The room was dark as the night. There was no source of light, not even a lit candle or a mage light. The mer sat by the table, his eyes on the spot by the open window. He had gotten a sufficient amount of sleep. Woken by the enthusiastic sounds of his neighbors, a young couple in love, Elros merely waited now. Slowly, the first rays of the sun crept through the open window. He stood up and went to the window. His blank eyes swept out and took in the beauty of the dawn. With a quick prayer to the Lady of Dawn and Dusk, he began preparing.
The altmer took out a case from under the bed and opened it. In it was a black bow with an ancient design to it. Along with the bow there were a number of black feathered arrows with a small compartment for different arrow heads. He deftly fitted the arrow heads onto the shaft before lifting the small cushion holding his weapons. Under the bow's cushion was a cushion for his katanas. He had whetted them last night before getting his rest. He lifted that cushion and stared down at the armor. The speckled blue and deep purple made him very hard to detect, even in daylight. With a wry smile he checked over everything before he nodded to himself in satisfaction. Everything is in order. He locked the case and set it on the table with his breakfast. It was a small one, but with enough energy to fill him for the day. He wolfed down before taking a clear bottle of water and downing that as well. Then he set about cleaning the room of any traces of himself. With that done, he picked up his case and headed out of his rented room. The couple were still at it in the wee hours of the morning. Elros chortled to himself. So young...so in love. Without a second thought he went down the stairs and left a pouch by the inn's owner. The owner nodded and pocketed the pouch, adding to the jingle in his own pocket.
The altmer walked at brisk pace towards the embassy. The merchants were beginning to man their stalls and prepare to sell their wares for the day. Elros kept walking, not paying attention to them. A few bedraggled mer and khajiit who seemed to have drank their way through the taverns joined him on his way to the Thalmor Embassy. With a quick smile and nod to them he led them. Along the way they were joined by altmer in Thalmor uniforms. They gave Elros one quick glance, approving of his prim outfit, a dark cloak with the Thalmor symbol on it. To the others they gave a small shake of their head. When they weren't looking one of the bosmer stuck his tongue to them. Elros chuckled.
His eyes fell on the female altmer who walked in front of him. With a few strides he joined her and her colleagues. He flashed a bright smile to her. She did the same, her eyes fluttering slightly. Together they started entering the embassy. Elros quickly hid his case within his cloak, muttering an invisibility spell on it. The altmer woman beckoned to him. He followed her to her office after getting through the checkpoint at the door.
The minute they entered, she pulled him into a hug then a kiss. Elros smiled. He had her wrapped around his finger. They talked for a few minutes about trivial things until Elros approached her again. He kissed her deeply and wrapped a hand around her neck. Then he applied a mild fear spell to incapacitate her. Her face contorted in agony as she sank to her knees. Elros picked her up and left her in her chair. There, she stayed in a daze. Elros bound her well and made sure she wouldn't be able to get out. He then cast a mirage spell on himself. Now, he would resemble her wherever he went.
He left her office and began walking at a leisurely pace to the archives. He gained entrance with a flash of smile of the altmeri woman's visage.
Elros quickly started rifling through the archives of warrants and arrests. After finding the recent ones, he stacked them together on the table and began looking through each file carefully. So many old faces emerged from the pile of warrants. People he had worked with before. And then he found it. A file of one named Milo Hilltop. The altmer gave a wry smile and looked through the file. Quite a few charges were levied against the bosmer. Treason, smuggling of illegal goods, forging documents amongst other crimes. After he had found what he needed, Elros quickly stowed the file in an oilskin packet. It would stay safe there. He put the rest back from where he found it and cast the mirage spell again to appear as the Thalmor official. He quickly left the archive room...and found no guards outside. Elros quickly understood what was going on. He turned on his feet and sprinted to find an empty room around. After barging through a door, he donned his armor and readied his weapons. He put mask on. With macabre smile etched on to the mask, he bound the case on to his back and put the cloak back on. Suddenly, he heard loud commands. Heavy thuds echoed through the floor. The guards were on the move and were checking through all of the offices and rooms. Elros glided through the hallways as silent as possible. He made his way up the stairs to get to the roof. For now, that seemed to be the only way out. The guards did not seem to be far off. He even caught a glimpse of Thalmor Justiciars leading the heavily armored soldiers through the hallways.
The altmer found himself on the roof and was just about to jump off when he heard a loud crash.
"Stop right there, scum!" A female voice commanded harshly. Elros's heart skipped. It was the official he had been charming. She had five guards behind her, all holding up their swords and shields. She herself pointed her jeweled sword at him.
"Turn around, thief." She said curtly. The guards began inching forward. They were wary of sudden movements.
Elros turned his head slightly to look at them all. The womer had a furious expression and a large bruise on her forehead. Quite good. She broke through the restraints. Elros grinned.
"You look quite lovely with that expression. But I'm sorry, love, I have no intention of surrendering." Elros muttered a shadow clone incantation under his breath. He crouched low and pushed off into a shadow jump out of the city to a predetermined location.
Meanwhile, to the Thalmor official and the guard on the roof, it looked like Elros was just standing there. The shadow image wavered but turned around slowly. It was wearing the same cloak and dark mask. Its blood curdling smile seemed to stop the guards for a moment. They waited for the altmer womer's command. She scowled heavily at the dark cloaked figure.
"Kill him." She said the two words with venom. The guards obeyed and sprung into action. They were arranged in an encircling position and out flanked the shadow image. All of them thrust their swords into the figure in unison.
At first, nothing happened. The image rippled again. The guards slowly withdrew their swords. Just as the last blade was pulled free, the shadow image collapsed upon itself, no longer able to sustain the magic to keep up the illusion. The figure vanished into thin air, leaving nothing behind.
Everyone stood there dumbstruck. The Thalmor official was the first to react. Ranting to herself in Aldmeris, she directed the guards to start searching the city from top to bottom.
Elros splashed through the small stream. With the case bound on his back he stood up and caught his breath. After doing so, he made his way into the glade where his charger Shadowfax was grazing happily. With a few pats to his neck, he hopped onto the horse and rode out of Grahtwood to his destination.
