Ji'amja is a generally easygoing Khajiit, even to those who mock her deafness. She is always looking to help, be that help medically, though carpentry, or by way of the sword. However, just because she is a hardened fighter and sawbones doesn't mean that she dislikes social pursuits, drinking with friends and shipmates, telling stories, even gossiping.
Born in 2E 551, Ji'amja's parents were both surgeons by trade, running a clinic out of Riverhold, in the land of Keirgo of Anequina. At the time, her parents were very holistic healers, often performing surgeries only when they had to. As she was raised, her parents taught her the long and short of the profession, as well as the holistic medicines, setting her on her path forward in life.
Despite being so far inland, Riverhold saw many sailors, especially Imperials coming down from the Topal Sea inlet, or Khajiiti privateers coming in from Bravil. As she was trusted and often left unsupervised, she spoke with these various sailors through her teenage years, her head filled with thoughts of the open sea and the excitement that would come with it. As soon as she was of age, she set off with a crew of privateers.
For the next ten or so years, she learned the ins and outs of combat, ship raiding, and was even named the ship's medic thanks to her previous training and education in the arts, though she disregarded the holistic and religious stance her parents took on medicine. Everything was going well for her.
Unfortunately, her luck would soon change. After the formation of the Aldmeri Dominion, she and the crew undertook their first mission as privateers of the Queen. A simple run, it seemed, sink an Ebonheart raid ship on course for Kenarthi's Roost. What they didn't expect was the cargo they were carrying. The initial boarding was routine, the crew defeated and detained. One mage was the only thing that would turn the tide of the battle.
In an action fit only for a misguided martyr, he lit the oil barrels in the cargo hold, sending the ship up in a massive explosion. The Ebonheart crew was all but wiped out, and Ji'amja's crew hit hard as well. At first, she seemed unscathed, only a few cuts and bruises, as well as the ringing that often accompanied a large explosion. But when the ringing stopped, there was nothing. Only silence. Only deaf, crushing silence.
It took over three months for Ji'amja to come to terms with the fact that she would never hear again, and another few years to regain the ability to speak. She was placed on leave for over two years, during which time she re-learned everything, fighting, understanding speech, and environmental awareness, but when she returned, she was capable of function just as before. Since her injury, she has continued serving the Queen and the Dominion with her crew, and helping wherever she can.
