[this is a transcript of ra'shada the scarred's first hand account of the knahaten flu from the sugar claw clan guild event on 10/27/2015]

Ra'Shada looked around the room with his one ice-blue eye, regarding each khajiit in turn for a moment before moving onto the next. The Old Cathay-raht Desert Raider chuckled to himself with a certain level of bemusement at seeing so many khajiit in one place at one time. it brought back distant memories of earlier days to the old khajit. he cleared his throat he spoke up, his gravelly voice commanding the attention of all in the room, "There was a time, Shada thinks, when one could not count so many khajiit at one time in one place such as this. It warms his heart to see those days are long past."

The old Desert Raider looked around the room once more to see he had the attention of those within the well decorated, warm hearth room of the tavern before speaking again, "Gather around Ja'khajiit and listen to this ones tale of dark days long since past and a hopeful future yes?". Shada gestured for those further away to draw closer, slowly with an outstretched paw beckoning to them. "This one was once a Chieftain of a proud tribe from the No-Quin-Al desert. His people roamed the wasteland from Orcrest in the summer to the magnificent temple city of dune in the winter."

Shada grinned wolfishly remembering those days, "We Hunted, We foraged, We raided when was necessary, taking only what we must and giving thanks to jone and jode for the bounty of the land, To S'rendarr for showing mercy on us and to the Lord of the Hunt for plentiful game." gesturing to the skies beyond the tavern walls respectfully dipping his head. The cathay-raht looked to the group after a moment and continued his story, "Shadas people lived a happy nomadic life, among the dunes of the wasteland, never wanting for much, We lived, we loved and we prospered beneath the gaze of jone and jode. Until one day we did no longer."

The Old khajiit looked down, his scarred face contorting into a visage of sadness, as if suddenly struck by melancholy, "Shada heard It began in Palatine in the city of Senchal far to the south. In a place called the Black Keirgo Slums on Sweet Street. At first khajiit thought it merely a bad batch of skooma but then it began to spread." Gesturing sweepingly across the room for effect, "Next it was reported in the Docks of Alabaster, Then... Torval, Corinthe, Orcrest, and even mighty Dune itself. This terrible thing had spread to the four corners of Ancient Anaquina and Palatine. Seemingly borne on the winds of khenarthis herself.

Ra'Shada looked up to gaze on the crowd once more, his ice blue eye squinting in the low firelight of the tavern, "Shada noticed in some of his tribe It began as a chill through the body, a strange lethargy which is not a usual thing to khajiit who are always so full of energy." gestured to the bridge of his neck with a splayed claw, "A ruby necklace of strange red welts and a rash around the neck would appear, followed by a retching coughing fit and full body chills. As of the welts were choking the life out of khajiit" He gestured to his eye next, "Then came the tears of blood, they would ooze from khajiits eyes, staining the fur, as if they knew the death of cats on nirn had come and our time in this place had finally ended. Death was not far off once the tears began."

The Old Raider chuckled, "But we khajiit are clever yes? Clan Mother Mizaba-ko of Corinthe discovered how it spread from khajiit to khajiit, Rathumi-la Dawnwhisker, A daughter of Azurah from Rivenhold made a sorghum tea that eased the worst of the symptoms." he shrugged, "But regardless it seemed to Shada it was not enough and that death was everywhere, in every tent, in every corner and in every cough."

Ra'shada splayed wide his claws, regarding their keen edge in kind, "Charlatans looking to make a quick coin made-up cures to sell to the desperate, things made from all manner of strange ingredients such as Clanfear Claws and the like. if the flu did not take their life then Shada did" shooking his head slowly, "Shada ordered the afflicted be made as comfortable as possible in a great tent before leaving them and driving his people into the deep desert where he thought they would be safe from the sickness. He brought them to a sacred place the ancient Temple of the Al'Athriit, hidden in the deep deserts of the No-Quin-Al. gestured with both paws flatly to the ground at his feet, "The temple had everything we needed to sit out this terrible plague: A source of water below ground, cave moss that grew in the deep passageways of the ruined temple and game came from far and wide to graze on the oasis above."

The Old Khajiit shook his head slowly, "but it was not meant to be, It seemed everywhere khajiit were dying, by the litter, family, pride, and tribe. It seemed to Shada the flu had finally come for this ones. The Flu took a hold of my beloved shortly after she gave birth to what was to be my last born son, Krynn-ja." growled lowly, "I ordered our moon shaman to speak to the gods and make any pact with any who would listen and in her moon-sugar fueled visions foretold of a dire end unless measures were taken. She said in the deep places of the ruined halls of the temple she heard Lorkhaj growl hungrily and that we should flee to a place he could not touch us"

The Old Desert Raider gestured almost violently to the north with a sweep of his clawed paw, "I took what was left of my People and drove north, to pass beyond the borders of Elsweyr, away from Ancient Anaquina to the mountains of Skryim. Shada balled his outspread clawed paw into a fist as he continued "I ordered my warriors to kill any who came near our caravan for fear of the Flu. We cut a bloody swathe across the desert sands, spilling the blood of men and mer alike as we fled" regaining his composure, brushing his tunic off and straightening the creases in it before continuing, "It seems S'rendarr had a sense of humour and in his mercy sent aid to all of khajiit-kind from the most unlikely source."

Shada once more gestured sweepingly and dramatically with a small about of theatrics, "From across the western waves they came. The pointy ears of Sommerset, The Altmer, bringing healers, supplies and something shada had lost in the mountains of skyrim - Hope." cleared his throat, placing a paw to his chest and massaging it in a slow circle to work out the imagined blockage, "With their help and what khajiit already knew turned back the tide of the flu, but we khajiit are a suspicious people are we not? we wondered what the altmer wished of us in return for this kindness" He chuckled and shook his head slowly, "In return for their aid, they wished for us to help them when war came to Tamriel, they alone could not fend off the invaders from the north and east and needed khajiit claws and cleverness to aid them. The chieftains, Moon-Bishops and Mane agreed and thus the dominion was born in full"

The catahy-raht stopped chuckling and looked to all in the room, "But shada wonders if the Altmer didnt save us from one tragedy to only put us into another? but what does this khajiit know. he is just an old cat who has seen to much." yawning dramatically, revealing his sharp khajiit teeth and canines glistening in the firelight. Stretching his powerful arms out, murmuring lowly "but the hour grows late and his moon-sugared rum mug grows empty. Shada will leave you know with this to think about, yes? Sala'kha'jay ja'fith-khaj ja'khajiit" Suddenly feeling very old, and tired, put his empty mug on the table and limped slowly to his room upstairs in the tavern. his mind awash with painful memories.
