The Magpie Trading Company
IC Leader: Wraesha
OOC Admin: @Sushiboatforone

The Magpie Trading Company is a Criminal Faction made up of (mostly) good people, doing (mostly) bad things. We seek to provide a less violent path for thieves, sneaks, smugglers, free traders, and privateers. In addition, the Company also runs legitimate trade through the Abecean Sea, ranging from the various coastal ports of call and land based routes from Cyrodiil and into the heart of Grahtwood.

Events

Events

Events Include:
-Obtaining hard to come by artifacts, items, and questionably larcenous materials.
-Transporting said objects from point A to point B, and all of the troubles that tend to crop up on the road.
-Protecting the goods from those who take without asking, making sure our other members stay alive and well, and maybe breaking the kneecaps of people who really deserve it.

The Story So Far:

The Magpies showed up to a small Elswyer town with a load of ivory and a maybe stolen alyeid artifact only to find their buyer brutally murdered. After a long investigation, the Magpies found the killer, and instead of turning her in, made a deal with her and sold the goods. The Magpies went home with heavier pockets, and a brand new contact. So long as you get paid, who cares if you're helping out a murderer?

Several weeks later the Magpies travelled to Blackmarsh. After a successful delivery job, they rested for the night, sharing drinks and stories. Later that night, Wraesha took a group deep into the swamps to tap a Hist tree and steal some sap for a wealthy wizard.

After a few long weeks with no job, the Magpies set out again, this time to the gold coast with a cart full of Mammoth meat and furs. The Magpies ended up getting caught in a storm, forcing them to take cover in an old, seemingly empty barn. But something else was lurking nearby. Turns out the barn belonged to a necromancer, cursed by Boethiah, and doomed to a half life, his only hope of escape being the capture of souls to turn himself into a lich. The Magpies were plagued by summoned daedra all night. Several members were hurt, and one was even killed, his soul captured in a soulgem. The onslaught only ended after Thelin killed the necromancer, and the daedra disappeared. The soulgem containing the broken soul of the dead transporter was recovered, and stashed away on the Magpies cart.

After another job well done, the Magpies stopped for drinks, rude pranks, and conversation about the future. Wraesha pulled aside Wren, Glooras, and Shen to tell them about her plans for the future of the Magpies. No one was thrilled, but Wren disagreed with Wraesha wholeheartedly. What comes next is anybody's guess, but one thing is clear; The Magpies are done pulling punches.

It came to light that the Magpies were struggling. The Magpie was looking for much more from the southern branch, and was considering shutting them down if they did not provide more of a profit. A Telvanni wizard offered to pay the Magpies a whole lot for Ulu’s soul gem, and Wraesha planned to sell the gem at the end of the week, but some of the Magpies disagreed. Wren and Terath eventually took matters into their own hands, and stole the gem from Wraesha, handing it off to a wizard to destroy it. Whether or not this helped Ulu will probably never be known, but the point remained. The soul gem was gone. In an act of desperation, the remaining Magpies were assembled. They travelled to Mournhold in Morrowind and met with the wizard in question. They were able to find the man who was holding his money, and steal it before any transaction took place. They escaped via portal back to Vulkwasten at the end of the night.

While the town was under attack from outside forces, the Fighters Guild contacted the Magpies to transport much needed supplies from Anvil. The Fighters Guild secured the beachfront while the Magpies sailed to Anvil. They had some trouble acquiring supplies, but they were able the merchant down and get what they need. Upon returning to the ship however, Wraesha was nowhere to be found. She was found by the lighthouse, having been in an altercation with Wren after she had confronted Wraesha about selling skooma while the Magpies were on a supply run. Keys was injured in the fight, and Wraesha attempted to escape with her when she was stopped. Seriduril opened a portal back to Vulkwasten, and then arrested Wraesha while the others sailed back home with the supplies. They encountered Daedra on the beach, but were able to push them back and return to town. With the Regional Director in jail, and loyalties shattered, the Magpies seem to have all but fallen apart. What happens next, is anybody's guess, but it'll be a long time before they can get back on their feet again.

Ranks

Ranks
The Magpie- A mysterious benefactor with spiderweb of connections across Cyrodiil. Some of these connections are legitimate, some you shouldn’t ask too many questions about. The Magpie works behind the scenes, preferring to (mostly) keep their hands out of the day to day operations of the Trading Company. There’s been questions to whether or not The Magpie is a single person, or if they exist at all. Nevertheless, the company would not be able to function without their generous financial help.

Regional Director-The Regional Directors are the face of the Magpie Trading Company. Handling everything from the accounts and trade routes, to coordinating the less scrupulous conversations that happen behind closed doors, the Regional Directors are the managerial staff that keeps the company alive. For anyone signing on in Vulkswasten and the Valenwood area, they’ll have to answer to Southern Regional Director.

Senior Members- Often times there will be those exceptional individuals whose service and commitment stand out to the company. Be they Obtainers, Protectors, or Transporters, every business needs people who are willing to do the hard work, (and the dirty deeds) necessary to keep the Company thriving. Senior Members are those trusted few who are expected to mentor, and train all new recruits to the Magpies.

Obtainers- Before you can start trading, you need to have something to trade. Obtainers are the ones trusted to acquire goods for the company. Some of you may be crafters, some of you might be traders in their own right. Some might pursue more eclectic methods of obtaining. While not thieves, many Obtainers don’t have any trouble associating with the lower echelons of society. Sometimes they may need purchase a package filled with a questionable purple liquid. Sometimes they will need to ‘convince’ a blacksmith to sell to us. I even heard there was some valuable Ayleid artifact that has recently gone missing from the home of a well known noble. Perhaps it’s new owners could be convinced to part way with it?

Transporters- The Magpies are always searching for dedicated, hard working caravaners who know how to keep a secret. You really don’t need to ask too many questions. Really, we tend to prefer if you don’t. You’re perfectly allowed to believe that everything we do is perfectly legitimate, legal, and up to code. Though, if you do start to ask questions, and you like the answers you receive, you may be eligible for certain jobs we like to keep away from the faint of heart. What’s a little possible treason, or drug trafficking in the pursuit of wealth?

Protectors- What’s a caravan without guards? A pretty big target, that’s what. We don’t expect any of our protectors to wear badges, or wear any fancy uniforms. We all know how we feel about the lawful types hanging around. We’re looking for capable people who aren’t afraid of a fight. You’re main task is to stand there and look scary. We’re not violent folks, but our honeyed words tend to be more readily accepted when we carry a really big stick. Most of our muscle participates in only the most legal type of private security, but if certain people know too much about certain goods and services we provide, we might ask a Protector to protect our trade secrets. You know how it is.

Faction Rules

I. OOC Conduct
1) Please respect your fellow faction and guild members. If you have a faction specific concern, feel free to talk to @Sushiboatforone.
2) All members are expected to accept the consequences of their actions. We’re (sort of) a criminal faction, but that doesn’t mean we’re above the law. IC consequences are part of the game. Hopefully it will be fun, but if you’re not too keen on your character taking risks, then this may not be the faction for you.
3) The faction leader has an open door policy. I want to hear your ideas, thoughts, and concerns. Always feel free to reach out to me on Discord at @Lizzybug#7100, in game at @Sushiboatforone, or on Enjin at Sushiboatforone.
4) When required, dice rolls will be done by the Game Master using the public Discord channel. Private rolls will be whispered to the player by the Game Master.
5) All members are expected to follow the standard BSRP rules of conduct in addition to ones listed here.

II. Trading Company Policy - IC Conduct

1) Show respect to the senior officers, your path-mates, and the Magpie. A lack of respect is a sign that you do not wish to be paid. Repeated offenses will be met with consequences.
2) We have standards. We’re not slavers. We’re not murderers. We’re not trouble makers. If you betray our standards, you betray the company.
3) Sharing confidential information is a betrayal of the company.
4) Harming another member of the company without reason is a betrayal of the company.
5) Those who betray the company, betray the Magpie. Those who betray the Magpie will be met with dismissal from the company, and possible retaliation.
6) We’re family. Do not forget that.

III. How to Join
Approach any Transporter, or obvious Protector! If a Obtainer advises you to join, there’s probably a reason. Wreasha, the local regional director, will also be around to recruit new friendly faces, and ne'er do wells. If you're looking for a reason to find Wraesha IC, this has been pinned on the notice board outside the tavern.

We’ll be in touch.
