Without his helmet Red Eagle has medium length red hair and ice blue eyes. Red Eagle's face is youthful with soft features. Most noticeably, he has an X branded on his mouth and burn marks over his eyes which he frequently covers over in paint. Red Eagle is of an average build and around 5'8". He proudly wears his reachmen armor (which has caused some controversy among various towns) and his helmet is made from the skull of his clan's former chieftain (who he killed). Red Eagle's voice sounds young but he speaks boldly, he also noticeably has a bit of an accent.
Personality Description:
Red Eagle is bold, proud, and dogmatic. Although coming from the reachmen he views violence as a necessary tool and has disdain for those who use it to oppress people. Despite the atrocities committed by his people in the past, he views the reachmen as noble but misguided, and believes that if steered in the right direction the reachmen could be respected and have sovereignty over their lands. Red Eagle won't hesitate to fight his "misguided brethren" if it means progress for what he sees as the 'greater good.' Although Red Eagle is an excellent fighter, he is even more notable in his diplomacy skills, which has saved him from many conflicts within the Daggerfall Covenant. Red Eagle views himself as a morally good person, but from an outsider's perspective, have done things mostly in morally grey areas. Overall, most of his actions can be attributed to what he sees as part of the path to bring the reachmen the sovereignty. Red Eagle has a hatred for Molag Bal, who he sees as a corruptor to manipulate Reachmen into slavery with false promises of freedom. He views Molag Bal as the Empress Hestra of his generation. Red Eagle worships Hircine, but he is not a zealot and believes that the needs of the Reachmen come before pleasing his patron god. He also does not wish to have Hircine's blessing as it would interfere with his leadership abilities. Red Eagle has more positive views towards Bretons than his brethren and believes that they are the closest potential allies in the outside world. Red Eagle has a general distrust towards Nords, but will be friendly for the sake of diplomacy.
Background:
Red Eagle was born named Maelchon in the Sundering Hills of Skyrim. The clan he was born in was particularly proud as they can trace their roots to the original hero of the Reach. Maelchon's father was the personal guard of the clan's chieftain and his mother was a huntress and leatherworker. With the exception of the chieftain, who was notably cruel and brutal, the rest of the clan was worried about increasing infighting among certain clans and the unhealthy devotion to Molag Bal that other chieftains have pledged themselves to. Although it was commonly known to the Reachmen that Red Eagle would return once the Reach has finally been reclaimed, a certain group of Hagravens carried a separate prophecy that Red Eagle would be reborn 'when the Reach needs him most.' One particular Hagraven, who was also concerned with the Reachmen pledging themselves to Molag Bal, carried relics of Red Eagle and would test the youth of particular clans to see if any of them had (what she believed) as a spiritual connection to them. Once the Hagraven found Maelchon, she noticed an immediate connection between him and the objects. From then he casted aside his former name and accepted his destiny as Red Eagle reborn. He engaged in extreme trials to test his wit and strength, after completing them his clan kneeled to him I need honor of who they believed him to be. The only exception was the chieftain who told him "only in death would I accept you as Red Eagle." Red Eagle had one of the most difficult fights of his life but managed to kill the chieftain and turned his skull into a trophy mask.
After becoming the new chieftain of his clan he moved on to sway the hearts of the rest of the clans. Some clansmen were intrigued by his plans of joining the Daggerfall Covenant to use their assistance to reclaim the Reach and be recognized as a sovereign nation. But most others hated him for it and believed him to be "paid off by the outsiders." In particular, the Bloodthorn Cult saw him as a heretic to Molag Bal and managed to used their clout to convince the leading clan chieftains to exile him (as simply killing him could turn him into a martyr). Red Eagle was obviously hurt by the exile, but also saw it as part of his initiation as the former Red Eagle was also an exile as well. Doing what he believed would be the best path for the Reachmen he found his way into Daggerfall and managed to convince the Lion Guard to grant him Asylum as an exile. The natives of Daggerfall originally treated him with distrust (even more so with his refusal to dress socially appropriately), but through hard work he managed to gain trust. Red Eagle now moves on to do whatever he sees as necessary to help him return in power to all of the Reachmen. One day he hopes to see himself officially recognized as Red Eagle reborn and unite all of the Reachmen to cast aside the chains of Molag Bal and finally be given sovereignty over their land.
Reaching the Dominion:
After extensive time of trying to gaining trust in the Daggerfall Covenant, Red Eagle feared that the Covenant may not support his quest of reclaiming The Reach. Since The Ebonheart Pact were the very people he was fighting against, The Dominion was the only other option, and one that may have been out of the reach (no pun intended) of the Reachmen. Although Red Eagle has had very little contact with the elves, and was initially weary of them, he saw them as a new hope and a potential ally to support his quest. Moving from the warlands of Cyrodiil, Red Eagle made his way to Valenwood to see the strange and extoic culture of the Wood Elves. From there he hopes to make a name for himself and possibly foster an alliance.
