Kashya is a muscular, long-haired Altmer of tall stature and thick build. Possessing a pair of bright, orange eyes and blonde hair dyed brown, the most noticeable trait about the mer is limited to the variety of scars around her face and body. Among these, the most evident marking is the jagged gash running down her cheek. Otherwise, Kashya possesses several smaller marks around her shoulders, torso, collarbone, and legs. The most notable disfigurement on her body itself is a large post-burn scar on the front of her torso, trailing up and over her left shoulder.
Mild questioning would reveal that Kashya Vulano is the former Marshal of the Vulkwasten Town Guard, and current Captain of the Shattered Grove Guard.. There are constant rumors regarding her sanity and acknowledgements that she tends to talk to herself in an erratic manner when she finds herself alone, though her two month long pilgrimage outside of Vulkwasten seems to have resolved this ailment. Kashya has been accused of lycanthropy in the past.
Oftentimes, Kashya is best described as sporadic in nature, and relatively unpredictable. Although the mer has been known to make her ideals very known in the past, this has been largely remedied; as of recent, Kashya has taken up a largely inquisitive and observational nature due to a series of events that have caused her to question her own mentality and nature. Still yet, her exact disposition remains ever-changing and unforeseeable.
Although Kashya is very skilled in the practice of theft, she no longer has a desire to actively participate in criminal activity.
Likes -
Oranges - A few of these fruits can usually always be found in her satchel.
Reading/Writing - Kashya has an affinity for written word; she keeps a collection of her own writings in her satchel.
Dislikes -
Discrimination - Unjustified racial or behavioral bias is one of Kashya's largest pet peeves.
Fish - Observed but unexplained.
Social Persistence - Kashya's sociability is not wonderful; insistent questions or acknowledgements are easy methods of frustration.
Originally born in Skywatch, Kashya travelled to the Valenwood after convincing her siblings to accompany her on a scenic trip. After running into a lycanthropic cult, which resulted in the death of her brother Narkses, Kashya was too ashamed to return to Skywatch. This would ultimately lead her to fight in the Three Banners War, and later seek residence in the Valenwood itself.
Past Life
Born on the sixth of Evening Star, Kashya was raised in Skywatch by the careful eye of Loneno and Milanah Vulano: An enthusiastic ship-hand and extroverted writer, respectively. Kashya, being the youngest of four, was originally thought to be the only surviving child of the Vulano line. This has been disproved, however, in the years following her arrival in Vulkwasten.
In early years, Kashya was a natural explorer. Bound by the vivid colors of Auridon's forests and unspoken landscapes, Kashya quickly grew an unwavering fondness for her exploratory ways, allowing her desire to take hold as she risked both life and sanity for the simple joy of seeing new places. This would prove true at the young age of eight, following a stunt the mer had pulled in her desire to see the fabled mainland of Tamriel.
Upon her hearing of this questionable "mainland" from her father, Kashya's ways took hold as she stowed herself away on the next ship bound for Grahtwood. Eager at the thought of "land beyond the water," the young mer had decided that she would take the ship to Grahtwood and explore the coasts, only to return weeks later with bountiful stories. With an undying sense of accomplishment, the Altmer had successfully hidden herself on the ship bound for Grahtwood as it sailed into port a week later. Ignorant to the thought of sustenance, however, the mer would soon realize she hadn't packed any food or water for the trip.
This plan would ultimately backfire when her father, who was coincidentally on-board for work, would find her sneaking bread from the galley.
Unable to turn back for Skywatch, Loneno allowed Kashya to stay in his quarters while they sailed to Grahtwood. Providing minuscule labor while on the ship, Kashya would finally be rewarded as the ship pulled into an anonymous port on the coast of the Valenwood. Remaining there for a week, the young Altmer would be allowed to explore the beaches and wilds under the close supervision of her father.
In adolescence, Kashya had reverted to somewhat mischievous mannerisms. Despite being very studious and inquisitive in terms of philosophy, the Altmer had become a thief at heart. Stealing small things without being noticed was always an assured way to raise the reactions of others, which progressively piqued her interest. Despite this, the young womer still held an inborn fascination with the wilds of Auridon, and would take longer treks as her age grew, even going so far as to the Western coast of Auridon.
At the approximate age of fifteen, however, Kashya would be attacked by a rambling Bosmer on one of her trips around Auridon. Equipped with a rather rusty, old dagger, the Bosmer chased Kashya through the fields to the point of exhaustion. Fueled by nothing but a mix of anger and fear, the Altmer would use a fallen branch to keep the mer at bay until a successful jab would temporarily blind him. Using the uncoordinated attack to her advantage, Kashya attempted to steal the dagger from the Bosmer. Although this would eventually prove successful as well, it was not without consequence; the long, jagged scar that is imprinted on her cheek is a result of the Bosmer's wild swings from the attempt to keep Kashya at bay. After managing to rip the dagger from the Bosmer's hand, the young Altmer would stab the Bosmer to death and progressively eviscerate him, only to hang his appendages on tree branches around Auridon.
Following the horrific and likely unnecessary event, Kashya would grow relatively quiet in personality, refusing to open up with anyone aside from her mother, who had been generally open-minded and supportive of the ordeal.
By early adulthood, Kashya has become a regular at the Tavern in Skywatch. Regularly ordering drinks, Kashya turned to writing as a way to cope with the bounty of stories running throughout her mind. By day, Kashya would regularly explore the forests around Skywatch; by night, she would write. Exploration would take its toll once more, however, when Kashya chartered a ship for Grahtwood, taking her three siblings along with her.
Docking in Velyn Harbor, the group set off into the wilds of the Valenwood with no particular goal in mind. With little in the way of defense, however, the four would prove easy targets after being stumbled upon by a cult devoted to Hircine. Equipped with nothing but steel blades, the group fought off the lycanthropes until Narkses and Renma, Kashya's brothers, were killed at the hands of werewolves. Losing her stability, Lilinunta fled the scene, leaving only Kashya to fend for herself. After a few more moments of keeping lycanthropes at bay, the werewolves quickly lost interest and started after Lilinunta. It was around this time that Kashya would unknowingly contract lycanthropy.
Much like the incident with the Bosmer, Kashya slowly began to lose her mind once more as she eviscerated one of the corpses of the lycanthropes, hanging the thing's entrails over her shoulders and carrying the head around for hours before discovering the source of the anonymous cult. Dropping the entrails and head near the site, she proceeded to punt the head into the camp and hobble off to the nearest town.
It would be days before Kashya stumbled upon a settlement at the Baandari trading post. Bloody, and suffering from evident exhaustion, the mer found hospitality in a roaming suthay Khajiit who offered her aid. In return, the Altmer would promise to work and provide any possible aid to the female Khajiit, if necessary. Only a day after her initial rest, Kashya would find herself hunting for the trader with a makeshift bow and a quiver of simple, wooden arrows with rusted tips. Although unable to do much with a blade, Kashya had proven rather resourceful with a bow. After an ill-recalled exchange of words, the Altmer started for Cyrodiil in an effort to fight under the Aldmeri Dominion.
Little is recorded of Kashya's life as a Dominion Scout; after a year of service, the mer left her post to take up a life of burglary.
Intending to spend the remainder of her live in the profession of theft, Kashya sailed back to Auridon and began to work as an independent "collector," eager to take contracts that required stealing from the nobles around the island. Her successful reign of theft would prove bountiful, with only three notable failures during her work.
Eventually returning to Grahtwood, the mer would continue her streak of theft until arriving at the small town of Vulkwasten. Originally given a contract for the theft of a wealthy nobleman, Kashya soon found herself struck with confusion at the sight of the small town. Having been led on a false contract, the mer chose to settle in the town for a few days before returning to Auridon. After these few days, however, the mer eventually found herself inhabiting the small town with a newfound desire to help the community.
Arriving in Vulkwasten
Kashya arrived in Vulkwasten by horse, trailed only by her ever-persistent career in burglary and general theft. Following a contract assigned by some anonymous client, Kashya had been assigned to clear a house of certain valuables. Arriving in the tavern, she quickly began to adjust after ordering a drink. Soon thereafter, Kashya abruptly tossed the contract and began to meet the townspeople. Although it would be weeks before Kashya ceased thieving and joined the town guard, she had immediately vowed to rule out any kind of theft in town. This would be largely due to Kashya's perplexing morals, in which she felt that stealing was appropriate, with the exception of stealing from the "clean-hearted" and financially needy.
After a series of events, Kashya becomes an inhabitant near the town and joins the Town Guard. From there, she would gain the questionable trust and friendship of many before her promotion to Marshall, one month afterwards. This decision would be met with extremely evident disapproval by some, and overwhelming approval by others. She would go through a period of reflection prior to her promotion, however, resulting in a temporary absence from the town itself. During this absence, she had been visited by her father, Loneno, outside of town; the two sailed back to Skywatch, where he began an in-depth explanation on the origin and applications of magick. After a few days, Kashya had learned enough to cast a very primitive ignition spell. Perhaps to Loneno's disappointment, however, she would not continue studying the application of magick until many months later.
Over the course of time, Kashya would return to Vulkwasten, where she would be promoted to Marshal following these events. She would uphold this position next to Marshal Thorn Con, who was simultaneously chosen as Marshal in the listing of the Town Guard. This would remain following the trip to Willowgrove. Led by the Magister of the Vulkwasten chapter of the Mages Guild, Kashya traversed through Reaper's March to reach the small town of Willowgrove. Although she would express persistent indecisiveness on the situation, Kashya would use this time to further her practice with the application of magicka.
Soon abandoning the application of magicka, however, Kashya would provide aid in fighting off a bounty of atronachs, who had found residence near town. Fighting off these conjurations in an effort to allow the Magister of the chapter time to dispel the ultimate conflict, Kashya was wounded after being hit by a gout of fire from a flame atronach. As a result, the mer now possesses a large burn scar on the front of her left torso and shoulder.
Returning to Vulkwasten shortly after the incident, Kashya would remain Marshal until a series of fits would cause her mental instability, a condition in which she blames Sheogorath for but remains unproven. In order to prevent the deterioration of her mind, she had decided to perform a pilgrimage to a shrine of Hircine, in hopes of aligning herself more towards the Prince; as a shot in the dark, she had assumed that this would repel the Madgod from rendering her completely insane.

Pilgrimage from Vulkwasten
After an increasing fit of mental instability, Kashya finally made the decision of passing her status as Town Guard Marshal to Varilora, in fervent hope that this decision could best keep the Guard on a road to prosperity. The former Marshal remained in town for a few weeks to ensure this stability before departing on the first of Sun's Height, unsure of where to go. Bound for nowhere in particular, the mer traveled across the vasts of the Valenwood for three days before finding herself on the border of Rawl'Kha, depleted of resources she had brought with her. Upon entering town, however, Kashya was victim of an attempted pickpocket from a Khajiit by the name of Sala'Dar. Despite the initially hostile interaction, the two quickly begin discussing their experiences with burglary, and Kashya soon found herself staying with the Khajiit in his home in the center of Rawl'Kha. After a night of recovery, the two shared stories compiled from their life experiences, and ultimately decide to join each other in their shared interest of theft. The two spent a week picking loose goods from merchant stalls within town before Kashya decided to admit the real reason of her arrival in Rawl'Kha. In order to purge the assumed insanity from Kashya's mind, she possessed intent to pray devotion to the Huntsman, Hircine, in hopes that this religious preference would deter the Madgod. Sala'Dar, however, offered the alternative option of periodic meditation in an effort to suppress Kashya's ramblings. The womer hesitantly accepted.
A day later, the rambling returned, and Kashya made the decision to depart from Rawl'Kha in hopes of finding a shrine to the Huntsman. Kashya left in the evening, with the promise to Sala'Dar of a quick return. Traveling through the Valenwood once again, Kashya rode for two days before coming into contact with a traveling merchant's caravan. On a whim, the mer inquired for directions to one of the Bosmer of the caravan, stating that she needed to know where any possible cultists might be located so that she could avoid them. Although the inquiry was met with hesitance, the Bosmer gave Kashya directions towards a familiar location. A day later, the womer found herself at the sight of a seemingly abandoned cultists' camp, with little still in place; all that remained was a shrine, in the center of the camp. Kashya spent a day praying and offering sacrifices to the shrine, but returned to Rawl'Kha a few days later with news of her assumed failure. Sala'Dar offered to resume the practices of meditation they had performed the week prior, to which Kashya agrees, albeit without much enthusiasm. After a few days, Kashya expressed no signs of her previously assumed insanity.
The two continued to steal from the local merchants until a seemingly simple job would result in their migration from Rawl'Kha. In an attempt to steal a valuable ornament from a local Khajiit, Kashya and Sala'Dar were caught in the attempt and forced to relocate. Within a week, the two were bound for a ship to the coast of Cyrodiil.
After arriving on the coast, Kashya and Sala'Dar stole two mounts and proceeded to make their way to Kvatch, where they organize a camp outside of town and began the familiar process of picking valuable items from local merchants. While this did prove successful, it would not last; after three days of theft, Kashya found a dead Sala'Dar outside of the local inn, his hands severed from his person. Kashya collected the Khajiit's coin and spent a few days selling off the valuables they had gathered before chartering a ship back for Velyn Harbor.
Kashya arrived at Velyn Harbor a week later, renting a room at a local inn and counting the coin she had accumulated. After stealing another horse, the mer made her way towards Vulkwasten, arriving on the eleventh of Last Seed. While the womer had intent to return, shame had stained her mind; Kashya spent the next few nights residing in a cave outside of Vulkwasten, slowly succumbing to a deep depression. Finally gathering her bearings, Kashya started for Cormount.
After several months of traveling and maintaining her distance from the town, something began to happen to the mer; pregnancy was something that was denied early on, but it was fickle. There could be no denying the extremely prevalent signs, and it was on the way here that Kashya decided to have her child in Cormount, away from prying eyes in Vulkwasten. She would decide to name the child "Lilin," after her sister, Lilinunta.
On the sixteenth of Last Seed, Kashya arrived in Cormount, where she spent two nights in the local tavern before finding a house available within town. A local Bosmer by the name of Minjua offered the house to Kashya for a bargain. After a long game and an exchange of competitive words, Kashya managed to beat the Bosmer in a series of riddles and other miscellaneous games, and paid for the home, respectively; as the two managed their way to the home, they began to discuss past and future endeavors. It is here that Kashya discovered Minjua's thief-hardy past. The two stay in the home together while they discuss plans for a new organization designed for the act of theft.
Within twenty-eight days, Kashya and Minjua have founded the Bellicose Trading Company and the Velyn Union. Utilizing several temporary staff and Minjua's charismatic nature, the Union proved extremely successful. Despite this, however, Kashya began to sink into a deep depression once more. Guilt began to swarm Kashya as her first few weeks with Lilin began to sink into her. Unable to fare with the idea of having to one day admit her shortcomigns to her child, Kashya socially dividing herself from the Union, and finally left Minjua in charge of the trading company and supplies. On the seventeenth of Hearthfire, Kashya started for her return to Vulkwasten.
