Why is your character in Dominion territory? How did they get here?

Darian has always been a wanderer and has never truly stayed in one place for very long, with the exception of his late wife and daughter having anchored him to a small village near Daggerfall. When they were murdered he returned to his life of traveling and adventure, and the odd bit of mercenary work and headed to the far east, spending a great deal of time in the provinces of Morrowind and Skyrim. When he grew tired of the ash of the Red Mountain and the bleakness of Skyrim's snowy tundra he headed back through Cyrodiil where he attempted to track down those responsible for murdering his family. Their trail lead him to the far southeast in the Summerset Isle then into the forests of Valenwood where he has lately been spending a great deal of time. As he is aligned with none of the three factions as of yet he tends to stay out of the business of the war and local politics.

Background

Born in Cyrodiil to a family of wealth and some stature, Darian was raised to appreciate the finer things in life. He spent half of his childhood studying and half learning how to hunt with his father, favoring the outdoors to the dusty old library. His mother insisted he become a man of knowledge and wisdom, though his father held a different opinion, favoring a more physical approach, grooming his son to become a great hunter and soldier. When he wasn't with his parents he spent his time with a young knight named Arguson Darr who had suggested Darian become a squire, though he never went through with it. Darian preferred the less honorable sort of activities like drinking, dancing naked in the rain and midnight rendezvous with noblemen's daughters. Around his home town he was known as "The Rainy Drunk" because he was found several times passed out drunk, in the rain with his clothes nowhere to be found.

When Darian grew into a man his wanderlust overtook him and he left his childhood home to search for fortune, excitement and adventure. He travelled north first but was not fond of the cold so he wandered for some time and ended up in High Rock where he made a living working with a bowyer. It was here that he met his first adventuring companion who would also later become his wife, Ayela. The two traveled far and wide, amassing a small fortune through their exploits in Hammerfell, stealing from rich Redguards, taking on bandit gangs, collecting various bounties and occasionally stumbling upon some great and mystical treasures. After a while, they were married and returned to High Rock to start a family, resulting in a daughter whom they named Nayra after Ayela's grandmother. Darian's next 5 years were quite peaceful and not once did he think of returning to his old life, having all he wanted in his wife and daughter and their humble home. Unfortunately this would not last.

One night while they slept, a small group of vampires attacked the village, killing any and all they could find, among them Darian's beloved wife and daughter, but leaving him for dead. He was bitten but did not notice as when he awoke he was stricken with grief from the loss of his family. He never found his wife's corpse, but saw fatal quantities of her blood and her shredded nightclothes in their bed and so presumed that she had died during the attack. Darian spent the morning digging his daughter's grave and burying her near their ruined home then disappeared.

He re-emerged several years later as a hardened and calm yet oddly cold mercenary of some talent. During his disappearance he had seemingly earned the nicknames "The Feign" and "The Dread Feign" though not many know the origin of this. He would return to his life of travels under the guise of an adventurer, sellsword and scoundrel and eventually end up in Valenwood.
