"Cormount's Arbiter" (Complementary title from Bosmer tribesmen near Cormount)
"One-Eyed People Eater" (An insult from various racists throughout Tamriel)
Age: 65 (a young elf- roughly early 30s in human years)
Race: Bosmer
Physical description: 5'7", 135 lbs. He used to have an olive complexion with dark brown eyes- but his blood curse has paled his skin and reddened his eyes. He has shoulder length brown hair which he pulls back under his hood.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Missing his left eye. Vampire. Wears Breton braids in his hair.
Occupation: He was a renowned Jaqspur of the Dominion army- but deserted after the burning of Cormount. Currently, he is a hunter by day... sneak thief by night.
Family: He is Mara-pledged to a Breton named Sylvis. No surviving blood relatives.
Background:
As a young elf- he was a hunter for his family in Cormount. He eventually gained fame for slaying a rabid Senche tiger with a Kajiiti dagger. Back then, of course, such a dagger looked like a sword in a Bosmer child's hand. He still uses the Kajiiti dagger and senche tiger's gut for his bow's twine and has often refused to replace it with the "prized" Kajiiti gut twine. Eventually as time ebbed on- he grew impatient with the rural life. He moved to Eldenroot to sell his famous "Mephis Mixtures". While collecting alchemical plants, he came across an injured white wolf pup that had been ravaged by beetles. He nursed the wolf back to health and became close companions with it- eventually offering him the name "Dante". By nature, Dante was a skilled hunter and tracker, however, the personality of this wolf could be described as "whimsically unimpressed and usually bored."
After the Dominon offered Mephis and Dante a recruitment as a "scout ranger", he returned to his family to say goodbye. His village offered him a prized Bosmer bow (with senche tiger twine, of course) and an Ancient Elven sword that had been passed through the generations. Though most of his clothing is traditional Bosmer leather- he wears heavy Bosmer gauntlets and eventually a cloth Breton hood (a gift from his wife).
While Mephis fought for the Dominion in Daggerfell, he learned of the razing of Cormount. He quickly deserted the Aldmeri cause and returned to his home city... only to find it in ashes. He secretly found the soldiers (on both sides) responsible and began his own guerrilla warfare against those responsible for the death of his family and friends.
Mephis eventually found himself in a drunken depression after he'd slain most the soldiers that he could find. But, none of this brought him satisfaction. He wandered the wilderness for a fortnight... starving, dehydrated, and mumbling to poor Dante about the injustices of life and war. This caught the attention of a blood-starved, solitary vampire. Mephis was quickly overpowered and drained near death. His last thoughts were "One man's miracle is another man's accident..." When he awoke- he found himself next to his attacker's dismembered corpse. Dante was no longer hungry, either.
His new-found dark powers increased his stealth and hunting prowess- however, in accordance with the Green Pact- he still refuses to transform into a bat. Eventually Mephis and Dante journeyed to Kenarthi's Roost to the city of Mistral. While he was offering potions for raw beef- he heard, what he recalls as "the most angelic voice that called to him from Sithis". There, he met a beautiful Breton named Sylvis. He quickly began to court her and adorn her with the best bone-laden jewelry he could find. He promised her adventure and his uncompromising love. They were Mara-pledged within nine full moons.
As time waxed- they took their adventures throughout all three kingdoms, fought dremora, gods, and humans alike. Dante somehow managed to get himself turned into a scuttler after lapping up a potion that spilled into clansfear blood. Mephis and Sylvis continue to search for a cure for Dante's affliction (while poking fun at him along the way). Their quests have recently lead them to Craglorn- and many adventures beyond...
