgiven for his crimes! Perhaps you have come to mete out your revenge? Dar'athad doesnt think that sounds very much like a paladin..." cackling, He leaps into the air spinning like a tornado of steel at the enraged paladin. Battlecat quickly Swung Heavily at the twirling form of Dar'athad knocking the lighter khajiit out of the air in a burst of sparks as their weapons met. Pressing the advantage Krynger pressed his full weight into attempting to push his sword through dar'athads defenses as dar'athad held kryngers greatsword at bay with his own two swords laying on his back. Dar'athad swept his legs out catching the Paladin by surprise knocking the paladin over as dar'athad lept to his feet chopping downwards at krynger.

Rolling out of the way, As the assassins blades made contact with the ground, Krynger rose to his feet swinging blindly at where Dar'athad had stood only seconds before and bringing his blade up into a defencive posture as he scanned the couryard around him looking for the assassin in the thick sheets of rain that fell. Several Seconds passed and Krynger flattened his ears extending his supernatural sense of hearing, when he heard it, a spot near him that wasnt getting the same amount of pattered rainfall as the others right behind him, he swung at the lack of sound as Dar'athad failed to launched an attack and using his superior agility threw hismelf on the ground to evade the Torso High swing. Krynger Followed through with the attack bringing his Greatsword straight down at hte prone form of Dar'athad, as the agile assassin rolled away. Krygners Greatsword impacting with the ground gauging a hole in the ground from the force of the blow.

Using the distraction caused by the stuck sword, Dar'athad lept up and brought his heel straigh down onto Kryngers head disorientating the Paladin, Causing Krynger to Let go of his Stuck Greatsword and stumble backwards. Trying to move Krynger Away from his Sword Dar'athad begin to execute a Dazzling Display of Twirling Blades threatening Kryngers Flanks forcing the Paladin Further backwards. In a howl of rage, Krynger focused the full weight of his faith into chanting the Prayer of Divine Retribution, thrusting both his hands forward. A Massive Ball of Holy Fire Erupted from his outstretched hands catching the Assassin Offguard, Enveloping Dar'athad Fully In its Fiery Embrace.

The Rain Suddenly stopped as the clouds parted revealing the two moons, and bathing the temple grounds in their holy light. Dar'athad, flailed around on fire screaming in pain and pure hatred, "I will kill you Battlecat!' as he Ignored the pain of being on fire and made one last Lunge at the Paladin. Vaulting forward Dar'athad Jumped bringing both Blades chopping down onto Kryngers shoulders. One Pauldron Deflected the blow but the other found its mark cutting deeply into Kryngers Collarbone. Roaring in Defiance and Pain, Krynger screamed into Dar'athads Melting face, "Not before i kill you", reaching behind himself for the Anceint Silvered Relic Blade Elros has taken from Dar'athad and given to krynger, Drawing it and plunging the blade into Dar'athads side and ripping the blade up and through to Dar'athads chest before it finally got lodged in dar'atahds Ribs as the paladin using his last reserve of strength lifted dar'atahd up by the blow and throwing the assassin to the side. Dar'athad died as his Immolated Corpse impacted the ground with a wet Thump, body still twitching as his body burned and bled out dagger still lodged in the assassins chest.

Walking over to his greatsword and Falling to his knees as feeling left his legs, Krynger Looked up to the two moons who hung sadly in the sky, as his vision begand to shrink and grow blurry, whispered, "thank you for seeing me through this, My oath complete, i can now die" and collapsed on the ground, blood gushing from his wound. Moon Bishop Hunal and his Bodyguards Emerged from the temple in time to see Krygner Collapse. The Guards Rushing over to aid Ser Battlecat. "Leave him!" Shouted the Moon Bishop, "He Died in Service to the Temple, Protecting us from an evil within". The Templar Guards looked over to the Moon Bishop Hunal, "Moon Bishop, This one thinks he can still yet be saved if we just..." with Dismisiive gesture the Moon Biship Hunal Repeated himself, more assertively this time, "He Died in service to the Temple, protecting us from an evil within, what do you not understand?" Bowing their heads in acquiescence, "We Live to serve, Favoured one" as they sadly backed away from the paladin.

Clouds Rolled back into place obscuring the moons until just a small sliver of both could be seen. Two beams of Moonlight illuminating the courtyard, One onto the form of the fallen paladin the other on his holy greatsword. From the heavens, two Sibilant voices just out of sync with one another spoke, "You shall not Fall this day, Ser Krygner Battlecat, Rise now, your work in our name is not complete......" Terrified the Guards dropped to a knee bowing to the divine presence all around them as the Moon Bishop Stood in Shock and Disbeleif as to what was occuring. As if by some invisible divine force both Ser Krynger Battlecat and his Greatsword gently lifted off the ground several feet and hung in the air. Kryngers head rolled backwards lifelessly as his body arched backwards, arms hanging limply to the sides. His Eyes opened Glowing a Bright Bluish White as his mouthed opened shouting intengilby in Agony as the same light poured from his mouth and shooting into the night sky peircing the clouds. His greatsowrd floated over to his outstretched hand, fingers closing around the hilt as his body gently floated back down to the ground, landing in a kneeling postion before the light within him extinguished and collapsed on the ground once more wounds closed and breathing heavily.

Dropping their weapons hte Temple Guards rushed to his side to sit him up as the Moon Bishop Looked on in disbeleif as to what he just saw and heard. Ser Battlecat opened his eyes once again looking around in confusion, "W...W'what happened?" before the Guards could answer the Bishop spoke, "Jone and Jode showed you favour Ser Krynger Battlecat and refused to let you fall this day and i shall follow suit, Rise now.. .Rise as Ser Krygner Battlecat, Hand of the Bishop, and Hollowed of the moon" Krynger Blinked several times at Moon Bishop Hunal before rising and spoke, "I cannot rise as such, I can No longer rise again as a member of this order, if you allow people such a Dar'athad to be amongst it, i cannot. I have learned that i do not have to be part of an order to do good in this world, goodness comes from the heart not from a title or temple" for the second time today Moon Bishop Hunal stood in shock, no ones ever refused him! Who is this upstart to question a thousand years of Tradition, favoured by the moon or not! Krynger Resheathed his Greatsword across his back, and looked around the courtyard eyes finally resting on the charred remains of Dar'athad then back to Hunal, "May Jone and Jode Light and Guide your path Moon Bishop". Bowing to the bishop, he spun on his heel and walked away down the great stairs as the clouds boomed with thunder and it began to rain again drowning out the sound of The Moon Bishop Crying Out in anger at being Denied. Krynger Smiled as he left the Temple Grounds never looking back.
