Matzi is an average-sized male Bosmer with a wiry, lean, and athletic build. His hair is worn in dreadlocks which are pulled back into a pony-tail (for practical reasons). He looks a bit different than a typical southern Bosmer, as he exhibits physical traits from his people - a group of Bosmer that settled Falkreath in the 1st Era and adapted to the colder climate than their tropical kin in Valenwood.

He typically has a look of peaceful awareness on his face, which occassionally changes to darting eyes that quickly scan his environment and then return to his peaceful gaze. Although quite old for a Bosmer, he does not show his age physically. However, he will occasionally groan or lightly complain about an ache or pain or show visible fatigue more quickly than younger members of his fellow adventurers.

As is typical of his Falkreath Bosmer kin, he has scar-tattoos spanning most of his body. These wounds/flair were are very similar to those worn by the Giants that live North of Falkreath and is believed to be a practiced learned from them long ago when his people migrated to Skyrim. Such scars/markings inflicted during a typical coming-of-age ritual common to his tribe and are born proudly.

Flair: He also has chin, ear, and nose piercing of charred mammoth bone along with two ritualistically inflicted scars in the shape of rings on his left ring finger.

Clothing Style: Growing up in a tribal (and scavenging) environment, Matzi will often wear whatever is the best clothing he can scavenge or make from whatever materials are best at hand. He is often seen wearing clothing reminiscent of "rural" Skyrim style dress but usually a bit more rag-tag and primitive.

Personality
What your character will probably pick up quickly while interacting with Matzi:
Matzi has a very friendly, cheerful spirit and mood to him. He also has a very serene, peaceful look like one might see on a monk who had spent a (human-span) lifetime in meditation and contemplation. Like many from his homeland he enjoys strong drink. He is also somewhat socially awkward and somewhat "rough" in manners and missing more subtle social queues having come from a rural, tribal environment in the forests of Falkreath. However, he is worldly and well-traveled. He is a chef by trade and his current stage in life has been spent traveling Tamriel seeking new and exotic recipes to further master and perfect his craft. Due to his age and experience, he may not seem to take things as seriously as others might, but that is just because of his long-term perspective and life experiences have taught him a cheerful, playful, inner peace. However, at times, in moments of deep reflection, he may seem melancholy as if he has lost something very dear to him.

What your character won't know, but is interesting OOC knowledge unless Matzi gets to know your character well:

Matzi's life could be broken down into 3 main stages:

1. Birth - death of first spouse:
This time was spent in fairly blissful life living in the old ways of his people, learning to hunt, scavenge, and commune with the forest - to hunt prey - and hide from potential enemies. Also, he carried on his tribe's ancient trade relations with the Giant clans to the north. All this came to an end when his spouse died in an unfortunate landslide while out scouting. This loss devastated Matzi and he left his home to seek a new beginning where he found himself in The Reach.

2. Time in the Reach
Upon arriving in the Reach, he hired himself out as a hunter and general laborer. Eventually he met up with a traveling group of Reachmen guards that needed a scout. During this time, he befriended the group's chef/cook and took an interest in the trade. Upon completion of the chef's contract, Matzi joined him returning to Markarth where he studied as a Sous Chef and learned many Breton, Reachman, and Nord recipes. Eventually his mentor moved away as Matzi hired himself out to another Patrol party of Reachmen as their cook. At this time the Reachmen were taking the Imperial throne and Matzi saw his fair share of battle - that is when the battle required even the cook to fight. In time, he fell in love with and married a Reachmen female and they agreed to return to his home and build a life together. However, when the LongHouse Emperors decided to invade High Rock, his spouse was asked to fight for her people.... Thought it broke her heart and his....her loyalty to her people was too strong and she left him in the night....off to defend her homeland. He was never to see her again.....although for a few years he searched, her fellows claimed her to have been missing in battle and presumed dead.....

3. Crisis, Enlightenment, and Continuation
This second loss of a loved one sent Matzi into a deep sadness and a crisis looking for meaning. He eventually renounced wordly things and journeyed to High Hrothgar to see if the Grey Beards could share their wisdom with him. They were indifferent and dismissive to him for a long time, but in their hospitality allowed him a bed in their monastery and freedom to meditate in the chambers and on the mountainside. In time, he became the default cook and provisioner for the monastery, journeying up and down the mountain to bring required supplies - though the Grey Beards paid him little attention and meerly seemed to tolerate his presence.

Over the decades, in meditation and service, Matzi came to understand that his losses, joys, victories, and tragedies were all part of a natural flow of things. He came to understand that the purpose of life is neither to become entranced by the joys of life, neither to withdraw from it as the monks had. He came to realize his own path, the path of joyous experience of the world, tempered with the understanding that things are temporary, but part of a natural order that must be respected.

With this realization, he gave his leave of the monastery, and began to travel Tamriel in pursuit of his long-abandoned love of creating new, creative, and delightful meals. To learn, to share food with others, to experience the joys of life, to help those in need, and to flow with the winds of life - that is a worthy existence.
