So, here's my thoughts. We've been adding too many things we want to do, try to do, everything else. We want to do all these things. Make an RP school, bring in lots of people to the auction to make money, improve our attendance...all of those things. All of those things are awesome, but how I've began to see is that, with some of these things, we're moving away from what makes an RP guild successful. We're doing too many things, and not focusing enough in one area.
Kill the RP school and other WIP projects. Hell, kill these weekly meetings and just hold what is necessary. Simplify. Enact a much more strict chain of command policy, wherein you only have people who you trust in power, all of which are under the mindset that they have been given those positions because they love the guild and want to act behind the scenes to continue to improve it. If you need someone to do something, if they don't have a damn good excuse to do the work that is fairly shared to them, then they will face the consequences, and leniency can't be in great amount. We don't need someone who is giving us back nothing. They're welcome to continue on and enjoy the guild as a member.
Increase focus on what we are, an RP guild. Get back to factions, maybe. Malyne and I have a whole WIP training regiment with the guards. Start a group of scholars who give trivia, and to that, award and punishment with questions about IC lore concerning the Dominion, the war, the races, the war, etc. Have us act as a dynamic town/clan and interact with others around us, executing trade and interest with those such as the SCC, TME, Bramblescar Clan. Other ideas to be able to actively involve all members, new and old (I'll brainstorm more here).
Finally, just from other experience and looking to other guilds, a lot of people apply and start to become involved, but more often than not, many leave due to lack of interest or other personal reasons. This is inevitable. If we can somehow make incentive for being around longer (which would be a hell of a lot easier if we had rank structure outside of just the Guard), then people could amass power over time ICly. This might be possible with a clan.
The Guard pulls people in, but now, we need something for everyone.
Last night, I think had great success running the event on my own. The training even pulled everyone who was attendance into the activity, got them all equally involved, and the addition of trivia and useful combat knowledge held everyone’s attention. More events like this will really bring people together.
