Occupation: Scholar working for the mages guild. Specializes in Dwemer culture/society. Also has done a bit of work on other ancient cultures and races.
Skills: High intellect. Has a bit of knowledge on casting destruction spells and Restoration spells. Has learnt so much about Dwemer technology he can revive lesser, deactivated Dwemer Automatons (small things such as Dwarven spiders etc. Can’t build them from scratch only fix broken ones that are still in fairly good condition).
Weaknesses: Not very brave, doesn’t know how to fight well, over-analyzes things. Not the best at social situations, also gets too caught up with his research sometimes.
Personality: Lives-in-Books (or Books for short) is an extremely smart, shy and imaginative Argonian who has had a fascination in Dwemer civilization ever since he was little. He is terrible in social situations, being extremely awkward and uncomfortable unless the conversation involves his work or anything to do with the ancient races of Tamriel. In which case he seems to forget about his shyness. Books is almost always reading or studying texts of ancient races, not only the Dwemer but ones such as the Snow Elves, the ancient people of the Dragon Cults and even the few Akiviri that settled on Tamriel. He is a friendly Argonian and is always trying to avoid conflict if possible.
Flairs: Books is an albino and thus, he has very pale scales and is sensitive to the sun. His eyesight isn’t the best but it’s not too bad.
Background: Books grew up in Skyrim in The Reach where he was surrounded by the remnants of the once great race of the Dwemer. It was more than likely that this was what sparked his fascination with their people. He was born in a small town just near Markarth, and would often go to the city to simply see the architecture. Over time he began to look more and more into the race of the Dwemer and decided at an early age that this is what he wanted to do for a living. When he reached the age of 18 he was accepted into the mages guild on account of his promising knowledge of the Dwemer. He began to travel around Skyrim with a group of other scholars and mages to conduct research on ancient ruins and structures. It was on these travels that he also found an interest in other ancient civilizations after finding one of the incredible Word Walls of the Dragon cult. In his spare time he began reading about these civilizations aswell as the Dwemer, often becoming completely absorbed into his books- which is where he earned his name ‘Lives-in-Books’. His research led him all around Tamriel, most commonly Morrowind where he made many significant discoveries. His most significant discovery however, was made in a small Dwemer ruin in the Rift. Books lead a team of 6 mercenaries and 8 mages who were following up on a lead to a Dwemer library. After months of hunting they finally found it. Many of the books were destroyed over the ages- but it was one book aswell as a strange set of bones left in the ruin that was important. The disappearance of the Dwemer meant that none of their remains should be left on Nirn. Knowing this, Books ordered the extraction of the bones and the translation of the Book. After a lengthy 2 weeks Books translated the text- one that detailed the enslavement of the Snow Elves and what they became- and the bones were those of the very same race described in said book. It was this discovery that finally added concrete evidence to the Myths of the race of the Falmer. Books’ leads eventually and oddly led him to the forests of Valenwood. An extremely uncommon and unlikely location for Dwemer. But Books would not forgive himself if the lead turned out to be true, and thus his travels have finally landed him in the town of Vulkwasten, where he hopes to make another great discovery.
