Physical Description

Description
Mazzog is an older orc, appearing to be in her early to mid sixties. She carries herself with the air of a warrior, having thick muscles on her arms, and legs. She works hard to stay fit as she rapidly approached her venerable years. Her resting face of passive judgment is only enhanced by the wrinkles on her skin. She has a noticeable scar across her cheek, and a different story about how she got it every time she's asked. Her fingers are thick and calloused, and carry their own share of scars and burn marks. They’ll often be blackened with charcoal from the forge. She strongly prefers to wear practical clothing, tending towards leathers, furs, and thicker blends of cotton. She’ll wear armor, but only when the situation warrants it. She tends to carry a buckler and arming sword strapped to her hip, ready to be quickly drawn if the situation warrants it.

Personality
Mazzog fits neatly into orcish stereotypes. She is a fighter, tactical thinker, blacksmith, and has a no BS attitude. All that said, she’s got her own struggles. She’s getting older, and though she’ll never admit it, she’s starting to feel it. An old injury in her leg pops up every now and again to hold her back. She’s grudgingly moved off of the front lines, and into the role of the teacher and tactician. She’s proud of her old, grumpy, orcish mannerisms, and tries hard to hide the fact that under her crusty exterior she’s a big softie. She’s staunchly anti-war, and advocates that swords and steel are only tools, and that you better be damn sure you want to kill someone before you start swinging. She’s got a very tough love sort of approach to life, though she’s quick to take people under her wing.

Mazzog has a tumultuous relationship with Malacath. On one hand she identifies with the outcast nature of the prince, and carries her own very strong code of honor. On the other, she scorns the patriarchal interpretation of his code, and urges orc women to find their own way in the world. She believes that anyone worshipping Trinimac is an idiot, and that staunch followers of Malacath are dangerous at best. Still, she unwittingly worships the Daedric prince in her own ways, by following her own version of the code of Malacath, and by invoking his name in victory.

Why is your character in Dominion territory?

Why is your character here?
Mazzog came to the Valenwood in search of the wood orcs, though she didn’t fit in to well with them at all. She didn’t stay with them very long, instead searching for jobs in the area, eventually finding her way to Vulkwasten.

Background

Background
Mazzog was born in 519 2E, to the Lohkeir clan, a small clan in the Wrothgar mountains. She grew up in accordance to orcish culture, learning how to fight, smith, hunt, and cook. She had many friends, and was generally well liked. She was a rule follower, but she was never afraid to speak her mind. When she was a young woman, her father, the clan chief, had arranged for her to be sold to another clan on the border of Skyrim as a wife. Mazzog objected to this vocally, though social pressures from her clan, and the fact that it was a very lucrative deal, convinced her to go along with the arranged marriage.

By 538, Mazzog Lohkeir became Mazzog Durgish, the third wife of the Durgish clan chief. Mazzog adjusted faster than she had expected, and made herself useful to the Durgish, becoming very close to the Forge Mother of the clan. She continued fighting, teaching, and smithing, leading hunting trips and participating in expeditions into dwemer ruins for ore. On more than one occasion she was called upon to protect the walls from attacks from reachman, or rival clans. She liked the chief well enough at the time, but now she questions how much of that was her opinion, or the opinion of the clan rubbing off on her. Over a period of ten years, she gave birth to two children. While pregnant with her third, the son of the Forge Mother killed the chief, taking over the clan. Mazzog did not weep for her husband, but was broken hearted that the Forge Mother encouraged her son to take over the clan without telling her. Stripped of her status, she left her two children with the clan and travelled back to High Rock alone.

In 548, just a few months later, she gave birth to her third child, Krash. She struggled to find work, and raise her child alone. For about a year, she bounced between odd jobs, working at a bar, a smithy, and as a dock worker. While doing freelance blacksmithing work, she met another orc, Ethmat, who had left her stronghold years before to avoid becoming a wife. The two became close friends, with Ethmat helping with childcare when needed. Their relationship quickly blossomed into a romance, and they were married at midnight the next year.

With the help of Ethmat and her friends, Mazzog joined a small company of soldiers technically under the command of King Emeric. For the most part, she was on reserve, though occasionally she would be sent out to deal with a rogue troll, or group of pirates. Eventually, Ethmat and Mazzog’s relationship started to wear thin, with neither of them communicating the way they wanted the other too. To make matters worse, Krash had started to get himself into trouble, getting into fights with teens in the area. Ethmat and Mazzog decided it would be better to take some time apart. Ethmat left, and never returned. Mazzog was a single mother again.

To give Krash structure, Mazzog took him into her company as a squire of sorts. Just a few years later, when Krash was barely an adult, Ranser's War broke out, and the company was called to fight. Mazzog became a leader among her company, and helped train some of the new recruits. Several months into the war, Mazzog’s company was sent to the Rivenspire front. Krash was killed in battle not long after. Mazzog was devistated. Though she told people Krash died “Because he never practiced his damn footwork”, she really blamed herself for bringing him there in the first place. She deserted before the end of the war, sacrificing a place in the new Daggerfall Covenant's army.

Left with very little, Mazzog briefly tried to pick up adventuring, and had some success exploring ruins for old magical items, until a hammer shattered her kneecap. It was healed with magic, but her leg was never quite the same after that. She decided that she would rather take on a slightly safer career, and became a town guard for the Daggerfall Covenant. She was well respected, and did some good investigative work, though she never made it very far in the ranks. When the Three Banner War broke out, she spoke against it vehemently, decrying anyone who supported the war. She was fired from the guard for ‘insubordination’ though she still questions whether or not it had to do with her political opinions.

It was around this time Mazzog heard of the wood orcs in the south, and made plans to travel to them, to see if they were any different than her old clans. She arrived in Valenwood and was greeted by disappointment. She felt that the wood orcs had the same flaws as the orcs in the north, if not more. She felt more at home with the bosmer, though she is still wary of anything Dominion. She’s taken on jobs in the area, but has yet to find a place to retire.
