What is her/his Background:
Disillusioned by what he found out about his ancestry, Arasys never imagined finding himself questioning not only his ancestral purity but the very core of arcane logic away from his homeland in solitude. As a graduate of Summerset Isles’ Arcane University, analytical approach towards arcane phenomena always held the central position for those who admired Syrabane’s achievements. When he was only 23, Arasys could easily overperform and add artistic flavors to AkaMolog competition compared to his colleagues from Akademia (Akamolog – Dragonfire in Altmeri, a regional contest for those who can shape fire and create geometrical shapes in the sky through magicka in Lillandril, takes place during Sun’s Dusk to light up midnight).
Yet there he was .. pushed away from his family and home to Mathiisen, the very place deemed suburban by noble Altmer from luxurious cities of Western Summerset, only because he was deemed too skeptical of his familial teachings about their roots. Maybe he was losing his mind, assuming there’s more than what meets the eye. But it was already too late, his brother Ilseron was here to dissuade him. Arasys knew his parents were not only furious but also reluctant towards “unnecessary” gossip in Lillandril.
Arasys repeated a `blasphemous` Ayleid proverb “Ne nium, ne orsi-meri” (No god, no servitude), facing away from his brother as Ilseron was observing the books his brother carefully aligned on the countless number of shelves in his new home. Skepticism was obvious on his face, but Ilseron knew this time his little brother found something closest to a proof in Vulkwasten.
“Where you are looking at, grab the book published by University of Gwylim, you will see where I marked. Read.” Arasys paused for a moment with a quizzical look on his face, taking two steps closer to his brother with reluctance to make sure he finds the very excerpt he is vaguely referring to as he always does, after all referencing abstractly was an indirect insult among noble Altmer:
“Here.. read this Ilseron, open your eyes; know that if you remain with our parents your turn will come. Thalmor will.. they will find more about what I found. They already sent spies after me. Our ways defy their beliefs as Chimer did in the past. But it is necessary that we know, even if I am wrong”
Afraid his brother was losing touch with sanity, he couldn’t help but realize his skepticism is also growing stronger, Ilseron hesitantly grabbed the tome and read the excerpt:
“Written by the Esteemed Historian Homfrey at the University of Gwylim, 2E 455
Being a Survey of the Triumphant Settlement of the Heartland High Elves in the Southern Regions
…At this point, we should mention the remarkable cities of Ceyatatar, and the Ayleid settlement beneath what is now modern Bravil. These cities, along with the Valenwood cities of Haven, Woodhearth, and Silvenar, all flourished as a result of increased trade after the establishment of the great White-Gold Tower in what is now the heart of Cyrodiil.
Of note in particular is the university and libraries at nearby Elden Root. The Ayleids there built their city in and around what is called the Elden Tree or the First Tree, believed by many to be the tree that seeded all of Valenwood.
Both Haven and Woodhearth were destroyed utterly by the sieging Maormer, who cared little for the advanced and enlightened ways of the Valenwood Aldmer. Marching inland, they plundered not only the Elden Root enclave, but also the Great Tree itself. What villainous tribe would injure and pillage such magnificence?
Particularly the wealthy noble families left far ahead of destruction foreseen by their magi in Ceyatatar, and hastily adapted to Summerset Altmer culture in order to survive. Through coercion and deception, Llanoriens hired corrupt Maormer to have safe passage to Northern Summerset, and vowed to keep their lineage secret.
It is believed their sentiments towards Dae -*you see a large ink stain making following few sentences illegible* -
Over time they managed to raise their stature among Altmeri hierarchy as a fairly known family from Lillandril”
Ilseron trusted his brother more than anyone, he knew his little brother was imperfect in terms of keeping his mouth shut about truth and honesty when it comes to politics among Summerset’s nobility. He suspected part of his family may have Ayleid lineage. He always wanted to question the truth ever since his parents told them stories of their wicked cousins who ran away from Ceyatatar and moved to north of Summerset Isles. It was becoming more clear why their parents were acting strangely when Ayleids were the dinner table topic.
Ilseron thought about the latest incident that made his parents decide on fate of Arasys when University considered Arasys “too fond” of Ayleid culture and their methods after graduation.
Why is your character in Dominion territory?
Arasys’ recent research regarding his family’s ancestry hinted there might be more clues of those who fled Ceyatatar, an ancient Ayleid city that is now sealed away after its demise (If I remember correctly in TES IV – Oblivion players are able to visit there).
Based on his findings, Arasys realizes there’s a good possibility of finding ancestral traces left in Malabal Tor, a region known have few of the Ayleid sanctuaries before their disappearance. After all, Abamath was founded by those who fled from Alessia’s carnage, same goes for Belarata and Ilayas.
How did he get here?
Few days after his brother’s visit, Arasys decided to take few belongings with him. A diary, his sealed spellbook, and his favorite staff given after graduation by his parents. He was unsure what awaits him in Valenwood yet he knew ever growing skepticism changed him. As he reached Vukhel Guard's docks to get to Malabal Tor, Arasys pushed away his fears and thought about an Ayleid proverb he recently read: “In the caverns of lore, ugly and obscure, shines the gold of truth”. Arasys left Summerset Isles knowing one day he will come back.
Personality:
Behind his inquisitive eyes lies an unpredictable and unorthodox personality, who can be very talkative or extremely quiet depending on his mood. His mood? A rainy weather can easily fill the day with melancholy or inspire his curiosity.
Rumors: Arasys was first seen with members of the Mages Guild in Vulkwasten a week ago, something made guild members cautious about him.
Likes:
-Reading
-Sharing and learning arcane knowledge and lore
-Drinking and secretly enjoys skooma provided by his select Khajiit dealers in Auridon
-Gardening & cooking
Dislikes:
-Ignorance
-He is opinionated towards humans and dogmatic Altmer
-Although he has a very helpful soul, his face seems too serious to be approachable at times
-Selfish behavior
Weaknesses:
- Arasys is somewhat dexterous yet his physical strength can be lacking
- He is too empathetic and sensitive for others’ needs, he tries his best to not show it
- Obsessively detail oriented
