Hidden beneath the guise of the Bellicose Trading Company lies an organization buried in the promise of discretion to all but those that know of its true intention. Behind the closed doors of a seemingly sheltered, innocent trading community, the Velyn Union stands in secrecy as an association of thieves and smugglers, all banded together under the oath of a single, primary goal. "Through the various acts of theft, one can see riches beyond their fantastical imagination."

The Velyn Union is meant to act as a shelter, working area, and contracting area for thieves, smugglers, burglars, and footpads alike. Accepting a variety of contracts, the Union is an organization of miscellaneous choice in which a thief may find solace in variety. The Velyn Union was founded as a seemingly legitimate business by the name of the "Bellicose Trading Company," which maintains a professional, legitimate face by making regular trading deals around Velyn Harbor. Although the Bellicose Trading Company operates out of Cormount, any and all operations pertaining to theft are maintained in Velyn Harbor's Outlaws Refuge, far from suspicious eyes.

The Velyn Union is a formally organized band of thieves operating under the disguise of a legitimate trading company based outside of Cormount. In order to maintain organizational comprehension, the layout of the associations will be listed here.

Secretary - TBD [NPC Position]

In order to keep a consistent front, the Velyn Union utilizes their recruitment and shipment through a partially legitimate business by the name of the Bellicose Trading Company. The trading company exports legitimate and stolen goods through cargo ships travelling from Velyn Harbor, with consistent ledgers kept by the secretary of the company. Stolen items are recorded in the ledger as though they were legally purchased to maintain a first-glance approval.

Chairwoman - TBD

The Velyn Union is the underhand organization concealed by the Bellicose Trading Company. Sheltered in the Velyn Harbor Outlaw Refuge, the Union is headed by [TBD] under the alias of [TBD]. Objectives of the Union include the obtainment of goods and coin through acts of theft. Contracts that may be offered by the Union can be found, ICly, within the Refuge. Any active thieves within the Velyn Union will return their stolen goods to Bellicose, or to an NPC secretary in the event of Bellicose's absence.

IC Recruiting - Several fliers are posted around Cormount, Vulkwasten, Velyn Harbor, and Marbruk, which advertise sales for the Bellicose Trading Company. On the back of each flier, however, is a drawing of a ship with the inscription of "Velyn Nouni: Wotalu Fergue " over the sails. The simple word jumble will prove the only hint at the underside of the Trading Company, "Velyn Union: Outlaw Refuge." Alternatively, one may be directly confronted by Bellicose or Minjua for an offer of recruitment.

OOC Recruiting - The Deft of Cormount is designed as a faction for those who enjoy miscellaneous burglary that actually provides in-game coin and a variety of options when choosing contracts. Although one's character does not exactly have to be a thief to join, it is highly, highly recommended that they have some sort of skill or desire to become a thief. To join the faction, simply contact me (@Vulano) in game for details.

Where do I access contracts? Any and all contracts pertaining to the Velyn Union will be posted on the RP Job Board, accessible at the top of this page. Otherwise, you may click here. If a contract is limited to a certain rank or time, it will be posted within the description.

How do contracts work? A contract is to be selected within the RP Job Board; if it is a contract from the Velyn Union, it will be tagged with [Velyn Union], followed by the contact. When one is ready to accept a contract, they may contact the Chairperson, or an available Executive, for approval. Once accepted, the contract event may be OOCly DMed by an Executive, Director, or the Chairperson. More information on how this works will be posted at a later date.

Ranks are designed within the Velyn Union in order to maintain a fluid chain of command and give thieves the opportunity of taking a position of leadership within the organization. In order to be promoted, a thief must excel in work performance and meet a set of standards within their situational performance. OOCly, this translation is simple: Meet the prerequisites and be active during Union events, and your character will be looking at promotions. Notice: Although your character may meet the prerequisites, promotion is at the decision of the Union Chairwoman. While promotions in lower ranks (Ex. Deft > Associate) are practically guaranteed, a promotion to a more duty-entailed rank such as Director will be at the consent of Kashya Vulano, OOCly.

Why is there a Prerequisite System? With the arrival of a criminal faction, I wanted to take a different approach, and this seemed like a good opportunity. The prerequisites act as a bit of a progress checker, to see how far your character is from a promotion. In the past, faction leaders have been known to just toss out promotions willy-nilly, only for that new promoted member to never do anything significant again. In order to limit that, and give everyone the equal opportunity to progress through the Union ranks, I've decided to try something new. If this idea works in the end, I'll squeeze in a few more ranks to make things more challenging. All of these prerequisites will be earned in-game; when a thief completes a contract, he or she will be paid a certain amount for the job. When reported to the Chairperson, (@Vulano), your total will be tallied on the roster. When these prerequisites have been met, your character will be available for promotion at the consent of the Chairperson.

Are there any exceptions to the Prerequisite System? Yes. During the initial creation or recreation of the faction, one to two thieves may be selected to act as Directors, in order to provide assistance during this initial faction creation. Otherwise, the prerequisite system will remain enact.

Why do most of the ranks sound like staff positions within a business? This is an IC choice; in order to maintain the face of a working, breathing company, thieves are given staff titles to maintain the appearance of employment within the company. Defts are the exception; when recruited, a Deft has yet to prove their worth, and is only kept loosely within the Union. If the Deft is caught when trying to perform a job, the Union will be able to hold no affiliation or responsibility of the failed thief.

Deft- As an entry-level thief, the Deft is looked upon as a member who has yet to prove their worth. Exceptional job performance and attendance will allow a Deft the opportunity for promotion.

Promotion Prerequisites - In order to be promoted, a Deft must meet the following:

Gold Accumulated from ContractsEvents Attended
1,0001

Associate - After expressing exemplary performance in work ability, a Deft will be promoted to an Associate, where they may expect more contracting opportunities, as well as a higher payout. The Associate is a low-tier thief that is capable of directing Defts; despite this, their order may be overruled by a higher rank.

Promotion Prerequisites - In order to be promoted, an Associate must meet the following:

Gold Accumulated from ContractsEvents Attended
6,0003

Director - An Associate is only promoted to the rank of a Director if they successfully gain the trust of the Chairman/Chairwoman, usually through the completion of several high-priority tasks. Furthermore, the Associate must express an evident skill in leadership ability and task management.

Promotion Prerequisites - In order to be promoted, a Director must meet the following:

Gold Accumulated from ContractsEvents Attended
14,0007

Executive - The Executive will act as the right-hand to the Chairman/woman within the Velyn Union, and may only be elected as a single unit; there may only be one Executive within the Union. This thief has completed all prerequisites and has shown stellar performance in a variety of skills, including job performance, time management, and leadership.

There are no prerequisites. A chairman/woman is the leader of the faction, and may only be elected during a change of leadership.

Chairman/woman - The Chairman or Chairwoman acts as the overall head of the Velyn Union and Bellicose Trading Company, overseeing all operations with a watchful eye and providing assistance to any thief within the company that may require it. The Chairman also manages the distribution of gold payout and promotions within the Velyn Union.

There are no prerequisites. A chairman/woman is the leader of the faction, and may only be elected during a change of leadership.
