So in officer chat, a situation was brought up. What do we do when people want to run businesses out of their home spaces, whether the home space is ICly in Vulkwasten or else where? We obviously can't tell people what to do with their homes, but this poses the issue of drawing RP from Vulkwasten. During the discussion, the officers came up with a few things:

  1. No already-designated town space function should be copied into an interior private house with the intention of using the private house in place of or prioritized over the existing one. (For example, don't make a tavern with the intention of using it over the actual tavern).
  2. Using guild communication (Discord/Guild chat) to advertise events or home RP that is to occur during a guild event results in a strike.
  3. Causing member attendance to events or casual tavern RP between events to drop on a consistent basis will result in a strike. (I feel this is one of those, if the person is doing this intentionally or enough to hurt us, we'll know who and will be able to talk to them, because it'll be obvious)
  4. People who want to be considered guild official businesses with access to guild scheduling tools including the calendar, MOTD, must be a part of the merchant's thingy.

These rules seek to prevent the guild from telling members how to use their homes, while also prevent members from drawing significant amounts of RP from Vulkwasten, that would result in the guild dying.

What we need to do now, before more and more people ask to open businesses in their homes, is figure out what information we would need from these people on an IC and OOC level, that would allow them to join the merchant's thing. We also need to figure out what stipulations may be placed on the business operations to prevent the businesses from pulling significant amounts of RP out of Vulk. That's what this thread exists for.

To be a bit more specific, the merchant's thing would exist to help us regulate interior/home RP as a business so that it doesn't kill tavern RP. It wouldn't be a requirement to join, but we'd essentially not allow any non-business partners to use our calendars, site, and MOTD for scheduling. That, combined with the addition of rules 2 & 3 listed above, would only allow them to mention that their business is open for RP in guild channels of communication on occasion when no events are happening, otherwise they would violate these rules.

Meanwhile, any business partners would be able to use the our calendars, site, and MOTD for scheduling, and the hours of operation would be considered loosely as a guild event, which would mean they'd have access to advertising in guild channels of communication. The only thing I'd say is, they can do this only when things like guild story events or faction events aren't happening, because those would take priority.

I think that a business would need to give us:
Business name
Business owner
Services or products the business is to provide
Illegal services or products the business is to provide (only known OOCly)
Hours of operation

I think some stipulations to consider are:
The business only employs two guild members maximum (presumably one is the owner). This would be to cap the amount of people drawn out of RP.
If providing a service, the business is open by appointment.
If providing goods, the business is open no more than 3 hours a week in a non-Vulkwasten location, and uses the already-existing Vulkwasten merchant stalls and spaces as a primary retail space. They may also consider using a private house as a storage space/warehouse.

What does everyone think?

Could also add to the "business need to give us" list, is if the business will be used as a front for anything illegal. If so, we can tie it into criminals.
