Physical Description

Lotherin is a tall Altmer with a lean, firm muscular build. His eyes are green. His hair is long and white. He usually wears his hair pulled back in some manner, to keep it out of his face. He has a closely trimmed beard and moustache. His skin is not quite as gold as many Altmer. It’s almost closer to the flesh tone of the Bretons or Nord.

Personality

The example of his father (more about this later) shaped Lotherin’s own personality and habits significantly. He is inclined to remain quiet and observe those around him before he speaks. Once comfortable enough in a situation to share his thoughts, he does so with few, carefully chosen words. He has a passion for knowledge and the acquisition thereof. Particularly magical knowledge. He is a highly skilled Enchanter and is more than happy to provide his services to others. He feels he is competent and confident, although his wife Ysobyll might say he is sometimes arrogant. He doesn't see himself as such.

Likes:

- Magical studies
- Travel and exploration
- Music
- Juggling. But only in private, to amuse himself and his wife.
- Good wine, but not to excess.
- Cats, and a few other pets. But he is most fond of cats.
- A good horse. He enjoys riding, particularly through a forest.
- His wife and the home they share. These are his sanctuary.

Dislikes:

- Injustice
- Stupidity
- Individuals with an inflated sense of entitlement, who believe they deserve more than they are willing to achieve through their own efforts.
- Deserts and wastelands. He is much happier in green surroundings.

Weaknesses:

- Overconfidence can sometimes lead to less than ideal situations. To borrow from a well-known movie… his ego is writing checks his body can’t cash.
- Sometimes his thought process is too linear and focused on one thing, when he should step back and take in a broader perspective before making a decision.

Background

Lotherin grew up in Shimmerene, on Summerset Isle. He was raised by his scholarly father after his mother died when he was very young. He can recall very little of his mother. He and his father lived a solitary, secluded life after the passing of his mother. Her death had a tremendous impact on Lotherin’s father, transforming him from an outgoing, confident Mer to an emotionally withdrawn shadow of himself. He escaped into his studies, often not realizing that he hadn’t yet fed his young son until he himself felt the relentless pangs of hunger. As a result, Lotherin learned to do much of the domestic necessities on his own. While he doesn’t necessarily enjoy cooking, he is fairly good at it.

Regarding his relationship with Ysobyll… While their marriage was borne of a politically expedient arrangement between their families, it has proven to be good for them both. They have grown to a level of closeness and trust that many couples never achieve in decades of marriage. There is nothing he would not do for her and no length to which he would not go to ensure her happiness and well-being. Most often, the only time anyone will see Lotherin display anger is when someone has harmed or slighted Ysobyll in some manner. Fortunately, those circumstances are rare.
