Worn leather boots padded across the low ferns and roots as Fedris clamored through town. His red dunmeri eyes jumped from face to face in the crowded streets, searching. Bumping into sever unfortunate villagers and laborers, he spun to and fro as if a leaf caught up in a heavy breeze. Debris from the battle with the Pact still scattered the ground, groups of bosmer worked diligently to clean the mess. Coming to a sudden halt just before a moss covered rock ridge on the edge of town, his eyes landed on her.
Before him, lazily slunk against a thick tree root was a very irritated looking Hloriella. Even in the evening light, her dunmer features were unmistakeable.
“Hl-loriella?!” Brows raised in anticipation, Fedris held his breath.
“What?’ Turning her head, meeting his gaze with an unamused, then horrified glare. “Who in Oblivion-” Before she could finish her sentence, she found herself wrapped in his titanic embrace. Lifted off the ground, her ruby eyes widened with terror. “Let-let go of me dunmer!” She hissed as her chest compressed under the force of his hug.
“Oh Hloriella! I’m so glad you're not dead!” For a moment, he ignored her comments, squirming, and hissing before finally relaxing his embrace. Held by her shoulders, with an elated wide eyed grin, he looked into her eyes. Hloriella then spit directly into his face.
“Oh...gross!” Dropping her, he wiped his face with his hands. “What did you do that for?”
Steaming with a growing rage, Hloriella clamored to her feet. Every hair on her body stood on end as she raised her fists. In an angry sneer, she spat out to him. “W-who -are- you, and -how- do you know my name? Tell me before I claw your eyes out!”
Fedris just stood there, looking at her starkly before a ridiculous smile appeared on his face. Before he could open his mouth to speak again, she decked him square in the jaw.
Flinching in a winced grin, he reached up to cradle his mouth, “Ahh...ok, ok! Calm down! Man, you sure are full of piss aren't up?” Shaking his head, his long braid wiggled. “I’m your brother! Well, half brother. Ow...”
“I don’t have a brother.” Hloriella looked puzzled at the large dunmer, her aggressive stance unmoved.
“Sure you do, me! Hloriella, of house Hlaalu…” As he spoke, her arms lowered, anxiety and confusion rushing through her face. “Your father was a Bosmer...yes?” Leaning gently closer to her, his braid draped over his shoulder, his hands rested behind his back. A calm smile laced across his face.
“...how do you know this?” Furrowing her brow, her attention now completely fixated.
In a heavy sigh, he shakes his head again, stroking his bread. “What? I already told you, I’m your brother. My father, Gerrvir Timberscrub, he was that bosmer.”
“Oh? And do we have proof of this?” Scowling, her eyes locked intensely with his.
“I, uh, actually, I do.” Giving a nod, he reaches into his leather satchel to retrieve a carefully wrapped stack of papers. Presenting them carefully to her, he smiles. “Here, look at these. Just, just be careful with them.”
Picking the stack up, her eyes dart across the words.Silently, she stood reading the worn papers with an increasingly distressed expression. “What...what are these?”
“Letters. Love letters from your mother.” Fedris’s tone grew soft.
Sinking onto her knees, she continued to obsessively read over the papers. “Is...is this some kind of sick joke?”
“No joke, dad’s kept them for years. Your mother always sent updates about you and her. I guess I know more about you then you do me!” Setting down onto one knee, his hand patted her on the head before pulling a twig out of her hair. Bringing the twig up to eye level, he smirked. “I see your hair likes the woods too.”
“Shut up. If this is true, where is he? Where is this, this Gerrvir Timberscrub? Why isn’t our father here then?!” Raising her voice in a snarl, a wave of fresh anger stuck her.
Sullenly, Fedris looked to the moss covered land. Brows curled in distress, he spoke. “Dead. He is dead Hloriella. It’s just us now.”
“dead?” She gulped before continuing. “Us?” Folding her arms, she stomped her foot like a child. “I don’t even know you! You come all this way just to tell me he’s dead?! Go, go back to wherever you crawled out from.” Turning her back to him, her nose sniffled as tears started to form in her sanguine eyes, throwing the letters to the ground in a huff. “Take your damn letters with you.”
“Gah! Careful with those!” Clutching his head, the poor dunmer scampered to collect the now loose pages. Stacking them neatly back into a careful stack, he grabbed her shoulders, spinning her around. His eyes full of tears. “Why, why did you do that?! Do you have any idea what I had to do to get here?!”
Gasping, he began to shake her before pulling her into another embrace. “He...he died looking for you. I’m not leaving you. Your, your the only family I have now.” Tears began to fall down his cheek. “I heard about the bandits. About what happened. I couldn’t...I couldn’t let…” Grabbing at her head, he sobbed.
“I-” Hloriella finally relented her struggle and sank into his hug, her cheek pressed against his chest. “Alright...alright...I’m sorry. What is your name?”
“Fredris Timberscrub. Your a Timberscrub, Hloriella.” He rubbed the top of her head before releasing her.
Breathing out with a sigh, “Well Fredris...I’m a guard now, so if you could keep that bandit nonsense buried…like forever...that would be nice. Also, there are a few things we should probably talk about...”
