Translation
"Burned my hands. Heals said not to use them for a week. I'm writing with my feet. Degala kept patting my head. Wren was badmouthing Wrae. ((can't remember why Theo was mad too I think he was mad at Wren?)). The noticeboard said the water is poison. Theo asked us to get vampire dust, mudcrab chitin, and elf cap mushrooms. He had a boyfriend who died because he was a vampire."

Two letters are glued to the next pages.

"Keez,

The hows fund iz mor than I can carree I have never seen so much gold in on plays

The babys all no how to wak and tak now and Alyeezandr letz strangerz care for them

Yoo shud visit we mis yoo

-Rat"

There are some flowers local to Vulkwasten dried and pressed under the first letter. The broken seal from the second letter is pushed back together and glued next to the flowers despite the damage it causes the book. It depicts an ornate key.

"My most precious sweetroll, Riz,

I do hope that this letter finds you in good health. I have been learning to read and write, and I hope you will do the same so we don't have to relay our words through a messenger. We don't want the whole Green or gods forbid, all of Anvil, to know our bank records. We are still a pack of mostly vulnerable children, after all. Besides, you must compile your adventures into a volume for us to read for generations. Find a gullible man to teach you without charge - it's a wonder how convincing one can be in the right corset and half-closing one's eyes just so. Or use your infamous kitten eyes and droopy ears, if you've not grown your curves yet. You will soon.

Not one of your sisters want to work in the brothel any more. A terrible Itch nearly wiped that awful place out last month. Our count of a dozen and a half remains the same - four without proper work, two on the docks, two married off (they will not be pitching in to our little project), you in Valenwood, me pouring ale, and two with apprenticeships. The orphanage has been informed of our intentions and have kindly agreed to foster the kits 'til we can house them. I spend each afternoon with them, and the rest visit when they can. You must come back from time to time so that they might remember your face. I promise nobody will try to put any of us up for adoption.

Warm sands, the best half-sister in Anvil,

Alyssandre

P.S. Where is this house? Have you chosen one?"

Translation
"Lulie is pregnant. She wants to be a mage instead of pouring drinks. She gave Wrae and I sweets. Wrae read those letters to me at the warehouse. Alyssandre and Rat wrote them. The youngest litter is at that oprhanage in Anvil I didn't want to go to."

Translation

Translation
"Xithic and I shot at daedra. I was on the ramp. I shot a Hunger in the neck. Thorn went in this portal that was opened with a rock. Wrae aimed for the Hunger from the Fighter's Guild ramp but shot Wren instead. People are talking about going to Anvil for supplies. Should I go? That prissy princess Falen kept Kashya, Wrae, and I up in the Fighter's Guild hall yelling.

"We took a boat to Anvil with the fighters stayed on shore. Wren showed up and asked to see what was in the crate I was selling for Wrae, but I sat on it and said no. I didn't want to believe it was skooma, but it was so obivous. This masked guy showed up and Wren was there and took the skooma out right in front of all of us. I stood between them while Wrae pointed a crossbow at Wren. She accidentally shot my foot - and purposely hit Wren's shoulder this time. Kashya put Wrae in jail but wants to help her. Wren is really mad and lying to everyone. Theo has a hole in his stomach and feels like he has to choose between Wren and Wrae."

Dil is cursed. Zithik is cursed. I saw Zithik agen today, neer the tavern. I had to snitch. I feel bad beecus what if he isn't reely cursed? But the gards hav to know. Snitching is bad. It gets yoo hurt. They'll cut Zithik's hed off if they catch him. I can't watch that agen.

Alyssandre is reely mad at me for going to Srennja. We fot all nite. We wer kwyet so people didn't wake up, but wispering makes your throat raw too.

A lyon folowd me from Srenja. I named him Arrow. Theeo helped me name him. I'm going to get Ren to help me train him cuz he steels food. I reely like him. He runs so fast. Only he keeps likking me wich is gros.

This entry is in someone else's neat, loopy hand. The i's are dotted with hearts. There's a list of herbs for a vampire-curing potion tucked in here.

My Sweetroll,

I'll likely have passed out before I can admit this to you, but I've gone through your little diary again. I'm not sorry.

This storm is too frightening to stay awake through, as is the thought of you being in so much danger all the time. If you're hearing voices in your head still, you MUST visit a healer. I found your list and I think I know what it's for. I know you hate to seem the craven, but the ground is full of honorable fools, and you've a good ninety years ahead if you smarten up. Don't waste that. Your Zithik and your Dil are dangerous men, and they're already dead.

Mara is indeed cruel to you, if that's what your Qa'Dosi looks like, and it seems we have the same taste in altmeri men. We are going to make the sacred oath that is a pinky swear that no mer will ever come between us when I wake. I know our Adsomar won't, but this is going to happen time and again. We're both going to like the same guy from time to time. Remember that if our blood bond is steel, then passing thoughts of kissing a mer are mere cotton. Still, you'll be happier if you simply accept that you're growing up and these little crushes are part of that.

Keep drawing. Keep writing. Work on your spelling.

I love you.

Some basic rules of spelling are jotted down in a postscript, taking up the rest of the page. The next is in Keys's writing.

I kissed a vampire and fot seven daydra at once and also I'm pregnant.

I'll write more convinsing lys than that if yoo keep snooping.

Spoiler
I saw Dil today. He was in the hiding tree. Sed he was lost. Areeeta Aree-etta The charm lady from the prison didn't snitch. I still need vampire dust, bloodgrass, and argonian blood. And another look at Ma's journal, I think. He tryd a bunch of stuff. I wanted to hug Dil. I want to make it all ok. I feel like it won't be. He dyd before turning. If he gets cured, he probablee dys agen. At leest he won't be Molag Bal's that way, I think.

Arrow hunts for himself. He brings me ded skeevers sometimes. Maybe I can sell them.

Theeo sed he was leaving for Syro Cyrodiil (why two i's?). He sounded like he was talking about seeing Toree. He sed he wasn't, and I followed him outside of town some. That was dumb. I could have got lost or eeten by a sensh, and rite after I promisd I'd behave. I met his not-boyfrend, Naseer wen I came back. They kised rite in front of me. If it was anyone but Theeo I mite have watched. I know that's weerd.

Wen I went luking for Arrow, I found Seriduril and Ren insted. Ren got strangled. Estra heeld her. I helped. She was also scrachd on her face. The claw marks almost matched mine. I tried to point it out to Kashya and Seriduril but they were busy taking. Kashya wants to kil whooever did it.

There was no bite but I gave Ren cure poshun. I didn't see how big Dil's hands were. I was luking at his lips when we talked...what's wrong with me? Adsomar must have been rite about vampires. Yoo want to kis them and it makes yoo get too close to ther mouth.

I want another hug.

There was a training eksersise with the Gild today after we cleered some skeevers frum the clinic. I hate skeevers. I beet Maza twice at fiting.

Spoiler
He sed he wud see about getting bloodgrass. And that I wud probablee get vampire dust just from wating around for another fite. That scares me, but it's probablee troo.

Ren is feeling ok. She can't tak, but she's ok. She sed a vampire did it, and it's ded now. It's not Dil. I'm glad of that. I was so woreed it was him.

Alee told me crushes end after a wile. I went to his hows the other day and we takd about a lot of stuff. He's reely nice. I was rite about my gut feeling I cud trust him taking about Dil.

I managed to stay only reesonablee hi tonite. I mite have been using moon shuger for the rong reesons this time. I feel beter aneeway. Estra thot I was making up eksuses to tuch Adsomar wen I thot he was choking. Dus she think I'm that imatcher? I feel like I need to prove I'm not to her. I want to be more like her.

I tryd some magic today and did beter then yoosual. I broke a cup tho.

Saw Ray awake today. I told her wat I saw Benee do. I won't rite it here. She sed all the same stuf evereone els did about crushes. I didn't tak about Dil. It dusn't feel good to hold bak like that, but she was woreed enuf about Srenja.

I bought (that should sound like 'o' or 'uh', not 'ou') a book of poetry today. The gramer is weird, but it helps to look at the words. Poets seem like reely sad people.

Ray and Benee got caught. Benee is a swit. I'm taking care of his dog, tho. Shuger didn't ask for this.

Ray almost got banished. Ren joined the gards. She thinks Ray will kill her when she gets out. I love Ren, but I woree that she'll abyoos abuse her power. I have to be careful what I tell her from now on.

I need to get the house faster.

Levis told me I should draw more. I got another book for that, which I'm glad of. I tried to paint the moons like he sugested, but it just looked like fingernail clippings on a blue background. I played more with the paint later. I accidentally spilled salt on the page wile the paint was still wet and it looked really nice, like stars or snow.

I need to buy some more salt.

-

J'Var is going to join the Fighter's Guild. He's tiny and thinks he can take on a werewolf. I can't wait to beat him up like I did Maza. Beating up older boys is almost as fun as eevsdropping. Another week and I can take off this stupid cast and see how good I've really got.

I told Adsomar once that he should spar, too, but he's probably afraid of getting a hair out of place. I wonder how he'd react to getting a mudball thrown at him. Maybe I should put Ada up to it. Or not. She would snitch. Fena got hi and acted the way I did with him the other night. I told her off, but I think she was too hi to really notice. It makes it a milyon times as embarasing, seeing someone act the way you did on moon sugar.

Benee's dog is really sweet. I want to steal her from him, but that would be like someone stealing me from Ray. Maybe that's too close. It would be like stealing me from... point is, I won't.

-

Spoiler
Cirlin got poysoned. A woman in a spriggan mask did it. She was trying to make an atronark.

Add that to the ever-growing list of things I'm worried about. My thoughts keep going back to Dil. I haven't seen him in a wile. Is he even still around? There's no point finding a cure if he's not safe and alive okay I don't know what to call it. He is nyther of those things.

Estra's a guard now. I wore the dress she got me. Adsomar liked it. He wore this suit with a girly circlet and we went to Estra's house. He smiled. Why did he have to smile? I got a crush all over again. I told him that, too. I might not have, had it been in the tavern, but I feel like I can say almost anything around Estra. I think I know for sure I'll never feel that way about a girl, because Estra fed us pastries and tea and she's so pretty and composed, but I don't get butterflies over her.

Mister Propryety asked Estra how old she was. 38. She told me before, when she told me she loves Seriduril, but her questions were for him. They were like a siringe meant to draw the right anser out. I have so much to learn from her.

The lines are more lopsided on this page than most of the others, and the sizes of the letters vary more wildly.

I'm the new aktor for the guards. They fake arest me to join. It's ok with Terath; I can stay in the Fighter's Guild. Relyza's a guard now. Ren at least convinced Seriduril to start him as an inishee-it. No keys, no cufs. I hope he gets fired. He tries to act like he has the high ground, but he won't apologyz for calling Ray a sk that name. If he treats prisoners that way, he won't last long. Right?
Spoiler

Zithik made Adsomar really suspishus today. He's talking about restoring a balance in the town for Hircine, which I think settles it. He's a wolf. I feel like I should tell the guards, but would I get in trouble after knowing all this time? He'll get found out anyway. Should I tell them to protect myself? What if he says something about me ayding him when he gets caught?

Ren and Terath visited Theeo. Ren said he's happy where he is and I can vizit soon. Vulkwasten reminds him of Toree. They're saving Borisa. Is Borisa Boris or do we have two now?

When I went to tell Seriduri like they asked, this guy, Peroon, was fighting him. He lost and started hitting himself, so I stepped in and calmed him down. I felt like a real clanmother. He ate coins, then came in the tavern with Beth later and started eating a mug. Beth did this spell to make sweetrolls look like coins. I really like her.

I also really like jaga.

Fuk that it's morning now I hate jaga so much.

Gilin arested me today. It wasn't fair. I was hung over. Hangovers are the worst. I'm only using moon sugar for a good long time. Seriduril said maybe about getting him to do it over.

Spoiler
Zithik wants me to put a mark on Adsomar when we spar. He's on thin ice. I didn't say who he was, but I told Ren about him.
He said Arrow would get lazy if I give him moon sugar, though, so I'll have to remember that. I should consider a spot for him when I get the house. Where do lions usually like? He's more khajiit than lion. I'll get him something warm.

I finally made sweetbread for everyone. Ren, Adsomar, Gilin, J'Var, and Disenil got some before the big orc, Luz, got a hold of it. If I learn more resipees and get Arrow to hunt me bigger stuff, maybe we can get rich off of just him. Him, Gilyn, and a couple others are going to be a boat crew. The captain kept calling Relyza a sassy cunt. He didn't seem to care. I guess that means my favorite swer won't have much impact on him if I need to give him a really good insult. I know he used to be a companion, and I know Alyssandre has spent a night with him, but I can't use those against him because I have nothing against hors in geniral. I can't use his size, ither. That just makes me hate his guts more.

I hugged Levis while I was drunk. Which is a shame - I want to remember my first hugs with people. Just another reason to never have something stronger than moon sugar rum again.

I was high the first time I hugged Ray, I think. Same with Adsomar. I honestly can't remember the first time I hugged Theeo. I feel like we met yeers ago, even though it was more like a couple months. I hugged Ren a few times - first one during the seej, which is a blur - but the other day before they left for Borisa was the first with Terath. It was a group hug. Those are my favorite. They're so warm. Estra got me to hug her to shield her from Luz's eating. I didn't mind. That's what baths are for, and it was worth it to hug her.

This guy came into the tavern and started insulting Luz, then threatened to 'put me down' after I made Estra proud insulting him. Estra and Gilin jumped on him like sensh tigers on a lean deer. He called himself better than us and Estra lost it. Gilin redeemed himself since this morning. He's a good guard.

A dunmer came in for healing just after Fats. He'd been attacked by a werewolf. His name is Ilen and he's 200. Fukken lifespans. Why do I have to be atrakted to mer? This is a mammoth-sized pile of bullshit. I'd take a poshun to stop feeling like this if I didn't want cubs some day.

Gilin had his second try at fake-arresting me today. He did really good, and then we sparred. Accidentally hurt my broken arm but I also got some good hits in.

Cantoes said he can't do Fighter's Guild work. They probably kicked him out for being such a huge bitch. I even made Adsomar laugh during our back and forth with him by calling Cantoes a trol.

I got to watch Adsomar and Gilin spar. They're both kind of bad at it. Adsomar joined the Guild. The trol fight is tonight and he's going. I thought it would be later. That kind of ruined watching him get takkeld. I made him promise me he wouldn't do anything stupid. I hope he takes that seriously. I can't go, so I guess I'll rest my arm and play with Sugar to take my mind off things.

I couldn't stay away from it. I brought medikal stuff and helped like I did in Srenja. Ren was there to do the same.

The troll was a test. We didn't know there were two trolls. Did Beth know? We killed them both and I think only Afer got hurt, but we failed the test.I guess I should write this part down: The job was to kill the troll without fighting it. We argued for maybe an hour before even settling on a plan - which relied heavily on Maza. Our mage. He's a good mage, but I've said it to him before: What if something interfears with the magic use? He's just scrawny.
Spoiler
Ren called him "her Stripes" at one point. How did she feel when he was a vampire? She said I can tell her anything, but should I talk to her about Dil? She's kind of a snitch. She wanted me to be a paid snitch. I already mentioned him to the guards once, but I don't want to remind any of them he exists. I'd say I wish Theeo were here, but he was also a guard (still, one of his hugs would make me feel so much better like they always did). This is going to be hard enough as it is, and I've got nowhere with the cure.

Magic is hard to rap my head around. I can barely conjer a proper-sized snowball, and there are khajiit who study it and can do things like sumon weapons. Elves get even longer to figure it out. I want to learn to at least close a wound with it, but what if I mess it up? Then again, Alyssandre is starting to litral literally play with fire and she's doing ok. She always keeps a basin of water on hand for it, or practices when we swim together. It looks like ofensiv spells, mostly. She wants to be able to turn sand to glass by the end of next month. I tried reading her book about it and that seems too ambishus. Who would she even fight? Fire in the Valenwood is a bad idea, but she does still want to go back to Anvil really bad. Nobody's stopping her. Maybe she'll bend when I get the house. We're so close to being able to just buy one, but I need to go look at the places I can afford. Everyone is going on trips right now, so that leaves me waiting for the opportune time.

Arrow tried to eat some troll today. He didn't like it. It's nice to have him around to help me out - I'll have to get him something that a senche-lion would like to eat. I need to get more treats for Sugar, anyway. I owe her for tonight.

My rist hurts. At least when my cast is off, I can alternate hands when I'm thinking this much and need to get it on paper.

Coffee is bad. I. Can. Not. Sleep. No jagga. No coffee. At least coffee tastes awful. Jagga was kind of good.

My cast is off, but I didn't get to kick any ass today. I'll have to challenge people to spars tomorrow if I can manage to sleep at some point. I'd use moon sugar but I'm not sure if having both moon sugar and coffee in such a close time would do funny things to me. I'm relying too much on drinks and sugar lately.

Everyone kept yelling "Language!" at me today. I didn't even use all the swears I know. Someone said it's espeshuly bad coming from a lady. What does that have to do with it?

I climbed the middle tree today, only for some bosmer to tell me to get off of it. We argued, then he said something bad about khajiit. I don't want to write it down. I want to club him with one of the broken branches he was so concerned about. I follow the Pact for the most part and I do just fine, except the time I threw a knife and it landed in a tree instead of on the target.

We went to some Alid ruins with Maza. Adsomar was there. He got burnt and wouldn't let me or anyone else heal him imeediately, the stubborn swit. Didn't want to take off his armor. I didn't want to ask Maza - his magicka was needed for handling traps. AND Adsomar was going to deprive me of the chance to see if I can use restorashun magic! At least I got to try when we got out. I ran out of magicka and he carried me back when I fainted. I thought I would enjoy that more. I didn't even enjoy seeing him squirm when I convinced him to get his shirt off. I was just tired and fed up. Does this mean my crush is over, or was I just upset by seeing my friend get hurt? He was arguing with me all night, but he's still my friend for now. Maybe something is bothering him. Anyway, I guess Ren and Alee were both right about crushes.

I helped Gilin and J'Var at the clinic, too. I ot to ask Alee if I can take the test and get paid for this.

Disinil touched a magic well. Alid wells are used to collect magicka for fast use. What did they use that much magicka for all at once? The traps? There were a lot of traps. I found a book in their language. I wish we didn't damage the ruins more - they were gorjus and Alid stuff is fassinating

Everyone getting hurt has me worried about how we'll do with the dwemer ruin, but at least I know what to expect now. I should tell Terath all about it soon. I still want a look at that jernal Beth gave him, too.

Caught five fish from the ocean today. Two bass.Three halibut. Terath bought one. I traded the other two fish for the labor of cooking the last two and shared with Gilin.

Ray told me she (this part is scribbled out). I shouldn't have written that, but it's in here now. I'm already ears-deep in trouble if anyone reads any of this. I don't want to get her in trouble, too, but I'm really mad and need to vent. She gave me 'you don't know what I've been through' line, as if we haven't all been through some rough shit. Everyone and their dog who's ever done skooma talks like that. Like their situation is so uneek and their pain is somehow special. Worse than anyone else's. It's stupid. I feel stupid, too, for not realizing what she did. Nobody just just giv(more furious scribbling).

This is a waste of ink, but it feels so good.

The middle of the page is a big blob of scribbles. She pressed hard with the quill. The lines warp the next few pages a little bit.

I tried to shoot to blow off steam after arguing with Ray, but then other stuff happened. Apparently the training dummy I lean on while watching things has a name. Fernando. The town was empty so Gilin and I looked for people. We found Levis and the creepy human.

I mentioned to Terath that we should prepare better for the dwemer ruins. The jernal is in the Guild Hall. I hope I can get a thuro look at it.

I met a blind mer. I can't remember his name. It sounded like Onion. He lost his guide, which is worrying. After we made sure he was okay, Terath asked me to write down what I learned about the Alid ruin. Maybe I'll paste that here if I get to keep it.

Ray was 100 short and it was only the first payment. I threw in the necklace I looted from the ruin. Now it's 70. The guy gave me an extra day, but it sounds like we're going to lose the warehouse. Am I really doing this for her? I'm already working so hard for the house. I can't just let her be homeless and broke, but I have a lot on my own plate, too. I can't think of anyone else who might help beyond what they're already doing for her while she's in the cells.

I was reminded of Theeo today. I tried writing a letter. There's so much to say, but I could barely get past "I miss you". Everything I could tell him would either worry or depress him. He went through more than enough of both here and Ren said he's happy now, so I don't want to get him back in the habit. Have I taken up his mantle of Village Worrier now? I think I have. I wish he were here to share it.

Ayleid ruins are popular. I sined a contract to go to one, then went to another on Auridon with Maza and lots of people. Disinil rode around on Adsomar's shoulders. I want to do that, too, but he's still burnt. I'll spar him when he's better. I won a bet on wether I'd get injured or not, which covers the 70. Maza found a prety emrald crab statchoo with orange eyes. I hope it's something interesting.

After we got back, I saw Zithik with no mask. Ren and Loosha were there. Arrow helped fight them while I hid on the cliff with my bow. I didn't want to accidentally shoot one of the womer, so I didn't shoot at all.

The shy little bosmeri girl I met wants to be a guard. She has a pretty name, but I don't remember it. She was already in uniform while doing the test. I ran, and jumped off the Fighter's Guild ramp. I bumped my head on a rock and got a mild konkushun. Ren took care of me, and took care of Arrow since he needed a cure disease potion after fighting Zithik.

I woke up with Alyss cudling me. I don't know when she heard, but it's nice to have her around, as crazy as she drives me sometimes.

I'm going crazy having to just lay (lie? I don't know which is correct) here in the clinic.

Nira came back. She saw a priest of Arkay for her cure. It's expensive. She told me that the honurific Dar (male) or Daro (female) stands for thief, or quick of hand and tung. I could be Keys'Daro. Or Riz'Daro, but I hate the name Riz. I thought about that a bit - should I tell Relyza why I hate it if he calls me Riz again? I feel like he might just brush it off or say something mean.

I went down even though I shouldn't have so early. I didn't do much, though. Just drank warm milk with honey and talked to people. I paid off the rest of Ray's first instalmint, but I don't know where I'll come up with the rest. How many more will there be? She's going to lose the warehouse. I know she is. I can't handle this much work if I get injuries that put me out for days.

Speaking of injuries, Kwin got busted up pretty bad from falling off the ramp. I could see his bones. He'll live, but it was pretty bad. I was okay when I saw it, but remembering the image made me throw up a few times later.

Rasad got arrested for harassing Amay. He has a lot of issues from being in the Leejun, but that doesn't excuse the way he talks to womer. It sounds like the Imperial City fight was a million times worse than our siege. Rasad keeps staring off when he brings it up. I don't know whether to feel bad for him or not.

The inserted page ends here

I'm not going to the dweemer ruins. The traps are too much. I'm scared for those who will pass the test next week. My stomach feels like it's eating itself. Not eating itself - I know what that feels like, and this isn't it. More like it's tying itself into a big ball of knots and moving up to my chest. Sometimes I think about the endless pit traps and feel like I'm the one falling. And this is just the first day of two weeks of worrying like this. I really am going to go crazy, aren't I?

My shooting is bad. I need to practice more. I got dizy and had to stop. Beth offered to let me help her figure out the box, though. She also almost blinded me with her healing spell, but I felt a lot better after.

Stort Oor means 'large ear' in Nordic. Rasad taught me that. He's a redguard with an Imperial ma and Nord father. Interesting mix, but I guess my Vulkwasten family is kind of the same. I have a lot of "moms" now.

I think Adsomar likes Estra. It'd be weird for me if they got together, considering I used to like him that way and Estre's one of those moms, but they might be a better match than Estra and Levis. They'd balance each other more. I don't think of Levis as really needing as much balancing as those two do.

Amaythayra. That was her whole name. I might just write Amy so I don't have to use so much ink. She needs to be more asertive. However, she seems to like Rasad back. I think. Why am I writing about who wants to kiss on who? I keep telling myself I'm not interested in this kind of stuff. But still, Estra deserves a mer who can make her happy, and Adsomar is a good guy, deep down. Even if he is stubborn and jujmental.

Spoiler
Thinking about it alone with nothing but a sleeping Sugar, a cozy fire, and warm furs makes me want to see Dil again. I want to know if he's okay. I want to hold hands and hear about his life before he got bit. I still want to kiss him. I barely know him. Why do I feel this way about him when it was so easy to almost shoot Zithik, who I tended even after a really bad argument during the siege and protected for too long while he was disguised as Kazar? Even my negative feelings towards Cimber only started after his death, coloured by the rumors I heard and the other sightings of cursed folk. Maybe it's because he's so young. I see him and wonder "what if it were me?". I don't know what I would do. Find a cure? Ask for help? Get killed? Probably get killed. I should stop thinking about it before I give myself nightmares. I need kwality rest so my head will get better.

Theo came back. Said he'd be back once in a while for a look around. I cried a little when I saw him, and when he left again. He doesn't want everyone knowing he's back. I have Estre, and to some extent, Wren, for the talks like we used to have, but I still miss him.

I have decided that I need a clanmotherly speech for cured folk. Maybe that's a little optimystic, but what's wrong with that? I spend a lot of time preparing for the worst case sinareeo, why not prepare for the best case, too?

Welcome back. You have a new chance at life, and I expect you to live it to the fullest.

You may feel guilty, disliked, and alone. That's normal. The solution to the first two problems is to atone for anything you did while afflicted. Help folk. Be kind. Strive to prove yourself. As for the third? You are not alone. I'll be here for you, even if nobody else will. Even if you leave town, which is a valid choice and yours to make - I won't be the one to shoo you off - you are always welcome to write to me.

Needs a satisfying closing line, but I've been sitting here chewing up half my quill trying to think of it.

It's so quiet here. I'm going to miss this warehouse. There's a little spot where the forest kanapee is thin enough that you can see a few stars.

Kumquat got hurt in Jun's ruin. Everyone got 2300 gold. It doesn't sound worth it. There was a flesh colosus and zombees and a guy who wanted to wear Disinil's skin or something. It'd be pretty skimpy on anyone but another bosmer. Does it even count as clothing if you wear another person's naked skin? I just grossed myself out.

Adsomar is still burnt. Estra said not to let anyone else heal him, but I offered anyway, and only just remembered that I did. At least he's letting someone do it. He said he might go to the ruins, depending on the tests. Is it too cruel to hope he fails? He's still preshus to me for some reason. More so than other mer. It isn't a crush. I'm not IN love. I just love him more than most of my friends, I guess. Picking favorites won't be good for my kareer as a clanmother.

I tried bartending. Made 250 plus a tip for me and Rasad by offering hugs with the drinks. Plus I got to hug Afer. I still haven't heard many stories from him. Maybe I need to convince him to drink all that mead he buys for it. The tavern is boring work. At least Loosha didn't seem to mind that I put myself behind the counter.

Beth is an amazing fighter. She almost dances instead. She fought Afer after he fought this handsome human who was with an orc named Quiver. I think his name was Garrik. I patched the human up, but I don't think he's staying in town long.

J'Var and Disinil fought, too, but I didn't catch much of it. Beth and Afer were in the way.

Loolee is going to have the baby any time now. My first thought when I saw her was to get Alyssandre, but she wasn't in her room. She must be working today. I should let her know, anyway. She's delivered babies before. I've helped with deliveries, but she's done it more than I have.

Someone came and said plants in the woods are dying in paths. We found a lady in the woods who was cursed. Not vampirism, but similar - she absorbs the life of things around her. Ren was so ready to just kill her. Even Seriduril wanted to. Beth opened a portal after the whole thing. Turns out Arrow is afraid of them. What's he been through? I wish he could talk.

The cursed lady knows who cursed her. She wants to protect them. That hits kind of close to home.

Spoiler
But, what I'm trying to do won't violate the Pact. Not unless there's bloodgrass in the Valenwood. Would I deliberately break the Pact for him? Ren says spriggans and senche attack the town if you do that. I don't want that to happen, of course, but the town is already in danger when a vampire comes by. Maybe I should arrange a meeting spot outside of town with Dil next time I see him. The beach is too popular. The Ayleid ruin is too tempting. Maybe the cave where Benny was caught, by the river? Except something nasty always makes a home of caves. Then again...

No, Dil isn't 'something nasty'. His curse is. He's just a scared boy who died tragically. Still, maybe I should find a spot along the river anyway. There's plenty of stuff other than me around if he gets hungry, and I won't be cornered in a tree that way. Plus, I can scout for someplace it'll be hard to spy. I'll take Arrow out to do just that.

Spoiler

Tears stain this page. The ink runs in places.

Theo is a vampire. He has Dil with him. Neera said a 'sire' mentors the one they turn. Theo didn't turn Dil. He wouldn't. I believe what Dil told me in that barn - that he was attacked, probably during S'ren-ja's siege, and I don't want to think about who the vampires that did it were. That's the most terrifying part about vampires. They still function as people. They still want to fit in, and they put us all at risk that way. Neera even thought her life was better as a vampire than living as my mother and sisters did. For all I know, someone back home could be going through the same. It's not the sort of thing you write in a letter.

The afflicted are at their most dangerous when you love them. I just can't seem to resist danger, can I? Even writing this is putting myself at risk. Maybe I should blot out all the names. Maybe I should just burn this journal, or bury it somewhere well outside of the Green. I'm starting to run out of pages, anyway. I should start a new book.

It started normal enough. I watched the guards practice solving murders today. Kashya was the "victim". I gave a couple good answers myself during the class. Then he spoke. I thought it was a happy occasion, but it wasn't. We assumed he was under the ramp, but Maza had that invisibility spell. Is it a vampire-specific thing? Maza did it after being cured. I don't think I ever saw Theo do magic, but he's old. He could have learned it and then learned better than to do it much. He ran off into the woods with Ren. There's a 5,000 gold bounty on Theo's head. If he were wise, he wouldn't come back to the Valenwood, but he isn't. I used to assume he was just because he was old. Am I surpassing the wisdom of a mer who's lived past his natural lifespan?

Seriduril cuddled me. Even as a written sentence, that just looks off, but he did. He found me crying in the hiding tree and held me. Ray says he's evil. She only thinks that because he's a guard. However, he broke Estre's heart. He wanted to kill the cursed plant-killing lady. I don't know what happened with the Spriggan Lady, who was only fifteen. I assume she was killed. I don't know if it was by his blade or his command, or someone else's. She was making a flesh atronarch - I don't want to know for sure. But he also comforted me when I was grieving for Theo. He bought me a jagga shot. I know I said no more, but this merits it. He knew that. He's trying his best to do what's right. Who am I to judge, considering my own situation? He tries to be as good as he can be. That's all you can ask of anyone.

Ren came back and got arrested. She told me Theo was the one to strangle her, not just some vampire. They put a magic-proof blindfold on her so he can't thrall her. She said he's in Cyrodiil in a ruin, and that I can still visit. Which is crazy, but I've done ekwally crazy things. I want to do even crazier things than visit him. I've repeatedly written as much. Both of them in one place. I wonder what he'll think when he figures out I have a crush. He told me in his letter that men "aren't worth shite", but he'd go to Coldharbour for Toree. I might as well admit to myself that it's a huge factor in wanting to cure Dil. Maybe not out loud, but here.

Estra had something wrong with her. Too much magicka in her - her tatoos hold it in. Levis, Heals, and I helped Beth with some complicated spell to help her. There were runes and a crystal and it was all light and noise. Gilin is sick, too, but the magicka thing seemed like a bigger emergency. I was supposed to find him something to wear, but I just threw a blanket on him and then helped Estra. I passed out after that. Should I try joining the mage's guild, too? People have offered to show me the basics. I don't know if I could understand Beth's lessons. The way she speaks is like another language sometimes. Maybe someone else could teach me.

This half-written letter is pasted carefully in several torn pieces into the last page of Keys's present journal. The bottom right corner is burnt away, but there was only white space there anyways.

Dear Theo,

Thank you for visiting. It made me so happy to see you again.

You told me once that you worry about everyone. I'm falling into the same habit - how do you manage? It seems like every time something happens, I end up thinking about that and a tanjenchaly related incident and then just worrying twice as much. I know the best way is to solve the problem, but not everything is so easily solved. Plus, I don't want to describe all our usual troubles since I don't want to make you worry even more. We can handle it like we always do.

The Fighter's Guild is relying a lot more on teamwork lately, and I'm hoping that filters into the rest of the town and sticks. Moons know we all need it. Only the best of us are going on the next job the week after next. I opted out even though I'm still going to train with everyone. It's going to be really scary, but I guess that's why Beth offered so much gold to retrieve the relic we're

Afer told me about Dunerippers today. They're like crocs, but live in sand and burro into it. I asked what the hardest apecks predator he faced was. He said a mantikora. They're from Craglorn. They look like wamasoos mixed with scorpions and are as big as a snugpod, with an extra set of hands that have thumbs. They use boulders and trees for weapons. I don't know if I want to fight one, but I want to see one some day. Maybe from a nice safe distance.

The cursed lady came into town and killed part of the heart tree. Wren picked bark off of it, and Seriduril kept swearing. I think today was the first time I ever heard him swear. There's this girl I've seen in the tavern, and her dad volunteered to give the blood needed for the cure. 4 pints. It's a lot, for a bosmer. I couldn't watch. I went to the hiding tree with Nira and we talked some.

People were turning into trees when I came back. It's Y'ffre's wrath. They stopped when the cursed lady was killed. The bosmeri father is in the clinic, but I haven't visited or checked on him yet. I don't know him, but I'm still concerned.

Ren was pretty shaken up over the whole thing. She said she wanted to be alone. Changing one's mind over following the Pact is a big deal. I wonder if (there's a blot of ink here) is clouding her judgement lately? I know I can't stop thinking about it, either.

Symbols are still too on the nose. I need better ones.

The spacing on this page is a little wider than the last. The journal smells like lemons.
O.M. popped in today. Had a healer with him. I think they might both forget it ever happened.
My traps aren't working well. I need to move them.
Perhaps I'll go visit him. I can't get away just yet.
Also need to:
Got turned around on way back. 2 wild senche blockd path. Hid on beach.
Rent a tavern room. Ray's warehouse will be gone soon.
Missed my appointment. S.K. will be mad, but she's always mad at me.
Buy some more moon sugar. I'm running low.
Y.M. will be there. Did he leave me the secret admirer note? O.M. said it's possible.
Spar more. Shoot more. I've been too lax with my training.
O.M's niece isn't handling his condition well of late. This way isn't working. It's making my journal smelly and I can't read back to keep it making some small amount of sense.

I finally got to spar again today. The Bucket Night is a good teacher. I fought J'Var while the others ran the practice course. He did well against me - I wasn't expecting him to be so good with a broken arm. Does that mean he's getting better, or I need a hell of a lot of practice?

We both fought BN. together after that. I should really learn more Tagra - maybe JV could teach me the words he's most likely to use if we fight together again. BN swung his broom at me and I jumped over it, then kicked my sword back into my hand.

The course was fun. We failed and set off the "spiders", but it was fun.

There's writing in invisible ink between the lines again. Some overlaps doodles of trees and senche. It's much tinier than the regular text. This particular type of ink takes a specialty spyglass to read - the ink isn't visible to the naked eye.

Coded-but-major Spoilers
J. sold me this ink. Good stuff. I can read back with the lens. I've hidden that elsewhere, separate from the box and the book. Asked for it openly and called my journal a diary (I hate that word. Journal sounds better.) - I'm hoping hiding in plain sight will work here. I can just say it's to keep SK from snooping.

OM is, in fact, YM's father. I would have never guessed. R told me, though. Not sure how to feel now. OM never asked for this condition, but what is it doing to YM? It's tearing the rest of us apart more than enough. I don't even know where to begin prosessing this. I just want to see YM again. I don't think YM left a note any more. I think I just wanted it to be that way so I could...

The metafore falls apart there, doesn't it? I just don't want to deal with OM and his condition. I want YM to...what do I want out of him? I want him to be happy. I want to see him feel alive again. I want to know him better. See him get strong - he's so delicate and timid. Would I still like him if he wasn't? That wouldn't be so bad. I want to get over my infatchewashun. Watch him find someone else and grow as a person and give him beyond-my-years advice when I'm an old clanmother and he comes to visit my village. Does he like kids? He can pay it forward by advising mine with his long lifespan and life experience. How many of my elvish friends would do that for me? Would it hurt or help to see the next generashun of khajiit living on without me?

It'd be easier to just forget about all of it. Maybe I should move back to Anvil or go to Elsewhere and just write to R. We can use this ink or something for planning hists hysts jobs like she mentioned after she told me, and I can get a place anywhere but Anvil or the Green, and we can just agree to never talk about that part of our past again. Except, she said she'll go to the Ooz if she leaves? Is that true? I just don't know. It'd be hard to leave, but it's hard to stay, too.

I wish I never met OM.

I'll start with good news. I beat Afer up today.

I thought I was done for when he had me by the throat, but I used my claws on him. Then I used my infamous kitten eyes to make him think his punch hurt (he was going easy I'm sure), and I kicked him in the face. He gave in at that point.

Before that, the weird skwatting lady, Meerkan, gave me a turtle shell. I hugged her later.

Someone got killed by a werewolf. The wolf is dead. Grey and white - not Zithik. I'm disappointed. I met a mer who was friends with Theo. I hugged him, but I don't know if it helped any.

This would be a good time to visit home and see the babies. Maybe everything will blow over by the time I get back.

This crumpled scrap of paper will presumably get pasted into Keys' journal at some point, probably directly following the previous entry.

I was going to hunt, then this khajiit I've seen around came into the tavern with the same curse as the other lady - the plant-killing curse. She had a gem that was destroyed by - I don't know her name. A mage. She just shattered it with Seriduril's sword, I think? I was hiding behind a rock in case it ecksploded. Have I called anyone else S yet? This is a different piece of paper. I can't read back. I don't even have this is scribbled out, but I don't think I'll need it tonight anyway.

I asked the lady's sister, Nyom-something, a lot of questions when the others weren't getting anywhere. I think everything she told me was a lie, except maybe the resentment for her dead sister. Also the soup. The soup was nice.

I'm almost completely lost now. I went climbing and nobody came and got me before the portal closed. I guess they thought I wasn't joking about telling Arrow where I am and leaving me behind. This is not the way I wanted to see more of Reaper's March. This is also not the way I wanted to take a break from Vulkwasten's insanity. I sort of remember the way to and from S'ren-ja, but I'm not sure which way I need to head. I think I'll go towards Reaper's and look at the stars for reference, first, then get some sleep and head out in the morning.

I guess Anvil will have to wait. Sorry, siblings.

This paper is thicker, flatter, and newer than the last, pasted in as well.

I knew I should've gone east. I need to go home. I need to check in with SK. I miss everybody. The stars and my head said go east.

My feet, then a wagon, then a horse I shared with a nice khajiit lady, all took me south instead. I passed through that town Wraesha walked me to when we met. Does W know I'm missing yet? I should have stayed north and waited, but I'm here now. I also went to Rawl'Kha and past. It's like old times, before Vulkwasten, except hotter and with more khajiiti. The food is great - I just had jerky for breakfast, but for lunch I had sugar-meat and sweetbread, and then I had this huge pudding later. I didn't know I could eat so much in one sitting. There's so much moon sugar in everything - I've been a little high for most of the day. I learned more Tagra. Jobal kajay means bright moons. More kajay means dark moons. Jer vara ma-y means you are childish. I guess that last one applies to me, considering how I wound up here.

I met a clanmother. There was all kinds of food there, too - I tried kwama. It's amazing. I ran into an old friend there. I'll write about that later. Clamother Jo'ara said I might have to join a clan and marry my way to it, or - like Sookee said - start my own. Other clans might not like it if my elf friends join, but she said it could help relations with the Dominion. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about the Dominion. They keep the peace, sure, but what if those Vayled Heritanse mer get their way?

There was a lot of arguing at the...what do I call it? At the Clanmother's meeting. We got on the topic of how one defines oneself. Is 'oneself' even a word? Anyway. It's got me thinking about it now. Who am I? I guess you can tell by reading my journal, somewhat, or talking to me. But do I know? I feel like I do when I have enough moon sugar, but I also feel like I should marry a mer I just met when I'm that high.

A goblin crashed the meeting. His name was Gorm, and he could talk. They shooed him off. I didn't see him again, but that's for the better. He was in full armor, but at least I sort of know what a goblin looks like. Maybe I should try fighting them some time. Do they gang up on you? It sounds like they do. I'll have to ask Terath when I get back.

Spoilers/Invisible Ink

Moons, where do I even start? OM was at the clanmother's meeting. We talked after, and he took me to his house. His physical condition is rough. I so wanted to spend the night in Anvil, but how would I explain that to SK next time I came back and our siblings knew I'd been on the Coast so recently? Even I can't spin a web of lies that intrikit. It wasn't the first thing to come to mind when I decided to stay, though. YM was. I didn't even get to see him before I went.

OM will be in Anvil soon. I worry he's making the same mistake as before. I asked him to keep an eye in case my siblings are still picking pockets. I'm a little worried about the idea of someone with his condition minding my family. They're not all as strong and experienced as I am. At least, I hope they're not experienced with this sort of thing. It would hurt him to hear me say "stay away from my family", but it would hurt them more to make friends and then find out the way I did. I physically could not say it to him, even though it crossed my mind several times last night. All I can hope is that they don't catch the guards' attention, I guess. Or that OM guards the castle instead. I'd love that; I could sneak in and look around again. He knows I wouldn't rob the place.

SW found us. I am no longer mad at him. He wants to atone. It took losing his girl to convince him. Except, the mer I helped to get away from MK the one time was tracking them both. I had to put up an act for a lot of the night after that. Admittedly, I had fun acting. Everyone just wants to see that Argonian play, though. Maybe next time I'm on the Coast, I'll see if there's a theeter in Kvatch. Everyone always said Kvatch is classier, but I never really went.

I can't tell anyone about this. Writing it down makes my heart feel lighter. I'm really glad to have this ink back.

A got really drunk and T beat him up today. I guess he b I won't write that here. It won't matter when he's sober again. I've seen men and mer get like this - booze is as bad as skooma that way, if you let it be. Still, beating the shit out of someone isn't the way to fix it. I don't know how to fix it, but I know for damn sure that nagging, jaw-breaking, and simply telling them to stop isn't the way. I hope they're both alright. I thought about visiting the cells when I heard they locked T up, but he wasn't in there long. I also don't know what I could have said to help him cool off. Come to think of it, I don't know what's going on in T's head most of the time. He's kind of reserved.

I found out the name of the mer whose nose I broke. Steel. He's this one shy girl's dad and said he's having family problems, and that he needs a dock rebuilt. I might help with that even if it doesn't pay. Sounds like I might meet some new people that way. Maybe some people who aren't (you miiight make out 'vam' or part of it here under the scribbling) so naggy or nosy. Or maybe I'll just go back to the clanmother again and meet folk that way. Talk for a bit, take a little break from Vulkwasten, and make friends without getting too involved with their drama. That sounds nice.

Anor wants a baby with Cirlin. I thought Cirlin was younger, but he says she's about the same age as him. It's odd, hearing that. I think of them as peers, but I guess they're adults, technically. Should I defer to them or keep treating them as equals? I think I'll do the latter. An fought in the war. Said it was a lot like the siege - except the war paid, and now they want money back from him. He's drinking, too. Said he's had that problem before. There ought to be a group to support addicted folk or something.

Turns out Falen is missing. I thought he fucked off during the siege, but I guess someone related to him is suspected of lycanthropy. I never liked him, but I really hope it isn't what it sounds like. Nobody deserves that fate.

Invisible Ink

An is in contact with SW. His getting drunk worked to my benefit, I guess. He's also bad at lying, though. There's an art to it - I'm unsure if it's truly teachable after a certain age, especially if you need to lie drunk. Alkahall is truth serum.

OM's birthday is on loredas. What should I get him and how should I send it? I could send it via SW. That's safe, but maybe I'll pay a visit and give it to him late, but in person. I know that's dumb, but it's so nice to see him again. Visiting Anvil might rouse suspicion. I can fool Alyss, though; if I only take her, then I should be fine. I'll make her think I was going back to my old ways for a day, then get yelled at for that. Or maybe go "hunting" and get "lost" again, but lie about it this time. There's still the question of what he would want. Is there such a thing as particularly fine kwarsh? That seems kind of impersonal. If I go late, I have more time to think of something. I'll ask SW for ideas.

I also need to make sure MK doesn't follow. She wants OM's head. Happy fucking birthday indeed. I also suspect she wants to sneak into R and S's houses. She did mention wanting to sneak around when R came to the clinic - drained of blood, which almost gave me a heart attack - and implied missing having done so before. If she wasn't the Marshal, and I trusted her more, maybe I'd offer to let her in on what R and I talked about. But, she's a guard through and through. I sound like W now...she's more stubborn, though. I still like G, S, and Ay. W thinks they're all evil just for being guards.

This chess game of picking and choosing how much to tell who is getting hard to keep track of, but I need all the help I can get. SW, OM, and YM do, too. C knows I know about SW now. She shares my fault of loyalty to people even after they're outed as afflicted. She seems to sympathize with OM. I didn't tell her about YM. It's better if she doesn't know. I wish I could bring her to visit OM, though. Without An. Orcastrayting it would be too risky. Besides, I want to go by myself when I do. The less people are around, the more freely I can talk.

Minor spoilers/visible ink
Went to S's house again. The inn is noisy at night, but I moved my stuff to a room now that W has the warehouse back. I imagine she'll want her space. Maybe I'll just use the room for storage and sleep in the Fighter's Guild Hall for now. Anyway, G, E, and Ad were there too. They were all high. I like S high. He's more relaxed that way. He even gives more hugs. I didn't mean to, but I breathed a little of their smoke, myself. It's different from moon sugar. Still relaxing, but a different feeling. They were saying weirder things than people on moon sugar do. I wonder what I'd say if I deliberately smoked the herbs they had. I don't think any of them would let me.

S wanted advice on how to deal with womer, but I don't know. I think I need my own heart broken a few times before I can really give good answers. I am absolutely not looking forward to that part of growing up.

Ad's leg got busted up and BK broke his ribs in the Dwemeri ruin, but nobody got pushed down a bottomless pit, so things worked out okay I guess. I caught Ad and E kissing in the clinic after catching up and swimming with C. Ad said they just kiss, but E thought otherwise. Why are mer so clueless when it comes to love? Also, where was the stuff I wasn't supposed to hear before S asked me for my clanmotherly advice on the matter? They settled things, though. Sort of.

I stand by my position that Mara is mean. Dibella is, too.

Looking around my room, I've realized that I have a lot of old armor. I've outgrown much of it. Maybe I can sell it or make something out of the old leather. I think I'll do a bit of both.

A Story for OM

Once upon a time, there was a young mer who wandered alone. He was strong and capable, and told himself he didn't like people and he didn't need anyone. But, one day, he found a ruin underground. It was the first one he'd ever set foot in, and it was so beautiful that he couldn't resist the notion of exploring it.

He paused at the entrance, looking for traps like any good adventurer does. When he found the first, he realized that it would take two people to disarm it. He went to the nearest town and begrudgingly sought out someone to help. "No!" said the townsfolk. "It's too dangerous! You'd only die in there, especially with only one other person. Let the Mage's Guild handle it. You're all alone and naive." He figured everyone in that town was stupid, and didn't want to let someone else take the experience away. So, he kept the ruin's location a secret and left.

Disappointed in the first town, he set off to the next-closest settlement to the ruin. It was similar to the first, except there was a nasty flu going around. People were divided on how to deal with it. Some argued for a quarantine so no more would get sick, others argued to pool their money for a bunch of healers to come. Everyone was so busy arguing that nobody seemed to realize they could just do both. Nobody even stopped bickering long enough for him to even mention the ruins, and besides, he didn't want to get sick, so he left there, too.

It was in the third town were he found a Nord. She'd just been fired from her job at the tavern, and was down on her luck, but after letting her drunkenly ramble at him, he found that the woman had a good head on her shoulders. She was strong and a good fighter, too. After a night of drinking and trading adventuring stories, they re-traced the mer's steps to find the place again.

The second town was different by the time they reached it. They had brought the healers in, and things were far more peaceful as the healthy helped the sick however the could. Only, they hired too many healers, and one spare mage in particular was keen on kissing the Nord girl. The two bickered and rough-housed, and the mer thought his expedition was doomed. He was so quick to judge that he didn't realize that the pair were only flirting. He left to drink, and when he came back, he found them in a fistfight. He watched in dismay until the Nord won. Bruised and battered, however, the mage came out of it smiling. It turned out the mage didn't know how to fight well without magic. The mer had taken their lesson for a real fight.

Back in the first town, a sneaky khajiit approached. "This one has heard of your plans, but he was in jail for picking pockets. Let him help you steal legally, from the dead." he said to the party. They discussed the notion away from him, in the tavern, and heard others speak of the suthay's skill. They reluctantly agreed to let him in on their delve. When they went back outside to find him, they found him under the tavern window, having heard everything they'd said. The mer still didn't trust the khajiit, but his stealth impressed the other two, so he kept quiet about it.

With the three others, he went back into the ruin. There was a stone on a pressure plate, and it required the mer and the Nord to swing some rope around it, pull it backwards, and let the poisonous darts that it triggered fly ahead of them. Next was a room full of angry spirits, except it was only a spell that made one think intruders were being attacked. The mage figured it out when he perceived the khajiit to have lost his tail, but felt the rest when he tried to heal the stub. He cast a ward around all of them and put an end to their temporary madness. The third room contained a varla stone too big to carry. They spent a long time simply basking in its beauty and discussing how it could be removed, but ultimately, they had to leave it behind. It doubled as a support for the buried roof, and to take it would destroy the place. In the last chamber, there were heaps of cursed treasures laying out to tempt the overeager. The khajiit stayed the mer's hand, pointing out how convenient it was that no traps or monsters lay in this room full of jewels and gold. The mage confirmed that everything in there was cursed, but he couldn't figure out how to un-curse any of it.

When the party left, the mer was sad. "I'm sorry I dragged you out here for nothing. Let's find another and try again." he said. So they did.

The second ruin was much the same - everything was too big or dangerous to take. They kept wandering and working, fighting monsters, doing odd jobs, and exploring the world together. Treasure and glory started to matter less, so long as everyone was alive at the end of the day. A few years later, the Nord and the mage married. They found themselves reminiscing about their first adventure together.

"These ones never got anything out of that ruin." said the khajiit.

"I did," said the mer. "I found all of you. That's the best treasure we could have."

Invisible Ink
OM was back again. He said it was the last time. I don't believe him. I hit him, and hugged him, and gave him his birthday present. There's always someone around when I find him in the woods. What if it's MK next time? I'm not going to let it happen. If he's here again, I'll just leave.

That's what I've told myself before. It's true this I'll try harder this time.

That way, I can just visit my blood family when I go back to Anvil. No worrying. No seeking him out. No sneaking around. I think seeing OM again might be bad for him. I'll hold off on any of that until I can find the medicine for YM.

B knew about him. She claims to know about all of them. She has weird views on the daedra, but she's smarter than I am. Doesn't mean I should just listen to her - she said that herself - but her words are worth consideration, at least.

B, I, and I can't remember who else rescued Thorn. R thinks To's a daedra or made a deal with one. Nobody else seems to believe her. I'm not sure what to think, but R's reaction seems reasonable to me.

Found R later in the woods, drunk or something. I hope it's not "or something". I wanted to walk her home myself, but I still think MK wants to break in. I want to avoid knowing where it is, so I sent Arrow to tail her and Roovee. She came into town again anyway. T left town without saying bye to me. Lucrezia's the new Steward.

I never did get that doe. It ran off wounded - I think Arrow put it out of its misery, anyway. I don't have to feel as bad about its suffering, but that would have been a few month's worth of jerky and some gold for the bones and gross parts. I caught a brace of rabbits this morning, at least. I'm going to have slippers made from their hides.

I got to see the Right of Theft take place over the past couple days. Ay's story was good. I can use it, myself, but not for finanshul gain. That's okay. I like stories better.

R almost arrested Thris today. Th is a pervert who sits around in the woods looking at naked drawings. S and G tried to make friends, but Th's a jerk. His good looks are wasted on him.

Invisible Ink
Had I known earlier, I would have offered him to If you find this and figure me out, THAT IS A JOKE. Not a tasteful one, but I really am kidding.

B helped Rasad out with his shock tonight. He seems pretty far gone. Can't even remember his name.

I feel like I'm forgetting something. Steel? Maybe Steel. He came to S's house unannounced, grinning like a weirdo and saying he heard me in the woods. It does look like an abandoned house, but even so, following children into abandoned houses is weird even for the Valenwood. It was really awkward. Maybe I shouldn't be so fast to call strange mer my friends.

Fahdi and Jig are in town. That was what I was forgetting, I think. Fahdi came a couple days ago and Jig just showed up today. Jg wants to join the Guild. I don't want him to. Maybe I should quit like W says, but I'd feel like I was letting everyone else down. But if I don't, and get hurt bad, I'm letting W down. I have a few times already, and the feeling isn't nice.

I won't quit, but I will tell SL not to go easy on Jg.

Th tried to shoot S today. Said it was for throwing rocks at him, but arrows for rocks isn't fair. Then BT was making trouble for Rs, Ad, and E. Mostly for E, I think. Rs was making trouble, too - I guess he might have had a concussion.

Invisible Ink
I really want to talk to B like she suggested, but it seems she'll be busy playing the healer for a while yet.

I've started telling people about the pot luck. Maybe I'll ask Lc if I can use the tavern since at this rate, it's going to be the whole town coming anyway. More people means more food as it is. My ulteereeor motive is to feed people who don't have a lot anyway; more food means more leftovers for those ones to take home.

Jg and I (I as in me. The Inspector is now TI for clarity's sake) ran into this dunmer, Athlin, today. He looked familiar, and I said so, so we talked it out. I think it's all true.

At said he owned our grandmother as a slave, and she saved him from a troll. She was a tracker and an adventurer - a really good one at that - and earned Mom's freedom by killing monsters with him. It has to be a Moon-Tale, or whatever the old family name was, by the sound of it. To think, Mom wasted her freedom on skooma and whoring. Don't you worry; I'll do you proud, Grams.

He also mentioned a litter. I have aunts and uncles by blood. I guess that rules out any other khajiit from Anvil or Morrowind as potential mates - moons know who my father was - but it should be safe enough to see if I can't get a chieftan's son from Elsweyr when I'm older. Or just a khajiit, or whoever. Clanmother Jo'ara has a dunmeri womer for a wife. She said it caused tension, but if she can marry a womer, maybe I can marry a human or something. A mer would be nice, but there's the matter of lifespans.

Th won a spar against S, but lost his pants today. At least he was wearing underwear and wasn't publicly indecent, technically. Then again, a few days in jail might help him sort out his obvious issues. Maybe a few days in the clinic when he has a rematch with S will do that.

Gladeeus said I'm like a daughter to him today. I don't know him well, but maybe I should get to know him better. It might be nice to be officially adopted and have a dad. W might not like it, though. She says she's a bad influence on me, but she also announced to the whole town that she loves me. It's not a conversation I really want to have. I'll keep giving her space for now.

Ji'Dar wants me to make friends with Soona. Her friend died recently, I guess. "Was killed" is the exact term he used. I want to pry, but I don't at the same time. He's also talking about joining the Guild. He wouldn't last two training sessions. Speaking of helpless men who can't stay where they're supposed to be, Rs got out of the clinic today. R put him in the cell.

The travel bug is biting me again. The next Clanmother session is on loredas...

S kicked my ass this morning. Or rather, punched my head. St was there to heal and E came in just after, but S was going too hard at it. He could have won even pulling his punches. MK was there and did nothing about it.

E doesn't seem to trust St, either, but then again, maybe she was just being protective. Even Arrow looked like he was going to eat S for a minute.

R basically said he's addicted to fighting. She said I could press charges, maybe. Apparently because I'm a child, I can't legally consent to a spar. R is the only guard who has mentioned this to me, as I recall. And the Guild officially has me down as a non-combatant, even though I've fought plenty. Everyone seems set on keeping S away from me, but I want to talk to him before I decide whether to press charges or not, as much as I dread the idea of seeing him next. He might have come to his senses by now.

Rs had a blood clot in his head or something. He's still in the cell, but at least he's being treated. He could have died today. He talked to himself a lot, but had some more loosid moments today than he has lately.

Invisible Ink
I almost picked the cell lock for B, but R came by and said she wouldn't snitch.

I got to talk to B after. She gave me a book about restoration magic. To is doing okay. I still think he might be a daedra, but it's better to hope it's him than bellyache over what might happen. I think. She also talked about being a noble, and how climbing one's way up can be lonely. It's like that in clans too, as I understand it, but it's still worthwhile, I think. It takes hardship to earn wisdom, and wisdom to rightfully earn power and wield it correcly. Moons know I've had more than my share of hardship thus far.

Invisible Ink
I didn't get to talk about daedra much to B, or suss out whether she happened to grab any bloodgrass - doubtful - but MZ might have made some progress. The ashes, though...

Talked things out with S. R and MK were snooping. I wouldn't have told him my thoughts on MK if I knew she was there. I should have known. She said she quits, but I don't know if she's serious. Is she really going to let a cub's opinion sway such a big decision? She also thinks S is sleeping with G. I don't think so. They get along, sure, but I think the cuddliness is just S relaxing while high. S strikes me as comes off as straight, anyway. I think I'm going to have to just accept that I'm interested in who's kissing who now. It's gross, but useful, information. Plus your friends finding each other is a nice feeling, anyway.

I'm not crazy. Cimber is real, not a voice in my head. G can hear ghosts. Turaythis - he died in the siege - is haunting us. R was freaking out about it, but I understand why after what she said about him. I won't even write it down here; it's that gross.

So here's what I know:
-There are at least three ghosts connected to the people of Vulkwasten
-C and I can hear Cimber. He can knock on crates and open and shut drawers
-Ghosts are usually held to our plane against their will, and/or because of horrible deaths
-G can see and hear Tatan and Turaythis
-Dunmeri don't mind ghosts. I don't know the specifics yet, but I will ask someone more
-My grandma was a dumer's slave

Where does C fit in to this? Bosmeri can be taken for slaves, too. Maybe her ancestor was also one? Or she might have some dunmeri blood. I don't know anything about her family other than An. Maybe something was done to favored slaves so they could hear ghosts?

Training went well. I like mawls. I should get one. It's too bad Ad is still in rough shape; he still owes me a spar from ages ago. I think I'll stick with swords for that one, or maybe an axe and shield. I can try what I learned with SL on a bigger opponent that way. SL said to try attacking with my shoulder, too. That one will work better with smaller people - I did fairly well going for the legs a lot today. I have to wonder if SL was going easy on me, though. Even if she was, it's a nice break from everyone else telling me to push my limits lately. Maybe they thought I was getting soft when I refused the Dwemeri ruin job? I call that being reasonable, really. Thirteen's too young to risk falling down a bottomless pit or get crushed by a centurion. I haven't even had my first kiss yet.

And I'm not going to for at least another two five more years.

Went with the Mage's Guild on a mission today. We went to Alik'r Desert and collected crystals. I kept a couple little ones in my pocket instead of putting them all in the mage's tent. I also shot a goat for Lc there. It was easy to carry, but I should take Ad's advice and try lifting that greatsword more. I wish I'd been able to pry that turkoyse out of the cliff, though. It would have made a nice necklace. J might have something like that. Maybe I can trade her? I bet the crystals are worth a lot more than turkoyse is. If I can get an honest appraisal, maybe I can even buy a portal scroll in case I ever need to get away for an emergency. Only, would that mean needing to get to Vulkwasten, or out of it? I doubt it's worth enough for a portal to both Vulkwasten and Anvil. With that kind of fleeing, though, I don't know if I'd want to go somewhere predictable.

Invisible Ink
I haven't had that kind of trouble since OM's tower, anyway. Why am I still thinking this way?

Kaz gave me an enchanted medallion the other day. You dip it in water, then flick it, and it plays a tune. I haven't sung in public since accompanying him, but it's nice out in the woods where the birds will sing along with you and nobody screams about dying housecats as if their complaining isn't just as hard on the ears. I swear one of the birds imitated the tune this morning. Parrots, maybe? I haven't seen a lot, oddly enough. Maybe the bosmeri eat them, or they're up higher than I've climbed. I'll ask LV some time.

Sadree and BT said I might go crazy if I stay in town. I think BT is crazy and a swit. He was getting other people to talk to E like my litter would when we were six year olds and mad at each other, and he told Ay and me that he's been arrested for harassment at least once. Sr talked about slavers on the road. I still haven't convinced anyone to go to Rawl'ka with me yet. I wonder how prepared slavers are to deal with senche. I should be safe enough if there's a caravan to follow.

Major Spoilers
There was another auction today. The Rosewhatever Lady didn't want to hire me, but I mentioned I was looking for odd jobs. Maybe someone will need a sneaky cub who can fit in small spaces? R bought me some khajiiti-style furniture.

W was looking for B. Didn't want to say why, but it sounds important if she's willing to have magic done. Silivan showed up while we were talking. He still creeps me out. W is informing Sv about R, and then realized she'd lost her coins. The argonian who's friends with St pickpocketed her. W didn't want me to call for guards, of course, but they got her her money back. She was all "don't get hurt", but I think part of it was not wanting help from any guards.

I learned later that it was probably because of W that R got kidnapped. I'll ask her. If it's true, I'm fucking done with W. She can go back to doing skooma and shooting people and rot in jail all over again. This time she won't have me to bring her sweetbread. I want to believe it isn't true, though.

T and R broke up. T went to a Guild leader summit and got injured by werewolves. Not many survived. It's worrying that they knew when and where that was, and planned an organized attack. T's eyes are hurt, and she wants me to take care of him. I want to, of course. He's been so good to me, and it's a chance to get to know him better. R seems to feel really bad about it. Sounds like she was the one to dump him. She called herself a terrible person, but I don't see it. Everything she's done, if you look at it from her point of view, is for the good of everyone around her.

(Keys has written coded directions to Terath's place down here. It's in Thieve's Guild symbols, many of which are a) specific to Anvil, and b) will have changed in meaning over the years since she last needed them.)

R wants me to do the rite of theft to steal a whole mammoth. I think I will. Rich owner won't miss the gold too much, I imagine.

She mentioned missing OM. I almost told her everything I left out about last time I saw the clanmother. I've almost told her a couple of times, actually.

I also almost told WM I know about her today, but I'm never alone with her. Does she make sure of that? I guess I would do the same in her position.

It will be easier on me, knowing now, if she gets found out like OM did. BT may be a swit, but I guess I have him to thank for that.

Bought the house. Nothing wrong with it; people just haven't been buying for a while. Maybe it's due to the proksimity to that other house. (In invisible ink, she's drawn a tiny depiction of the Thieve's Guild symbol in the space between sentences here.) I'll just be nice to the neighbors and hope for the best. People tend to love me pretty fast. Plus, maybe they have work for me.

The clanmother's temple was empty when I got there, so I just spent the furniture budget and came back early. There are still more things we need for the house, but I can keep on working. Some of the furniture was delivered same-day, and the stuff R got me is on its way as well. The delivery men were handsome. No crushes, thank the moons. Just a nice view and I got to tell a bunch of adults what to do for a bit.

I could have sworn I saw Cimber for a moment out there, then he showed up again after I found St, Th, and R on the cliffs. R wants to kill CG...again? For good? Something like that. Th can see AND hear him. CG laughed and showed himself to all of us for a few seconds. I want to figure this shit out, but I think R will probably get rid of him one way or another first. Is this a part of Vulkwasten's curse? I thought we were all joking about that, but this town really is cursed, isn't it? Or maybe the entire region. It could go all the way back to the Five Year War I've read about. A solution for such a curse would likely be even more difficult than curing the afflicted.

There's another boy about my age in town. He stole ale and insulted Arrow. He also called me "fuzzy". Also, he called me "old enough" but wouldn't say what for. Gross. Th doesn't like him; he asked me to beat the kid up for him for throwing a mudball. What a pussy. Maybe I can use Th if I feel like it's worth getting back at that kid for something he does, though. Even if I have to hear him go on about inappropriate things again. St beat Th up, I think for some of what he said. He also asked for a subject change when R and Th were talking about how they're not attracted to khajiit. Was that for my benefit, or did he take issue with that for his own reasons? Either way, I hugged him after he kicked Th's ass. R was mad about the fight. Said it isn't like a clanmother to settle things that way, but she wasn't complaining when they were all sweaty and shirtless. She was even egging them on.

St knows the argonian, Labo. He said he robs a lot of people. I'm going to try to catch him outside of town and beat him up some day if he sticks around. I hope he doesn't.

W is working for Rax. She also wanted to talk to Ay. Odd of her to want to talk to a guard. And one who got kidnapped, too. She says the Rax and Ay thing is for B. She doesn't know if SV was responsible for R getting kidnapped. She says she'll stop, but will she? She's concerned about staying alive, but doesn't fucking stop to think about how other people might wind up. I should have listened to R before that Magpie job.

Invisible Ink
I wish OM were here. He always made me feel better about these things. Sometimes I take his spot in the tavern. Being there brings a certain amount of comfort. I wonder if R would want to see him again. She said I'm the only family she has right now, but was she lying so she wouldn't have to mention OM?

I know I said I'd leave him be. I knew I would make a liar of myself when I wrote that. But, I asked WM about the condition today. I know she has it, too. There's something off about those earrings she had. Anyway, she'll likely see him before I do next. I asked her to tell him I have the house and he can visit for a while.

I'm getting wards placed, of course, but I'm going to wait a month. I'm going to tell everyone it's still being furnished. That's technically true. I hope I can keep them from coming that long at least. I want a visit.

We went on a hunt led by Lc today. D, JV, C, and B were there. We killed a flesh atronach, revnant, giant bear, a pocher, and a pair of senche. The senche might have been khajiit; the others didn't check. I refused to fight them, as did a couple others. They were said to be man-eaters and they said they had to be put down, but the bosmeri are man-eaters too. Nobody argues for culling them - or at least, not openly and with a blade in hand while in Dominion territory.

We went back after the senche were dealt with. We saw Elden Root - the Tall Trunk has nothing on their heart tree - but we decided to keep moving. I would love to explore the city, but not today. Not under those circumstances. Maybe I'll take a trip on my own some time. Seems like the city itself is safe enough; it's the roads you have to worry about.

A talked about killing a Titan today. It's like a daedric dragon, he said. Dragons are scary enough on their own. He said it takes siege weapons and a team of seasoned warriors to take just one down, and they'd been spotted in large numbers flying over the Imperial City once. That'd put me in the same shape poor Rs is in, too, I think. I hope he's alright.

M pet me to sleep in front of A today. I hope he doesn't use that in front of the Guild. If him or Ad use it, I'm going to be so embarrassed. I'll just have to keep my helmet on. Maybe put in some padding to make it stay better.

T said he might quit being Steward, if his sight can't be fixed. I hope it can. SL does a great job, but I think we all want him back. He has other visitors, too, and the wolves look out for him, but it sounds like not many know just yet. His armor was all shredded up. It's a miracle he's alive.

I talked to By today. He started on skooma at 12. Rough life. We talked about W. I said more than I should have, but I'm sure she's at least got a hand in what happened to R. By said he was mean to B when he came to Vulkwasten. I can't imagine him being mean to anyone.

Some moon priests came to town today with Zalya. We had a prayer circle, and I talked to one about OM. She said they're from Rimmen - that's a long ride, but there's the temple in Rawl'kha. I can't wait to learn more about our faith. F didn't join in. I'll have to ask her about that. I think it helped me, though. The priestess said to remember that when I look at the moons, he could be looking at the same ones at the same time, and that she'd pray for him, too. I already do. I wasn't sure if I was doing it right, but it seems like I had the right idea, hearing the priests pray.

I tried to take a walk with E, Ad, and Kq. Ad fell and E sprained her ankle. I healed her, but I ran out of magicka again. I'm told you're supposed to run yourself out of it every day in order to get more, but usually I do that before bed. Ad seems to have forgotten he's supposed to be studying mammoth care. He hasn't even written home. I wonder if he wants to, at this point. He's also from the Gold Coast, if I remember right...

Rs is doing better. He was tending the bar and everything. His hands are broken, but that will heal easier than his head. He's even back to making dirty comments to everyone. I asked him to stop. He tried to argue against harassment laws with me and say I shouldn't be in the tavern, then shit talked the guards. He did technically stop saying lewd stuff when I asked him, though. I'll do the same thing to Th. It isn't abusing power like Rs said - it's just using laws that are in place for a good reason.

I sound like a fucking guard. Gross.

SK said she likes By a lot. It almost sounds like she wants to kiss him. I was worried she'd tell me to stay away from him because of the skooma thing.

Rs is crazy again. Not sure what we're going to do with him. Maybe I'll ask CJ what she would do next time I see her.

B refereed a spar between E and I. I won by going for her ankle that she hurt the other day.

This lady came into the tavern looking for Feeoray (that can't be the right spelling. I'll call him Fr). Turns out E is his cuzin. The lady knows St, but St, F, and I all figured out at once that she's not a regular womer when she blushed. Her cheeks turned blue. I thought she was a vampire for a second, but I dismissed that quickly. She would have charmed us the second the blindfold was off if she was, or escaped by doing the mist thing. I found her and St in the hiding tree later. She said she's half maormer, and so is Fr but it's harder to tell with him. I hope he's only traveling. E said he's very clever. He fooled me into thinking he was kind of dumb. I wonder if he teaches acting.

She also said there are maormer cities under water. One's called Pyandoneea. Not super useful information, considering most people would die if they went there, but it's interesting.

I told F a little about OM. She reacted about how I'd expect. Maybe she'll feel better when she sees me fight someone. She doesn't like the Valenwood. That's fine, though - I'd rather Jg see the Green like that too. Rawl'kha will be better for us all, even if I may never be able to let go of Vulkwasten.

Invisible Ink
Maormer Lady kind of let slip that her and St have a hideout for people they work with. That explains a lot about St. I'm convinced he's a good mer, anyway, even if he has to hide sometimes. It's not like I haven't done the same.

Two very unexpected things happened today.

1. SL put me in charge of a Fighter's Guild mission.
2. The lost dog we were looking for on that mission had been taken by a forest troll.

Nobody got hurt (except the dog but it being hurt was why we got hired in the first place). That's the most important thing. I'd feel awful if someone was injured on my watch. D kind of took the lead with the archers, but I wasn't about to argue when the troll was right there in front of us. She also took its head, and I got a tooth. Arrow had a tuft of fur. I braided and washed it. It still smells like troll. That might not be a bad thing - maybe someone will buy it when they need to track a forest troll down.

At first I was only with our employer, A, and BN, but when we saw the troll, I decided to run back into town and get the guild. There weren't many of us, and it looked like it was to be an archery lesson. That worked out well for us. SL and the others came - C almost brought D's kitten with her. R took care of it while we were on the mission, though. Its parents are already dead and I did nothing to stop it; I wasn't about to be partially responsible for that little kit getting eaten by a troll, too.

We drew the troll's attention while still planning, but it worked out well enough. The fight was actually pretty easy. We shot at its eyes and chopped at its legs, then BN shoved his broom down the troll's throat. I thought he was doing something stupid, but I was behind the troll and a silver spear-tip came out from the fur - he'd been fooling all of us with that "broom". I wonder what the bucket's secret is now.

The mer who owns the dog made a bit of a jab at our bosmeri members after we saved his dog, but didn't explain what he meant. I didn't like that, but we had to brush it off. Everyone just wanted to go back to town, anyway. Perhaps I'll have a better chance to hash that out with the mer in the future, if SL does this again.

After I made a necklace of the troll's tooth and came back into town, B invited me and A to her house for the second time this week. I said yes, of course - I don't remember why I didn't the first time. It's a really nice house. I robbed a place like it once. Except, the place in Anvil wasn't a mage's house. I bet B's would have some magical measure against theft. Not that I'd rob her, anyway; she's my friend. She enchanted A's axe with a fire spell. I actually understood most of what she said. The enchantment required a soul gem. Something's off-putting about that.

I met a nice altmer lady, Vivinna. Bought her a room and she sang for me in return. Money well spent.

Gn kept his story straight. 87 vampires. Apparently his bear helped. I wonder what the real, not-exaggerated story is, if there is one. He ran away when I asked about his turban yesterday. Sure, he brags, but so does A and people seem to like him well enough. Maybe it's that we've seen A in action.

S is sick and G is injured, by the sounds of it. R sounded like she didn't want me to visit them. If S is contagious, she could have just said so, so what's going on with them? Do they feel bad about getting me high that one time? She said St and Th are helping them. I'm glad they're getting along with St now. It's hard to be friends with people when they're fighting each other. R said things are fine between her and W. I'm still concerned. Something broke between us when I found out she was selling information about people in Vulkwasten, and I don't know if it can be fixed as easily as "oh, we're friends again it's fine now. I'll just forget that while people were being kidnapped and sold into slavery and whatnot, you just happened to be whispering into the ear of the most suspicious person in town". I'll try not to fight with her over it, even if there's still some edge to her words about it.

I'm not willing to forgive Th just yet, either. He's still an insufferable asshole, no matter what anyone says. Pretending to be a dick is still being one.

I talked to JV and Rax about the troll job. They both defended D even though it's clear as a Gold Coast day that she was letting her head get too big for that little wood elf body in the fight. Are men just always like this? I hope when I'm older and have one, he doesn't get so stubborn and irrational over me.

Speaking of that sort of stuff, I feel like I need to do something to make up for last night. It's hardly my fault there was a medical emergency - and for Rs's not-dead wife, Aya, no less - but I still feel bad. If any other healer was in town that I knew of, I would have just let them be. Thank the moons I left my middle earrings in.

-Did nothing about Laranan. Lanaran? Can't even remember her damn name right. Ran away and hid, no less.
-Stood by as two Senche were killed by my friends.

T was back in town today. It's good to see him up and about. He's still getting used to being blind. I hope his sight can be restored. Th put him down and T took it really bad, though. Had a good talk once Th and Jg were out of the way. I hope the eyeball conversation didn't hurt T's feelings. Would have been funny if it wasn't right in front of a blind mer. Anyway, Th said something about people not wanting T...I really do think that's a load. He's handsome, smart, and I remember him saying sickening-sweet things about R when they were together. Even when he's not being romantic...he said to think about the Guild and how they have my back before sleeping so the nightmares won't be so bad. I'm glad I met him before I started getting crushes. I think he was already family by then, anyway. Someone will definitely fall for him again. He just needs time to heal first.

I'm told SL knows a lot about everyone and shares it openly. Will have to be careful what I tell her. Will also have to ask her about people. I'm good at asking a lot of questions.

Th said I shouldn't play truth or dare and never have I ever. Just because adults play it differently doesn't make it any less a children's game. I have good memories of truth or dare, even if it ended in the odd arrest back in the day. I bet never have I ever is more interesting when it's about adult things that aren't sex, though. Especially with long-lived elves.

Rz walked up on R and I talking. He called her a bitch. He cried when we told him off for eavesdropping. She said he's made her cry. I went after him, anyway. We talked things out some. We hugged. We still don't see eye to eye, really, and I guess he thinks I'm dumb. Nobody else does, so I guess he'll just have to see for himself and I'll have to not let it get to me. Keeping the peace is more important. I hope he can work things out with R, too. I have to learn this kind of thing if I'm to be a clanmother one day.

Invisible Ink
R did the rite without me. Said the guy was mad. I thought he would be. It's probably for the better; it sounds like the wrong way to use that tradition. Still, I want to do fun, sneaky stuff with R. Maybe I'll see if she wants to help me with pranks? First I'd have to think of a good prank or two.

T asked about YM. Said we could seek out the most potent medicinal ingredient and nobody would have to know why. That leaves the other two rare ingredients, for the hard part. T said B would probably help out. I will ask her bluntly next chance I get.

I still wish I'd seen YM when I was out there. I miss him.

Aya isn't really Aya. Someone is trying to kill B and use Rs to do so. Another name for my list, maybe. That makes it two questions I had for B, but Jg interrupted again and then Rs showed up. Wasn't sure how to proceed. Guess you're waiting a little longer, YM.

Rs said I'm like a niece while he was lucid. My family keeps on growing and nobody even has to have babies for it. Bet he'd have something dirty to say about that. I don't know that I feel like he's an uncle. He's scared me some lately, but it was only Not-Aya's influence, I think. I figured it was shock. How long has this been going on? Maybe I don't even know the real him yet. I guess he gets another chance now.

Jg is casting spells without even knowing it. B said he might explode. I wish she hadn't said that. It won't help with the nightmares.

Not much else to write about right now that wouldn't be repetitive. Tirdases are slow - everyone goes to that Rose Garden place. If I was still thieving, I'd be overjoyed. Perhaps I'll take up on the ramp with my bow for these nights and keep watch over town like the guards do.

This entry gets pasted in at some point.

The Guild killed two feral werewolves and a skooma dealer tonight. I had nothing to do wit the dealer. The ferals...

Nothing can be done for a feral werewolf. I think.

I dumped a crate of skooma off of one of the towers in the abandoned wood orc fort we found. People were shooting at the guild while we were up on the tower. D and JV fell through the stairs. Lucky for me that I'm light. I wasn't strong enough to lift them on my own or even along with C, though; I would have been fucked if A and C hadn't come when I yelled. I still have a ways to go, I guess. I'll keep lifting that practice greatsword daily.

Arrow wouldn't go through the portal back, so I went to Elden Root with A and this khajiit who came with us. An ex-marine, he said, and the Dominion won't take him back. Don't know why - he looked capable enough and I didn't see him fight, but I know he was in it with us and he sounded confident. Both went to the Altmer embassy. It's gorgeous in there - their buildings are so smooth and bright. It's like stepping into another province. All of Elden Root is beautiful.

There's this part that's a ruin. Ayleid, by the look of it. I met a homeless bosmer there while I was sitting on a platform that I think used to hold a varla stone. He asked me for gold, then talked about the middens - an underground place where the dregs of society go. Then mentioned my dagger. I thought he was going to try to rob me, but one threat got him to back down. I guess not everyone survives as well as I have. It's easy to forget, after clawing my way up like that. I gave him two of my silver-tipped arrows.

I guess I might as well make for Rawl'kha instead of heading straight back to Vulkwasten, if I want to catch the clanmother this loredas. It's not like nobody knows where I am and couldn't guess that course of action.

Maybe I'll have Alyss yell at me in the woods this time though. I feel like it's going to be the loudest scolding yet.

I'm broke. Didn't expect to need as much gold before fridas or I would have hunted more while still in familiar territory. I used the rite of theft to get a ride. Dumb of the merchants to just leave a shield laying around like that. I used it again with a bear hide for two meals, and once more with some dice for a story. I can't remember the whole yarn now; something about getting chased down by senche tigers. I guess not everyone can tell a memorable tale.

Cormount is nice. I've been putting off leaving for hours. I learned that the people here once burned down a town called New Joy, and I saw their treethane in passing, but she was too busy to talk to. There's a huge gate shut tight here - according to the locals, there is a way to Elseweyr near it, though.

A fucking cave.

Of course it's a fucking cave. At least Arrow's not afraid of those, and I'm not too scared to even try going in one. Maybe one of the Dominion soldiers would be kind enough to escort me through.

Willowgrove is nice, too. Good hunting in Reaper's, and I missed being able to use the plants. Sold off what I couldn't eat, but I spent a lot on moon sugar caramels. They're so tasty. I have to be really careful with these; I don't want to get too high.

I'm at the house now - sent a courier to Vulkwasten. If I hadn't stopped in Willowgrove, I could have popped by town, but I'd only go right back anyway. Might as well hunt some more so I can put some gold towards a proper cooking setup. Better More productive than sitting around eating sweets all day.

This letter is carefully transcribed in invisible ink, with some parts obviously changed a little. The real letter is well-hidden within the walls of Keys' property in an unmarked location. The ink is smudged from teardrops in places.

Heavy Spoilers/Invisible Ink
Keys,

I don’t know if you’ve spoken to Wraesha. I know she’s going to tell you, or you’ll find out another way.

I’m in a bad place, Keys, and I’m weak. I had no-one to turn to, and skooma’s so easy to find. Wrae found me in the forest. She smelled it. And she started taunting me. Fair enough, I suppose, but I was drunk and high, and I fought her. I didn’t want to kill her, I was just panicking.

I told you, Keys. I’m a bad mer. You should stay away from me. I’m sending this note to tell you that, but also that S has your vampire ashes. For YM. It’s a long story, but you can go get them from him.

I hope you can cure him. I hope you become a clanmother. No, I know you will. Just spend your time with the guild, and people like Ter, and stay away from people like me, and you’ll get there.

-R.

I missed her because I was in this place called Reaper's Rest. They didn't believe me about the forest troll. The khajiit with the horns and blue stuff on her face bought my sweetmilk and offered a free vacation. What's she up to?

R's probably leaving for a while now. Maybe forever. She said I was the only thing holding her to Vulkwasten.

I forgave W, the first and second times around (but this...if R is telling me the truth...). I forgave OM. What makes her think I can't forgive her? A clanmother has to spend the most time with people like R. T doesn't need clanmothering half as much as her, clearly. I want to tell her that - maybe without bringing T up. She said she'll live in Wayrest now...maybe after I help YM, I could ask one more favor of B?

I wonder if she'd write OM off as a hallucination again. I know things aren't good between them, but he always knew what to say, when things were fine. I think she needs an OM hug.

And the ashes. Moons, R. You think you're terrible, but this is the best thing I've ever seen you do. We're giving a child his life back. Ridding the world of a vampire without sending anyone to Coldharbor. I love you so much. I want to help. You were so brave last time you went to jail. You know I'd bring you food and spoil you as best I could and take your side when the rest of town stands against you. Just let someone help you. CJ's first word of advice was to avoid R. Said if I focus too much on one, I'm letting others fall behind.

I can't just let her go.

There was a priest of Kynareth there. Or a monk? I'm not sure. He spoke of a conflict about sacred animals, and said a seemingly simple brother was sent off to resolve a dispute with some nords who wanted meat. The brother who was sent butchered the nords to show them how the animals felt. He was turned in to the Foresters, whatever those are.

Someone left just because dunmeri were brought up. She wouldn't last five minutes in Vulkwasten.

The horned khajiit was there, but I was just leaving as she came. Some human guy asked why I was alone. I told him I have Arrow. He said he wanted to talk to me as if I knew him. I panicked and went straight back to Vulkwasten.

Invisible Ink
Need to remember I left qwarsh sitting outside at the house. How do I explain that if someone finds it? With luck, the bottle will get really dusty and I can just say it's been there all along. I hope WM has gotten the message across.

R was arrested for the skooma use today. G came back into town. Seems a lot has happened this month I wasn't quite aware of. And here I thought things were quiet. K is in the cells, too, for assaulting BT. She might be onto something. Ay thinks someone may be spreading madness around the town. Might be paranoya, or it might be a solid theory. If it's true, I will fight for the town however I can. Only, if it hits me, how would I know?

Invisible Ink/Major Spoilers
Some would say I'm already mad because of my connections to OM, YM, WM, and SW.

Th told me MW is afflicted. Another friend, cursed - and worse, he said he's just about feral. Maybe SW can help him? Except, he said he doubts he's looking for a cure, so would SW bother? I really don't want to kill my friends. I guess I have to hope to catch MW alone and use the defense R told me everyone will understand - just be friendly. Get out of the situation fast. In this case, faster than I would with OM or SW. I love them so much. I might already be too late for me with MW, too, though. I lo I shouldn't commit it to writing. That makes it more real, somehow. I guess I'll find out if I see him again.

Th is honest with me. I like that. Even if he says I should go be a kid as if I could, knowing these things. I misjudged him to the point where the thinks I hate him. I respect him for being up front with me about it. R knew and didn't tell me. That could have led to disaster. I should be mad, but the way she is right now, I just can't be. I really need to learn how to make those potions.

Quiet day. Gave F a swordfighting lesson. Met Kana. She tells great stories. Learned some things about Fedris, both the real version and Kn's. SL (is she still SL technically? Maybe just L now. T will be back in shape to be Steward again soon) doesn't seem to like him, and he doesn't like Rz, according to Rz. I can't just take things people say about each other at face value. I want to ask Fd about his opinion of L and Rz now, but it's not my business.

I'm glad I didn't base anyone off of anyone in OM's story or even name them. Even the real stuff that happened was changed a lot. I think it's about time I wrote another one. Maybe the account of the forest troll. Since it actually happened, it'd be fine to leave in real names for it.

It's hard to talk to R while she's in a cell. There's a lot of vagueness and whispering between us now. Was it always this way? I never really thought much of it until we lost our privacy. She said to be wary of GD. The other thing she mentioned about him makes me curious, though.

Invisible Ink
She also said I'll either get over YM, or fall in love. Dark. Fucking. Moons. I do NOT want to be in love just yet. It feels like being on moon sugar to think about him, sure, but that isn't love, right? It's just a nice thought if you ignore all the parts that mean it could never work. Like lifespans. Or his affliction, until we can fix that (I already mentioned it so I guess there's no point claiming it's 'an illness' any more). Or that I don't really know him well. Or that he's miles away. And even if it were some other, more appropriate boy, I have enough on my plate as it is.

I wonder if I'll ever feel like I have room to fall for someone. Obviously I want it some day, just not now.

I don't want to write about the cultists. I should, but I don't want to.

JV and D are getting serious. I had my eye on JV for chieftan some day, but I don't know if I could deal with D being the chieftan's wife. I can only stand her in small doses. Even if she had no power, I bet I'd have to deal with her playing politics. It'd be more of an annoyance than a threat, I think. Good thing I didn't even tell him. Still, it was sweet of him to take care of me after that ordeal.

I'm glad I have more moon sugar caramels left. Moon sugar stops me from dreaming. I just hope there's enough time to take care of my teeth between eating these and passing out.

Things I want for my clan:

-Nobody starves. In times of scarcity, children are fed first.
-Everybody earns their keep.
-Rule by council. Chieftan, Clanmother, and Council must reach a consensus on all major decisions. Public forum for smaller issues.
-Chieftan and Clanmother can veto Council?
-Leadership roles are chosen, not inherited. Each Chieftan and Clanmother chooses the most appropriate replacement out of the young adults and grooms them for it. Councillors voted in?
-Children kept under careful watch for who may make good leader once of age.
-Spouses or blood relations of leaders do not necessarily hold official power.
-Every child learns to read, count, and some basic fighting techniques. Also taught a little about every race's culture.
-Everybody is important, no matter what they do for the clan.
-Need land. How to acquire? How to initially fund farming, housing, etc?
-Any ruins on clan land must be preserved and documented as much as possible.
-Discourage overuse of alcohol. Can't really enforce bans on it outside of clan land. How to handle?
-...

It isn't perfect, but if there were such a thing as a perfect system, we wouldn't have a war on our hands, would we? I don't have to figure it all out now. This is a start.

Invisible Ink/Spoilers
MW knows that I know. Told him I love him. Told him I'd kill him if I needed to. I hope that moment never comes.

Got the ashes. There are a lot of them. Need bloodgrass and argonian blood still. I wish I could tell YM. Seeing the babies is worth a trip to Anvil even if OM isn't in town or he is and I miss YM again. Maybe I ought to? Only, I want to stay for R. She needs me too. Maybe in a couple weeks.

The Nightshade Free Company is the name of the mercenary group that kidnapped me. They sent gifts - cursed, for the most part, but my boots seem okay. They're enchanted to make you jump high or anchor you down depending on whether they touch or not. Ad seemed really worried before I figured out what they did. He was right to fuss like that. One sword summoned scamps, an axe shot lava out, and a bow turned C's hands to bark. BT got a hold of the scamp sword and stabbed himself, a scamp, and caught on fire while trying to be nice to the beast. The stuff is locked up now. I hope that sword gets thrown into a volcano like I suggested.

I wonder if these Nightshade mercenaries knew we would mess around with this stuff. How long have they been watching? Subtlety didn't seem like their style when we were there, but now I wonder what else they know? Have they read my journal? It's not like it'd be hard to rummage through my room when I'm not there...must hide this book even better than I have been. The current place is good, but it's about time to change hiding spots anyway.

(The mercenaries' symbol is drawn neatly here.)

L and T were in the hall talking to A about his bullheadedness. I feel like I would have been booted out from that conversation a couple months ago. Have I really grown that much? L says I have. I'm a Swordsman now. It feels weird. I don't know if I'm ready for this kind of responsibility with the Guild. The Swordsmen teach people, and I still have so much to learn myself.

L and I talked some after A and T left. By the sounds of it, she's been on skooma, too. How many people in this town have been on the stuff?

A said that B isn't around for a while. I hope she's alright.

M has a nickname. Dove. It fits. She was taken when she was younger, I guess. She told R and I that - I guess the bird bit is because she likes her freedom. It makes sense to me. I worry about the way she eats, though. That much raw meat has to be bad for an altmer.

Something's up with W and the collector mer. She looked terrified coming back in to the tavern. I wanted to eavesdrop when they left, but I didn't follow them. Maybe next time. I'm so rusty at it.

We got our fortunes told today. Mine was interesting. The Wheel of Fortune for a turn of events, the Four of Swords for clarity, and the Fool for a fresh start.

Invisible Ink
Accidentally mentioned YM to Ay when I talked to her earlier. I thought I'd told her, but maybe I just thought about it a lot when she mentioned having an afflicted friend the one time. He was on my mind for the better part of the day after that. Perhaps the reading was to do with him? Maybe the cure is even closer than it feels. It could also be a Fighter's Guild thing, though. Or something completely unexpected.

Perhaps I should get a deck and see if I can get Mina to teach me, or find a book. J might have a deck and a book for sale. I wonder if a specific force leads the fortune teller's hand. I'd technically ask about the future, so maybe Akatosh? It can't hurt to find someplace to leave out an offering either way.

Fats is dead. I saw his ghost. Talked to him. Something happened to him on the beach, I think. He mentioned feeling sick. I wish I had known. I would have told someone, brought him soup, that sort of thing. He said someone named Kasee has something for me. She's a healer; maybe the others know her. Something I couldn't see dragged him away. Maybe whatever she has was his unresolved business? I don't know how I'll explain how I know he's dead, but the townsfolk need to know. I don't know who all knew him other than W. I'll start with R; she knows I really do see ghosts.

Won a couple spars today. Ad isn't very good with swords - I told him three spars with me, and if I get the best of three, he needs extra lessons. He didn't seem happy about it, but I'm responsible for my people and I can't have him falling behind. I should be doing this to D, but she's sick. It's a little uncomfortable ordering a grown mer around. I wonder if every human and betmer who's in charge of elves feels that way.

Visible Ink, just spoilery
Couldn't sleep from the bruising and the thought of Fats, so I went into the woods but didn't make it far. BT and Lord Sadri Morvayne were there. He called me a peasant. I suppose it's true, but that caught me off guard and I didn't like it. Arrow kept growling at him. Something is seriously wrong.

Sr said I could have all his stuff. I'm waiting to see if he wants his cart and senche back, and feeding her. She likes Arrow, but Arrow is nootered. I looked at some old drawings of his. It looks like he stood to inherit a plantation, lost a lover, was a priest (ordinator? He was in the same sort of armor I've seen St wear before), and then decided to be a jester. He wasn't here long - how old is he? How long was each phase? He took his journal away, of course, so I can't use that. I hope he takes his stuff back. That cart looks like it's worth as much as my house. I wouldn't mind having one, but mahogany just screams "hey bandits, I flaunt my wealth please rob me". I guess it'd make them happy enough if someone is in the market for a bunch of jester suits all in the same size.

I don't even know his Senche's name. I'll keep bringing her meat for a few days. I said I'd let her go, but I don't know...she might need Arrow and me for a while. She was his friend. She waited for him by the Hall door while I slept in there. BT said it's probably just a phase. He doesn't think Sr is going to kill himself. I'm not so sure.

If nothing else, I guess I have someone to be sad with now.

Ay and Viotta are missing. Sr kidnapped V. Don't know who kidnapped Ay exactly. 'Large ugly man with arrow in arm headed north from tavern'. Connected? Maybe. BT may be involved, but probably not.

Fd and A want to rescue V. I want to help. DN, too. Only, if they went to Morrowind, I can't go again. The time with the Magpies was dumb luck. I won't end up a slave - even A said I shouldn't go if that's the case. Just...where to go with this? We have no clues, no scents, not even a mage capable of opening a portal if we did know where to start looking.

The feeling is almost as bad as last year when I briefly lost track of one of the babies on the beach. It isn't quite the cold, numbing fear of 'what happened to the child I'm responsible for' but the heartache and knot in the stomach are the almost same - and I don't even know V. It must be Oblivion for A and Fd.

Invisible Ink
Took DN aside and asked if she has contact with OM. She's seen him. Wasn't expecting a yes, but I also didn't want to ask WM as she only denied it. R said they all seem to know each other and she's right as far as I can tell. I wonder if MW knows them, too. Should have asked one of them about SW. Anyway, I told her to deliver the news about the ashes and the house. Sounds like he got his, too, if that was a hint? I wish I could see the look on his and YM's faces when they hear I've made some progress.

DN is still struggling with self-lowthing. She needs better advice than I can give. All I can offer is friendship and hugs. I guess it helps, but I feel like it's not enough. Another townsperson or two has been cured before. Maybe they just need to talk to each other, but it isn't my place to tell her who used to be a werewolf or a vampire. Besides, I feel like she's open enough about it that whoever wants to tell her, would have.

The writing here is lopsided, letters uneven. There is now a rum stain soaking the top right corner of the book. Smells sweet.

They took Storm and E. R is back in the guard and has a good plan. We all write down as much as we know in the Guard Hall. We will figure this out. I'm going to Morrowind. Nobody fucks with my family.

Girl senche's name is Leola. R might take her in. Poor Arrow doesn't like her constant affections, but I can tell he doesn't want to make her sadder, either.

I am not going to Morrowind.

W is in rough shape. She hates that I mother her, but she needs it. Who else is going to? She has Rax, but I don't know him. Ali will come see her, too. I trust him, but I want to help anyway. The story I got is third-hand and honestly it sounds like they're all getting stoned at S's house again. It gets weird there, but not that weird. I hope DN isn't going down the same path as W, Bn, and R. My people are suffering and there's only so much I can do. I am not a real clanmother. We need a proper treethane. We need more guards.

I'm moving the babies to Rawl as soon as this is over, wards or no. My family will not stay in a port where slavers have free reign. I'll go in person and escort them myself. If I still have that wagon, I'll sell it and hire guards for the trip. It'll probably cover the wards, too.

Invisible Ink
I think maybe I will get an exception, at least for OM. It's not like my hunting leaves me with a dearth of blood; I can keep some aside if he needs it. I'll learn some bosmeri recipes to cover myself. Using every part of the animal is smart, anyway, and the babies won't find it gross if they grow up with it.

Eight less werewolves in our jungle. I don't even feel bad about this lot despite seeing their real faces before they turned. In fact, I'm proud of what we accomplished today.

I slit the throat of the alpha that knocked D down. Hopefully she'll show some respect now.The smell of silver-burnt flesh won't leave my nose, but it keeps the bugs off. JV stayed in line, for which I'm thankful. I thought I heard someone say they had an argument after. I hope it doesn't cause trouble down the road. Saw HlorIwon'teventrytospellit stab a wolf right in the brain. She scares me a little, but I'm happy she fought with us.

The Commander of the Nightshade Free Company may or may not pay us for the wolves we killed. I need the money, but it was worthwhile in so many other ways - not the least of which is that it gave us all a distraction from the slaver panic. If they're good to us, NC's army of mercenaries could be of great use in the future.

Ad was still upset over E immediately after, though. He agreed to fight DN. It was the initiation spar for both. It cheered him up some. They get along well and I like DN's attitude. The match was pretty even but Ad won. DN is going to do really well.

It sounds like the Rose Garden may be connected to the slaves somehow? I'm not quite sure. I guess Sr works there and someone named Petal is under suspicion of helping him. Will have to look through the reports tomorrow.

Invisible Ink
R said OM was at the Rose Garden. I don't like that he still comes to the Valenwood, but I want to see him again. YM isn't with him. I swear to the moons if my work goes to waste...

I don't know what I'll do. Probably just cry. I feel like I'm going to need a good cry just for the sake of it soon. I want to read a sad story and just get it all out.

This is pasted in on a scrap of paper.

Stepping through the portal was dumb, but worth it. I saw the babies. I held all of them, fed two myself, and helped give baths. I cried when they started saying my name. The matron doesn't believe much of what I say. She thinks I need to spend more time at temple. I love the temple but there isn't much a giant statue of Dibella's going to do for me right now. I will leave an offering before Stendarr's window in the morning, for what it's worth. My old friends are keeping an eye out and the clean ones are hanging around the orphanage. I can't wait to have them home.

Jg is insufferable. He acts like this is all a game and has a puffed up ego about it. He's jealous of me for being a Swordsman; he kept bringing it up. L and JV came back into town without him. I sent Arrow after him.

K is going to get caught deliberately. M came with her. I hope they're okay.

No sign of OM or YM while I was there. Temple was peaceful, though. I needed that.

I lost a mother today. The first. The baby's okay, but her tai the part between she ripped open. We couldn't save her. L didn't know what to do. I tried to use magic, but it was too late. There was so much blood. Two mer fought over who the father was and chaos surrounded the birth. Y'ffre marked the womer...I thought she'd be kept safe. I prayed for the child, but I didn't ask about her. Is it my fault for not asking the gods to protect her? Am I talking crazy?

I need E. I need Ay. They're so easy to talk to, and they're gone.

There's so little I can do. I can't even stop my stupid brother from wandering off alone. I feel hollow, like I ran out of anger and sadness. There are things I need to do, but I can't. I can't move. It took all my willpower just to pick up a quill.

OM was at the clanmother's and asked about his son. We're going through similar things it seems. He mentioned said son having siblings. R said they're not all really his, but I still wonder. R lies to me about this stuff to save my feelings. Anyway, someone mentioned rewarding good behavior and showing the teen places they want to see. The latter is difficult right now, but maybe. Perhaps Jg'd come with me to the next one if I can get a party with me again.

He should have realized I'd bring people from the village eventually. He left before them, understandably, but it was good to see him again. I know where his house is now, and R does, too. It sounds dangerous, but SW is there as well. To see them both and talk freely...maybe even see YM. It sounds like they have him back, maybe. My heart aches for the Coast and will not stop even after I move the babies. Yet when I'm there, it aches for the Valenwood. Is it going to be like this forever?

CJ says we should fight to the death to get ours back. She's right. I'd die for them. I still feel heavy, empty, and hopeless, but I will work through this and keep trying. Maybe I can take something other than moon sugar or alcohol to feel better. Something to keep me awake and aware. Coffee? Too strong. Ginseng tastes funny, but if it's for medicinal uses, I might keep it in mind. I don't know if I want to bother Ali about it with how busy he is. Are there other healers in town? Alchemists?

CJ also told of how she escaped Morrowind. She was near the border. The Imperial army came and killed Dres and their slaves, but not her. She wasn't in the plantation's field that they raided; she was in the kitchen and saw from the window. She killed her master and his son with a kitchen knife. She was a slave for over ten years. She wanted to kill all of them, but finding the key to her shackles and running was more important. She killed an Imperial and stole his horse, riding away without looking back. She didn't say the rest, but it's heartening to know how she got away. We won't have the Legion behind us, but we'll have our fury if we can focus it just right.

We also talked about art. I stopped trying to paint the moons when I moved out of the warehouse. I should try again in my downtime to keep from sleeping too much. K had really good insight on it. I can't remember the wording; something about leaving our mark for the future. I like this change in K.

There was a town meeting afterwards. S is back. We spoke of addictions. We're going to build two more cells, to a total of four. St was there. He's going to teach me healing. I thought he wasn't allowed in town? Anyway, it ended when H and L had an initiation spar. It's not the first time they've fought. H is an associate with the Guild now.

That dirty thief Aida's journal got stolen by munkees. It had notes on the combination for Sr's lockbox, which she had. Munkees also stole his props. L's Dwemeri spider went after them, then turned into stone and exploded when it tried to open the box. At least no people turned to statues. Turns out Sr's props unlock it. I put everything in the guard hall. Hopefully, we can figure this out.

Used my hiding tree for the first time since ML came by. Sitting around brooding still makes me feel heavy again. Have I outgrown that little split in the roots? I hope not. I have a lot of feelings attached to that tree. Maybe I should hang up some vines around the house. Kn showed up crying. She doesn't like how A keeps her in the house all the time. I had almost forgotten everyone thought A was dead. A told her alcohol is a daedric brew. Not far from the truth.

I told her a lot of things about afflicted. Maybe admitted more than I should, but she has a reputation for tall tales, so it should be safe? Maybe? She brought up an interesting question: If you get bit by both a vampire and a werewolf at the same time, and somehow survive, which curse do you get?

She also said the most important thing about family is sticking together. And here I am, miles away. We'll be together soon enough.

Also we hugged. First one I think?

((Written while everyone else was off saving Sura.))

I thought it was going to be like any other training session. The day felt normal, for the Valenwood. The heat made me purr in my armor and as usual, I saw the small crowd and hoped I wasn't late. Lu was our acting Steward due to a werewolf attack putting our usual one out of commission (temporarily; he's okay now), but even that part felt like the norm. She's a good leader.

A man came running up from the south road, asking for our help as people often do. I'd seen him with a dog before. The dog was missing - its nose didn't work well, and he loved the dog very much so he was willing to pay us to find it. I would have helped for free, but I didn't mention that. It's that compulsion to help that makes me want to be a clanmother some day. Lu knew this, and she offered me the lead for the job. I agreed to it, and she sent the Legendary Afer and the broom-wielding Bucket Knight with me. My Senche friend, Arrow, came along as well.

We went to the spot where the dog was last seen. Arrow sniffed him out from there - the trail led us inside a cave. Caves make me nervous, but I've never let that stop me. Even when we saw the troll.

It was a huge, pungent thing covered in green fur like lichen. The dog was bleeding next to it while it feasted on some unrecognizable corpse atop a ledge. The four of us - myself, Afer, the Bucket Knight, and our employer - huddled behind a root and planned while Arrow manned the cave entrance. Afer wanted to charge right in as is his style, but I was having none of it. I wouldn't lose him and the Bucket Knight had only cleaning supplies for a weapon and helm. I ran back to town as fast as I could and yelled for the Guild. They weren't within earshot when I found the training grounds, but thankfully, I remembered another spot we use for duels sometimes. Everyone was there with bows.

One girl, Dissy, kept insisting on using fire arrows. In the Green. I told her not to, but she's a loudmouth. With no time to argue, I ordered the Guild to get ready. Another Guild-mate wanted to bring a kitten for some reason. She still had it when we met at our checkpoint. I ordered her to bring it back into town and let my friend Ren catsit. I started to worry about how we would face a troll with this group, but I couldn't let the gnawing at my stomach consume me whole. I brought my archers to the cave and explained the plan: Draw it down the stone ledge, shoot the eyes, attack the legs, and let it drown should it fall forward into the pond below. Our noise attracted the troll's attention.

That swit Dissy took over my archers. My heart sank as arrows hissed past the troll's head, only a few striking its ugly face. The Bucket Knight was rescuing the dog behind it, but I had no time to see if either of them caught one. Afer jumped in too soon and started yelling and distracting the beast. Our melee fighters came at it in a flurry of blades. I fought too carefully, in hindsight - my shield at the time was a modified tortoise shell, and I'm still unsure if the rumors that they can take the impact of a shark bite are true, nor did I know how the backhand of an angry troll compares to a shark's jaws. Still, I managed to lodge my sword into the back of the troll's knee. Pushing through my own fear and the nigh-unbearable stench of wet, bleeding troll, I looked to check on the others and saw the Bucket Knight flying at the screaming monster's maw with his broom held in both hands.

I thought he was a goner. It was only a few seconds, but I could picture it so clearly - the notion that the troll would grab him and fling him to the cave walls filled me with dread. I may have already been grieving, but my eyes belied my mind.

He shoved his broom down the troll's throat and from behind it where I stood, still struggling to extract my blade from the troll flesh, a silver speartip glimmered through the fur at the back of its neck. We all scrambled back as it fell, nearly suffocating on the stench of water that had been stagnant for only the gods know how long being disturbed. My chest swelled with pride and for a moment, I forgot the true goal of the mission. I extracted its canine for a trophy and checked on the others. Nobody had so much as a scratch except for our smelly green foe. And the dog, but it was bandaged when we came back outside, our employer grateful.

-The end of this part. More to come.

There. I did something useful today. It's hardly sundown but I still feel like going back to bed.

I dressed up and acted like that guy from the Mudcrab and Suds. People seemed to like it even though they never met him. They know the type. "Edgy assassin". That lack of subtlety means he's probably long gone now. The Rose Garden is definitely not for me, like the adults say, though. Everyone just wants to see each other naked and giggle at the dangly parts. Amatchers. Then again, my dare wasn't as funny as I thought it would be. It's easier to make them good when you know all the players really well.

Ay was there. She got out somehow. She didn't say a word - she needs care. They all do, but so do I. I give a lot of myself. This is the worst time to be selfish, but would any other time feel any better? I just need to get out of town a while. I'll show up for middas training, ask Ad how E is and see for myself how D is, then figure it out from there. Even S knows we all need a break; I'm not getting fake-arrested for a bit.

I met a bosmer making a bow out of something that had been undead. There were thralls and a mammoth? Sounds like a vampire, but everyone got quiet about it and S walked away when I asked. Bosmer lady said someone fucking died. An argonian who does destruction magic. I almost thought it was Heals, but...I don't think he does destruction. And I think she said he? So not Speaks With Calm...I'm drawing a blank. Maybe it's better if I leave before I find out.

Sick. Everything hurts. Bored. No Anvil yet.

Walked around even though I shouldn't. We're up to four guards I guess? S, R, Th, and Theleg. Ay quit. She's in a cell for her own safety, which is dumb.

MM scared E off, but he doesn't seem that bad. He did some bad things, sure, but he had to. He still saved all of them. I think Ay might be in love. Still, he was asking about my hunting routes. He might just like to know things, but he also might be selling information like W did. I want to trust him, but I'll have to be extra vigilant.

I bet all of my traps are full. Meat won't be so good by n((the ink trails off in a line that goes all the way down the page.))

I keep falling asleep while I try to write.

Daedric spiders invaded the woods. Everyone was hurt badly. Guess it's good I got sick and over-exerted, in a way? Even SK's backrubs aren't helping with my muscles right now. She says the cold is my body telling me to take it easy a while. I was already planning a vacation. Not fair.

A asked me about Kn sneaking out today. I wasn't sure I said the right things. I see where he's coming from, but cooping Kn up in her house just isn't right. She's friends with L's kid, too. Amora, I think it was. Kn taught Am how to shoot bows and L got pissy, according to A. Him and Kn might even go to the Clanmother's.

I hope OM isn't there this time. Not with A. Maybe I can get a letter ekspedyted?

Met two nice ladies at the bar tonight. One was hitting on F. She also said I should mix Guarana juice with the snowballs I make to practice magic and eat them. That sounds good.

I just want to get better and get the babies settled.

There's a new bartender, Minks. She makes really good cookies. Not as good as E's of course.

I feel less sick than I had before. Hopefully I can make it to Velyn tomorrow and take a boat. I want to bring Arrow. I'll leave Leola for SK, Jg, and F to ride. Maybe Dawn, too. She's in town today. She has a gorgeous dog. He looks kind of like Titus. I miss Titus a lot.

M pointed to MS and called her bad. I'm not sure why. She seemed alright to me, except then she started talking about how she attracts lycans like there's a scent to her and Th said some people are just prey.

Invisible Ink
Was MW lying when he said I only smell like leather and beeswax? I'd leave tonight if the woods were safer. I need to ask OM about it.

The last entry contained truths, but I've changed my mind about them since this afternoon. W got stabbed. She's fine. R got kidnapped. I don't know how R is physically, but one of her senche died. S and the other guards are probably rescuing her. She'll be fine. But I won't ever stop feeling bad about not blindly going after her.

Still.

Forget waiting. Forget sleeping. Arrow can kill anything that tries to hurt us on the road. I'm leaving tonight.

Funny how you can cram six excited toddlers into one tiny room and it's still more peaceful than Vulkwasten.

Invisible Ink
I visited OM. SW was there, too. They said the afflicted can smell weakness, but it's just that I don't try to kill them. Is that a weakness? Do I need to start? Are my exceptions OM, YM, WM, SW, and MW? What about PM? Is he on the list? No. I only talked to him a couple of times. If I see him again, I'm putting silver through his throat. Or heart or whatever I can reach; he's tall. ML should know what he is if I see her again, too.

And all going well, SW will be off that list due to a cure soon. I pray to all the gods that'll listen that it will work out that way. Hopefully I can take YM off that list, too. MW said if he turns while I'm present, do it. Otherwise, I won't. That leaves OM and WM.

Maybe I'm talking crazy, but maybe the talk about becoming a priest of Arkay was more than jokes. Am I meant for something greater than clanmothering? I'll see if maybe I can find someone to ask at the temple. I have a gut feeling that I should seek this out quietly.

It's been difficult to get a moment to journal in this house, but here I am. SK is here - it's roughly the same distance from Bandaari - and Dw is staying here too. I can split my time now, and come back often enough that the babies will remember me. I wonder how they'll react next time I dye my fur.
Spoilers

R came by to tell me that W tried to (may have tried to) skin another khajiit. And that the information W sold really did put her in trouble. I knew R would be fine. She said I'm not allowed to feel guilty about it. It sounds like W might get executed. I decided not to say goodbye. If she's innocent, maybe we'll talk, and if she isn't, she'll be gone by the time I get back. What she did will make her hard to grieve.

Entry One
CJ was asked what a clanmother truly is today. "A guide, a leader, a caretaker". I can lead for sure. I've been less certain about the caretaking aspect as of late. Maybe I just need to slow down? I don't know. Vulkwasten moves really fast; I should just try to spend more time with the babies. It's not that far of a ride.

Invisible Ink
Even as a priest of Arkay, this would still be an issue. Do I really want to go down that path? I've put so much effort into clanmothering so far. Then again, it's a really big sacrifice. Would shunning this dream honor Him? Would it dishonor the Moons? It's only an inkling in the back of my head for now. I didn't go see the priest of Arkay in Rawl'kha. I don't want to make the decision just yet.

If I forget about the caretaking, I could be a Steward some day, but do I really want to take that route when there are so many I'd love to see cured instead?

-Perform religions ceremonies with the priests and priestesses. (I don't even know much about Jone and Jode, honestly)
-Keeps history, values, traditions (Easy enough with the time I set aside for writing as it is)
-Chieftain leads a militia (I still think JV is a good candidate)
-Some clans have no clanmother and just a chieftan; clanmother always female (I could be chieftan, maybe. Put JV in a high rank? I can't remember if I've even asked him to join my clan.)
-Non-khajiit can be in the leadership position. Not common. (Will cross that bridge when I get to it)

We spoke of skills we neglect, as opposed to ones we define ourselves by, today. Kn said she isn't wriitng as much, which makes me a little sad. Her stories are on par with CJ's, though both are fun to hear in their own unique ways. This one really handsome bosmer with even more questions than I usually have, Vilkwin, said that he used to balance large things on his head while he worked. I kind of want to try that. Who better to balance things than a khajiit, right?

CJ's grandmother wrote "Anything that is easy to set aside is easy to pick up once gain...a nap feels good in the moment, but a new skill will feel good for life." Even if it's only five minutes a day, you still practice. I don't remember the middle part of what she said. The people who bring notebooks with them are smart to do that. I should get a second one to write less private things in.

I wonder what my Gram would have written. She probably didn't know how. I should write about the werewolves and the Nightshade Free Company soon, before I start forgetting details. Maybe the training, too? I'm not sure. It's not as exciting as killing monsters, but there's an important lesson to it. Maybe more than one.

-Senche statues ward away evil spirits
-Azura gave khajiit different forms. Linked us to Ja Kha'jay/Lunar Lattice. Jone and Jode are siblings of Azura. Knew about the Lattice. Forgot about Azura if it was brought up in that one meeting.
-Possibly different Azurah? CJ pronounced it with an H-sound; said it's a divisive topic among khajiiti. Will have to ask around. Maybe ask Lc, too; she uses the name a lot.

Entry Two
A letter, pasted in. It's in Wraesha's hand.
Keys,
This might be the hardest letter I’ve ever had to write. If you need help reading some of these words, ask Alijham. I’m sure you know everything by now, and you’ve probably shut down, and tried to forget about me. But I want you to read this whole letter anyway, just so I can get this off my chest. You were maybe the best thing that’s happened to me since moving here. You reminded me so much of me, that I sort of got carried away, and thought you’d grow up to be just like me. I’m honestly glad it’s not looking like that anymore. Whenever you were around, I felt like I needed to do better. I guess I wasn’t very good at that, huh?

I’m so proud of you. When I met you and you told me you were going to be a hero, I thought you were just some crazy kid on the road, but now I know you were right. When you say you want something, you go out and you make it happen. You’re going to change the world someday. You’ve already changed the lives of your family, and everyone that you’ve met just by being you. Don’t lose your heart. I mean it. It’s inspiring. You’ve got this infectious smile. The world is a tough place sometimes. I know you know that already. Keep your head up, and keep moving. I don’t know what you’re thinking, and I know you probably won’t at this point, but don’t dwell on me.

I don’t know what they told you about what I did, but you’re probably looking for answers at this point, and I don’t know how to give them to you. I did a bad thing, and I’m not proud of it. I’m not ready to face this right now, but I know I have too. I’m going to miss you most of all.

Send my love to Alyss, Jigs, Rats, Fadhi, and all your other siblings for me.

I love you Keys. You’re a good kid.

((A second, wax-sealed letter marked “Do not open until you’ve grown up.” is tucked away here, the seal unbroken.))

This was waiting for me in Vulkwasten. The shutting down part is right. The letter opened something back up, and now I'm a fucking mess. I'm glad I waited 'til night time to open it.

Thanks, W.

Should I have stuck around for her? Maybe. She probably would have done the same shit anyway and just been sneaky about it. I'm angry. How dare she write this sugar-coated letter after what she's done? I would punch her in the face if I saw her again. No words, just a punch. Right in the lying mouth. I gave and gave, and all she ever did for me was hire me for that fucking job. She had me run a con selling a fake black soul gem. In Morrowind, no less. If things had gone downhill...And then there was Anvil. I defended her from R, desperate not to find out what I already knew was in the crate. She shot me in the foot. She shot R. Twice. Was the second time even accidental? She'd have run away like she did on the ramp that first fight with the clannfear if she didn't mean to hurt her. How long would it have been before she betrayed me?

I am not fucking fine.

I guess Fernan-do will have to stand in for her when I train tomorrow.

Or maybe not. I'm mad, but it still hurts like I lost a good mom.

Killed a croc and some hoarvors with Kn and Am today. I was worried one of them would get hurt, but I was the one who got bit in the leg. MK (she has the M back, I guess) patched me up. BT was there. I thought he was banished. I'll catch up later. I had to sneak past A. I hope he isn't mad, but I didn't want to deal with it. Thank the Moons for that lady he was talking to.

Is it bad that I kind of wanted D and JV to break up? He can do better.

The nightmares are getting weird.

I was in town. Everyone was crying. I had to stop them from crying. They were making too much noise. I don't know why, but it was urgent. I also don't know why that dream was so scary at the time. It sounds dumb when I write it down.

W was pregnant. Rax was delivering it. I knew, the way you just know things in a dream, that W was going to tear open like that bosmer did. I was waiting to kill Rax and take the baby away. I don't know where, or whether I was keeping it or handing it to an orphanage or what. It just had to be somewhere else, far away from its real parents. Anywhere but the Green. There were guards around, but that detail seems more important now than it did while I was asleep. Why would I kill Rax? It's W I'm mad at.

I was the clanmother, sitting in a temple like CJ does. I looked at the attendees. Half the faces looking back at me were too pale, some others had wolf eyes, and the rest were awfully calm given the daedric presence. I tried to reach for my silver dagger, but it fell from my hand, then re-appeared in its skabard. I tried the same with my cure disease potion, with the same result, then I tried to grab my sword but I was in formalwear and didn't have one. I must have been sort of aware I was dreaming, because the sword appeared next to me, but I dropped that, too. It happened over and over again - grab something, my hand slips, it re-appears. There was hot breath at my back and a wolf's jaws in my perifiral vision before the dream just ended there.

All the kids were huddled together on the exposed floor of a destroyed clinic and there was a flood rising. Countless Daedroth were swimming in circles around us, preparing for a feeding frenzy once the rains brought them up enough. We only had training weapons. The Daedroth were whispering something, but I couldn't understand it. Worse yet, every kid was speaking a different language and we all seemed to realize this, trying to signal and write, but we couldn't understand one another, either. That one makes more sense, given the recent crocodile incident. It's also a lot closer to the dreams where I'm back in the siege, by myself, with ten times the daedra on the ground that there were during the real thing.

When I woke up, I punched the floor next to me. My knuckles still hurt from that. I drank both my potion and the one I carry for Arrow. I also checked the hallway, storage room, and tavern. There's nobody awake. No bite marks as far as I can tell. I even undid my bandages, but the wound is closed up and healing over just fine. It was only a dream. If it was a real werewolf, I'd be dead.

I hear a noise like doors slamming, but all the doors in here are curtains? It's not waking anybody up or causing anyone to yell about the noise. Maybe it's just the rain.

I had no idea T and Lc were related. They don't look that much alike to me. Also, D is an ohmes I guess. Her horns were an illusion and her dad was racist, if I recall correctly. If he was a racist, why would he marry an ohmes? Was she faking being a bosmer, too? That sounds like a difficult feat.

We trained in mounted combat today. I'm not very good at it, but I'll get better. I did knock Ad off his horse, which I wasn't expecting. I still feel kind of bad for shooting at his neck, though. He's in enough pain.

Sounds like there will be more lessons with mounts, which is good. Arrow and I hunt, but fighting intelligent targets and horses is a lot different. I feel like in a real fight, I'd just kill the horse. A shame, but it's effective in knocking the enemy down and injuring or killing them.

DN was talking about writing her story down, and finding her happy satisfying ending. I'd love to read it. I still have to write the next one...and maybe edit the first to be easier on D. I don't want to cause more tension between us, even if I still don't like her much.

Invisible Ink
I already miss OM. He gets to read them first. I hope nobody eats the courier. Running low on invisible ink, but it comes as a whole kit. Maybe I should find someone who can replikate this stuff before I run out.

((Edited version of the troll story from earlier))
I thought it was going to be like any other training session. The heat made me purr in my armor and as usual, I saw the small crowd and hoped I wasn't late. A bosmer named Lucrezia was our acting Steward at the time.

A man came running up from the south road, asking for our help as people often do. His dog was missing - its nose didn't work well enough for it to find home, and he was willing to pay us to find it. I would have helped for free, but I didn't mention that. It's that compulsion to help that makes me want to be a clanmother some day. Lu knew this, and she offered me the lead for the job. I agreed to it, and she sent the legendary Afer and the broom-wielding Bucket Knight with me. Arrow, a Senche khajiit who lets me ride on his back, came along as well.

We went to the spot where the dog was last seen. My loyal lion sniffed him out from there - the trail led us inside a cave. Caves make me nervous, but I've never let that stop me. We followed the main tunnel and came to a still pond's shore. Across it, atop a high stone ledge, was a forest troll.

It was a huge, pungent thing covered in green fur like lichen. The dog was bleeding next to it while it feasted on some unrecognizable corpse. The four of us - myself, Afer, the Bucket Knight, and our employer - huddled behind a root and planned while Arrow manned the cave entrance. Afer wanted to charge right in, as is his style, but I was having none of it. I wouldn't lose him and the Bucket Knight had only cleaning supplies for a weapon and helm. I ran back to town as fast as I could and yelled for the Guild. They weren't within earshot when I found the training grounds. Thankfully, I remembered another spot we use for duels sometimes. Everyone was there with bows.

One girl, Dissy, kept insisting on using fire arrows. In the Green. I told her not to, but she's brash. With no time to argue, I ordered the Guild to get ready. Another Guild-mate, Cirlin - one of my first friends from Vulkwasten - wanted to bring a kitten for some reason. She still had it when we met at our checkpoint. I commanded her to bring it back into town and let a mutual friend of ours catsit. I worried about how we would face a troll with this group, but I couldn't let the gnawing at my stomach consume me whole. I knew that as long as we stuck together, we stood a chance. I brought my archers to the cave and explained the plan. Draw it down the stone ledge. Shoot the eyes out. Attack the legs. Hopefully it would fall forward and drown in the pond below. We spent too long talking. Our noise attracted the troll's attention.

Dissy took over my archers. With the monster's three eyes on us, it was too risky to call her out on undermining my authority like that. My heart sank as arrows hissed past the troll's head, only a few striking its ugly face. The Bucket Knight rescued the dog behind it, but I had no time to see if either of them caught one. Afer jumped in too soon and started yelling and distracting the beast. Our melee fighters came at it in a flurry of blades. I fought too carefully, in hindsight. Still, I managed to lodge my sword into the back of the troll's knee. Pushing through my own fear and the nigh-unbearable stench of wet, bloodied troll fur, I looked to check on the others and saw the Bucket Knight flying at the screaming monster's maw with his broom held in both hands.

I thought he was a goner. It was only a few seconds, but I could picture it so clearly. The notion that the troll would grab him and fling him to the cave walls filled me with dread. I may have already been grieving his loss in my mind, but my eyes told a different story.

Our brave Knight shoved his broom down the troll's throat. I was still behind it. As I watched, sure we'd come back down one Swordsman, a silver speartip glimmered through the fur at the back of its neck. We all scrambled back as it fell, nearly suffocating on the boquet of the previous smells and whatever we'd stirred up in the long-stagnant pond. It took me a second to register that we had won. My chest swelled with pride and for a moment, I forgot the true goal of the mission. I extracted one of its teeth for a trophy and checked on the others. Nobody had so much as a scratch except for our foul green foe and the dog, but the pup was alive and his master patched him up while we fought. My first mission was a success.

-The end of this part. More to come.

Ew. That one little word - it's not even a fucking word - felt like a sword through the heart each time.

I've racked my brain all night after that party. Womer call me pretty - the ones who mother me more than anyone else - but the last time a man did, I still lived in Anvil. And he was drunk. Most of them were, most of the time. They say booze makes girls look prettier.

Or pretty at all.

The party was weird. The sweets were enchanted - they made us all think we were our costumes. A lot of people dressed up like werewolves, too. I'm glad R didn't let me go down to the beach; there are real pirates out there right now. I'm also glad she apparently wasn't hungry. I saw Ali's ex-wife after. It sounds like they have a lot to work out? Ad and E are back together, but Ali and that womer probably won't do the same. It sounds like she doesn't want to listen to him, from where I stand.

Also, Rs is back. He's going to teach me how to fight with a curved sword.

I don't need to be pretty. Being pretty is for finding love, and love is just a big, complicated mess that doesn't seem worthwhile. I am a Fighter. I can be fierce instead.

I can't be mean to Fn. Not after what he told me today. The same could have happened to me, except now I always carry silver and potion. He's re-joined the Guild.

WF's got a litter of four. It went a lot better than last time.
R and Th put down the dog that bit that girl. The girl's arm is gone, but she's alive and grateful.
A and L aren't mad at me. I got to hang out with Kn.

That's one happy thing, but as far as I'm concerned, it counts as a hundred, even if that ritual was terrifying. That swit BT put me in Reaper's March instead of Vulkwasten so I have no idea where Z and OM are now.

I guess Z can tell me what happened himself if he makes it through the night. The threatening whatever-it-is is still out there, after all. I'll make him some sweetbread and hope he can stomach it. And that I can find him, preferably before T or R or someone else does.

Z recently tried to kill R, I guess. She says she won't touch him unless he acts first, so I guess I have until he's better to convince him not to.

WF is a wolf. Can I just have a moment to grieve before something else gets added to the pile? I had about five minutes to cry for Dr when I told Z about him. I've been laying here thinking about him and YM for...long enough that the fire's died down some. I've been in and out of the clinic. I should just get someone to cast calm spells on me all the time. Everything just melted away without the need for moon sugar, but it felt kind of like being just high enough. I'm high right now. It's not good, but it FEELS good. Everything is light and fluffy. I could float right up to the moons except I'm indoors.

R said writing a letter helps. She also said she's going to marry Th. Not sure how I feel about that.

((A letter to YM))
YM,

I am so sorry. I should have got that cure faster. Taken more risks. Not relied so much on others. I should have helped the others look for you when I heard you'd gone missing. Maybe we could have talked at least one more time. R says it isn't my fault, but I can't help feeling it is. I keep flip-flopping on whether I'll ever help another vampire. Losing you hurts more than anything else I've ever been though.

I never got to tell you when you were alive (sort of), so I guess this is where I admit that I have a big, stupid baby crush on you. I wish I could have seen you smile really big or laugh, even if the sight of fangs on a mer still unnerves me to this day. It should. If I were wise, I would have left you in that barn and never thought of it again, but I'm not. I still think a lot about that painfully short moment where I held your cold hand and could hardly focus on what you were saying for it. Despite my grief now and the fear I felt for you then, it's a happy memory. I know it would have never worked between us. I'm sure I would have grown out of the crush eventually, had I been able to cure you and bring you back to town. I wish we could have become better friends like I did with the other altmer I was in a similar situation with (sans curses). I'm not sure how this is supposed to work when your crush dies. I'll probably still get over it, but it feels so heartless to say that. It's so hard to let go.

Infatuation or no, I love you. That part will never change.

Goodbye, my friend.

Should I write more? That only made me more sad, but also...lighter. I'll try to lay off on the moon sugar tonight.

Something's in my head. Moon sugar doesn't help. Booze doesn't help. I even tried meditating. That dream...something about thralling...I feel fine. A thrall would be walking around like a zombie, right? I should ask OM, but what if the thing that got us figures out what and where he is? I can't risk it. What do I do?

I killed W in the dream. I watched what looked like the moment before she tried to skin MS, and then I killed her. Would I do it in real life? I did it right in front of everyone. F saw me stab everything. Everyone did.

I need to learn Daedric, I guess. It could come in handy on future Guild jobs. At least silver doesn't seem to bother me. Those dreams could have been a lot worse.

I don't want to sleep again. I'm going to get some coffee.

I took a lot of moon sugar and slept. I don't dream when I take sugar. Or at least, I don't remember it. I think I was getting too paranoid, but there's still something in my head. I can feel it there, like the nagging thought that you had to do something, but can't quite remember what it was.

Watched the guards train today. They should really consider a uniform helm if there isn't one. I don't think I've ever seen one wearing a proper one before the orc did.

I hope the lady I met at the tavern doesn't stick around. She also said 'ew' in reference to me, but it didn't sting like it did when Ad said it. I just sassed her back. It isn't as fun when it isn't tongue-in-cheek.

W is back. Ali says I shouldn't harbor negative feelings for her. I think that's impossible.

I'm going to try to think of more positive things again.

I killed a maormer today. It looked like Mel, but it wasn't him. It took a while to convince myself it wasn't. I'll send him a letter - I'm sure he's fine. I owe him a visit.

E is doing better, I think. She was kind of mean to Dw, but we'll see how that goes. Dw is an adult; she can bring it up herself if it bothers her that much.

WF is dead. So, not positive per se, but it's one less werewolf and SK gets closure. Her babies were safe, last I checked. I think the wise thing to do will be to avoid checking again and just assume they're fine.

My babies are fine. SK found someone to teach them Ta'agra. She's learning a little bit herself and we're going to trade books around next time I go over there. She's found some on khajiiti culture.

I got to hang out with LV a while. I forgot how relaxing it is to just sit around and talk about nothing with someone for a while. It wasn't all nothing, but I'm focusing on the positive here.

Jig is missing in action and left Dw and me in no state to go looking. I sent Arrow off, but he lost the scent and came back to me. It felt gross, snooping through Alyss's his room. His journal is in there. I really don't want to read it, but it might hold the answer. I'll try every other option I've got first.

Learned a couple of townsfolk have lost children. I don't know why, but it just kind of hit me, how real the danger of growing up on the streets was for all of us. Maybe it was a combination of that, having lost people so recently, and Jig being out there alone.

Happy things:
I have help if I go looking again.
Got to hang out with more friends today.
Heard a good, true, love story. Wasn't just a romance, but that played heavily into it. I guess if it's about friends or family it's always technically a love story, isn't it?
Named a drink. Flin and orange juice is tiger juice. It fits not only because of the colours of the drinks, but the way the warmth in one's throat and belly is reminissint of Elsweyr.

I can't wait for things to get relatively peaceful enough that I can get away again.

Scouts are out there looking for Jig. I want to help them, but these injuries are too bad. I couldn't beat E today. I should have been able to win. She's got a concussion. She shouldn't have even been fighting, but I'm not going to argue with her. That's for Ad to do.

Rs joined us after the fight. He taught Dw and I to meditate. It's hard - you try to reach the void, but thoughts keep filling up your head. Had I been out there alone, I would have probably tried something dumb. Or is it dumb? Enough driftwood and rope and maybe I could get across relatively safe.

It hasn't even been that long since last time I got away. Maybe I just need a longer vacation, I don't know.

Took off to a couple places over the past few days. First I helped A find Kn. OM and Z came with us - I was worried about OM's condition, but he held up okay and we recovered Kn successfully. I finally got to see Kvatch, too. We watched some fights at the arena. I mentioned to OM that we should do something fun some time.

After that, we went to Skywatch. Rz cooked us some spiders. Ad and E were there, too - we explored a shipwreck and tried to climb up to these weird rock formations, but we could only get to the little one. Skywatch is gorgeous - E was talking about how all the altmer girls have weddings there. I could see it so clearly in my head. I wonder if it's similar on Khenarthi's Roost. Reaper's March is kind of a grim place to have my wedding some day, but maybe somewhere in the Valenwood? Or on the beach near town, if I married here. For all I know I'll be all the way in Skyrim or something by the time I'm ready for that, though. Still, it's fun to think about. If it were Skyrim, I'd want someplace with big windows so you could have a nice warm fire going, but still see the pretty snow.

Finally got a lead on Jig. I should have just read his journal in the first place - he's being stupid and his spelling is atroshus. By the time I got the nerve up, it was too late to go looking for him. I've been dumb, too, hunting in the woods at night when I can't sleep. There's all kinds of threats out there, and I'm well aware that my strength in a fight is heavily reliant on the Guild. I don't know if I could face something like the mormer or the werewolves without their numbers on my side. I hope Jig learns that lesson, too. If he even sur No, no, no. I'm not going to think like that.

I'm getting away from myself here. He mentioned ruins. I'll ask around, get a map of every ruin within a few days' walk of here. Maybe I'll go with the mages if they'll let me. The necklace itself has a green gem and some runes. I wonder if emeralds have magical properties like that argentwhatever stuff B enchanted A's axe with was?

I had almost forgotten that someone is spying on us. I need to remmeber the name Azum, and that she had speckly silver fur. I feel kind of bad for any real courier that tries to find a khajiit I just made up, though.

I really hope my hiding spot for my journal holds up well, if they're snooping through our rooms.

I told Al the one about the werewolves. I really need to get that on paper before I forget more, but I'm just worried about Jig and can't sit still for long right now. Not to mention, the amount of new people at the tavern also had me worried. Anyone could be spying on the Fighter's Guild. A couple of them questioned me about being so young as a Fighter. Sometimes I forget that Vulkwasten is this bubble where people know me and think I'm a badass, and the rest of the world is a little more skeptikal. This one lady said she does 'logistics' which I think means recovering stolen stuff? She was super shady. She said her brother was msising, too, and come to think of it, she might have been sent to try to get under my skin.

I have an awful lot of paranoid thoughts. They're merited.

At least I'm fairly sure they are.

T is also missing. TR wasn't the TR that greeted us outside the ruin and went away with him. I wonder if this is like the situation with B and Rs? I certainly hope not.

Ad caught the logistics khajiit trying to steal a ring. She kept trying to pull the race card, then the other guard started talking about how his girl is an altmer and it was just really uncomfortable. Why are other khajiit so obnoxious lately?

Ugh, there's so much to write about, but I have to be careful. Maybe I should just buy another invisible ink kit and paint the box different and get rid of everything but the ink and lens? A second lens would be useful for keeping in Rawl'kha, I guess. Or I could ask an alchemist about just making me some invisible ink? I think Ali would.

T is still missing, and between him and Jig and what W implied about T, I just couldn't. Especially when the fog was back after we got back from the desert. I used the portal stone R sent to visit on the pretense of following a lead even though we know T isn't at R's. ML and Th were there. I was even kind of happy to see Th again until

I won't write that part.

She said it was safer than Vulkwasten there, but then these two mer showed up - a dunmer and an altmer, both speaking Dunmeris. I learned cheldur (sword) and bro (food) and...juli? Is that how you spell it? I don't know what it means, but I can say it and pick it out of a sentence. Ay and the argonian who pickpocketted W was also there. I guess he's friends with R or something. Didn't see S or St. Maybe they were busy. I don't know if I want to go back, at least for long. Maybe just to the cavern? I wish I could bring Arrow.

We found T. Sun and Void were there...I think the other one was Moon? I heard someone say it was a little grey and white one that died. There were two T's there when we found him. E and Storm got hurt, and I think someone else? I kept accidentally talking to W. She was following because of me I guess. I hope she doesn't do that a lot. Not for the sake of her safety, though; just my sanity. Ad and this khajiit he works with for J kept bickering while we were trying to figure out which T was real.

I slept in the Fighter's Guild hall - the little one in town, not Degala's - but things seemed tense between T and TR while they were in there. It doesn't help that whatever took him seems to have injured his throat so he can't talk. I think T left to beat up the Fake T. I would have done the same thing.

My brother almost lost all his blood. Seeing him like that makes me wonder if I should be in the Fighter's Guild. Or if any kid should be in either of them. We got pulled into Oblivion for a while there. Thank the moons a portal out worked. And that's exactly the sort of thing the Fighters go after. I thought the Mage's Guild was easier. I guess it was only a fluke that I tagged along on such an easy one.

We know I can handle it, but I'm setting an example as a Swordsman at my age. We can't just have weaker kids following suit. Even the Legion would have me wait another three years. The daedra that possessed him said he envies my accomplishments, but is encouraging kids like Kana and Falen to get accustomed to killing really that enviable? Should I really be so proud to wear this armor? We save lives, but there has to be something left to come home to. Nobody wants to lose a child.

On the other hand, it's precisely the situation Jig got himself into that we fight to prevent and remedy. This all started because of the Siege. I couldn't just go home knowing daedra were attacking a town, but I could - and should - have left after it was safe to go. I should have used the run to Anvil to just go home. I had skill with a bow and arrow by then, and there's plenty of game on the Gold Coast. I could have fed everyone with maybe an antelope a week and taught my siblings how to hunt, too. I can't dwell on what I can't change, though.

Shit happens and we have to be prepared, but is it so wrong to do what everyone says I ought to and just be a kid for a while? I've always felt like it was too late. Maybe it isn't, though. Maybe I can go with my old plan: Split my time between Rawl'kha and here, and spend more time with the babies. It occurs to me that they haven't seen my new dye job. I'll stay a while to see Jig back to health, and then I'll go home for a stretch.

I should cut ties with the ((this word is scribbled out)) I know about, too.

Minor-ish spoilers
I can't really cut ties with 5. I won't fight them. I won't snitch on them. The point is no more blood on my hands for a while, mine or otherwise.

T announced he was leaving last night. That was before 4 showed up, thank the moons. I couldn't steal his thunder. We all hugged him and talked about how the Fighter's Guild is a family. They still would be if I left, and I'm sure I'd be welcomed back if I wanted to. I just can't seem to find the right moment to say it. Jig and 4 know. I had thought about taking L aside and talking to her alone before I found out her mom died. I think I know what A would say. E just joined and I don't know Storm that well. BK? Ad? Maybe I should wait until we work out who the new Steward is, but then again, I'd feel like I was letting them down if the first thing that happens when they're picked is someone quitting.

Would I be letting them all down by quitting anyway? My reasons are solid. Stress aside, if I'm to be a clanmother some day, I can't be in a neutral organization. But that's a long ways off. Am I scared because I'm afraid of letting myself down?

Maybe I should talk to someone who isn't in the Fighter's Guild at all.

I bet that guy's head would have exploded if I gave LV a hug in front of him. Maybe I will next time. I wonder what it's like to constantly have people attack you for something you're not even guilty of. So many khajiit spot grey skin and just go fucking insane. Having been mistreated is no excuse to be so ignorant. It was like that at the Clanmother's meetings, too. Just say the word 'dunmer' and CJ had to call for everyone to cool their heads for a minute. It usually ended in some cat leaving in a huff.

I wonder what that's going to be like in my clan, seeing as I'm going to welcome dunmer with open arms. Any mer, for that matter - so long as they want to be there, and are safe for my people to be around.

I still don't know nearly enough stories, legends, and traditions to rightfully call myself 'clanmother'. I also apparently have some maturing to do. Seeing Kiri get B's attention over mine kind of made me jealous today. She's got this fancy staff, and Jig is a prodigy, and all I can do with magic is make a pathetic little snowball. Knowing it's just dumb baby jealousy doesn't make it feel any better.

Rs wanted me to stick a needle in his head. Thank the moons E came into town during that conversation. Even she was unwilling to do it. I guess half his face melted off or something. That's going to be some lovely, long-burning fuel for my nightmares.

My policy as clanmother will be to let my guards break up brawls and talk to those involved while they're in jail. If I have time. Is that a thing clanmothers do? I feel like it should be. It'll be a thing that I do. I should ask that girl who lost her arm.

I told A about leaving. He took it surprisingly well. I felt most of the anxiety fade away when he said my justification for it is reasonable, but there's still this little knot in my stomach kind of feeling. I don't know why it's there. Moon sugar is only a temporary fix, and not the healthiest one at that. Meditating just frustrates me more because I fret over whether I'm doing it right. I guess it's not as bad as all the other stuff I've been through, though, so I shouldn't complain too much.

We have a treethane now, I guess. I hope I get to learn a lot from her. The archery game we played was fun. I guess it's a game for bosmer kids, which explains why the bosmer we already have never really mentioned it. The only bosmer kid in town that I know of is Fn, and it'd be a lot harder to play that with just one eye.

The bosmer who came to town want to make sure we're all following the Green Pact. I'll admit I haven't followed it strictly, but I figured if I'm not turning into a tree, I've got to be doing something right. Hopefully they don't find out about the arrows I've accidentally shot into trees from time to time. Or that one time I threw a knife and it wound up in the tree behind the Fighter's Guild ramp instead of in the target.

It doesn't usually bother me when people are racist towards me, but tonight was different. Leleana said the townsfolk elect a Treethane and it's weird for Treethane Josie and her people to just show up like that. I'm kind of glad they ignored me for the mammoths now - Kiri seemed a little confused for a moment after hitting her head and moons know I've had enough concussions, myself. Apparently the clinic has some, but I don't need it any more, anyway. I hope I'm never weak-willed enough to think I'd need it again. It still hurts to think about the afflicted I lov know knew.

There are lots of new people in town, and MS is back. I guess the bartender khajiit lost his tail - what is it with our people and losing limbs?

MM mentioned there's a market for the eyeballs. Some weirdo bosmer bought some off of me this morning, but I still have a lot. I think I'll take some of this stuff to Bandaari and sell it off in bulk. The bones, at least, are popular.

I've learned at least a dozen new uses for them. Off the top of my head: Boiling and baking them makes a fertilizer, good for sale outside the Green. I never really noticed before, but a lot of people use them to fuel their fires here. Bone char also makes a decent black dye.

I'm back in Vulkwasten. SK told me I'm grounded for three weeks. Kitten eyes are the only reason it wasn't a whole month. She's going home for her turn with the babies, but it sounds like she told my siblings and word will get around anyway. Jig is going to have a field day with this.

I'm not supposed to leave town unaccompanied and only during daylight hours. Which rules out that hour before dawn that's ideal for hunting and totally not fair.

No swimming for fun, just bathing, and checking my traps or doing paid jobs that require leaving town and fit the rest of the rules. I wonder if one of the Fighters could be convinced to take me and just say it's for a job. I'm still an associate. We can just say we failed to get the gold, right? Or I could just go with someone for a boring errand. Still better than being stuck in town.

No sweets. She put my moon sugar in pouches to ration it for nightly prayers; that's all I'm allowed. I don't like that she went in my room and touched my stuff. Not for this, anyway. It doesn't feel right to ration moon sugar, either. I use however much feels right. My journal is pretty well-hidden and it's the only thing I really have to hide, but I want more privacy than that anyway. It's a matter of prinsiple.

I have to check in with someone same as I check in with her. She wasn't clear on that; I can probably cheat that one some. Arrow counts. He follows me around everywhere anyway.

And each sibling gets one chore to make me do per week. Fucking gross.

BORED.

Watched B fight some other mage on the beach, though. A let me get away with that one, and it's not like Arrow can snitch. I think he wanted to get out of town for a bit, too.

I'm ungrounded now. I snuck out of town with Ad, Kiri, and Kn before it was official, but SK doesn't have to know that. At least the secrets I'm keeping are getting back to normal kid stuff lately.

I just took a walk outside and everything looks greyer. Is it the dark or is something wrong with my eyes? I guess I'll find out in the morning.

(The following entries are in a separate book - a thin one with a soft hide cover and a bent and broken steel latch. Unlike the previous two, this volume would not be hard to find and snoop through; it's stored in Keys' go bag, which is sitting in the Cormount Fighter's Guild hall.)

I guess the Vulkwasten heart tree is sick, but I'm not as worried about that as I ought to be. It's been nice, hunting in new parts of the woods and exploring Cormount. I slept in the Fighter's Guild last night and I'm going to look for new places to hide out here. Zalya asked about my sisters - I think they'll be good for her. Afer told us about the scar on his face. Even Kashya seems a little more open lately, though it seems to be a cycle of sorts with her. I guess I'll learn to pick up on these things faster. Given what Estre said about her childhood dreams, though, I have to wonder what I'll think of this clanmothering goal when I'm older. Will I give it up some day? I hope not.

It's a shame there's no treethane here; I'd like to meet one. I like to think I'm reasonably well-versed in Bosmeri customs by now, but there's a lot to learn. Maybe I ought to take this chance to visit Elden Root, but I feel like I'd miss out if I took a day out for that. Telling stories and making dinner together in the new Fighter's Hall gave off this sense of community that I felt more strongly here than in Vulkwasten. Maybe that should be a clan tradition - a story after a communal meal.

I hear birds waking up outside. There are a lot of them here; it's the same amount of noise as Anvil's markets, but prettier - I bet the game will be easy pickings from this place being empty so long.

Rat's here and led us into the nearby ruin. He's at least quicker to see sense than Jig, although part of me wants to go back and see more of the place. With adults. And silver. And maybe someone who can talk to ghosts.

We also found a neat treehouse near town. It's close enough that we probably won't get lost on the way back, but far enough that we can hide out there. The tunnel to Reaper's is conveenient, too. Between that, the abundense of game, and the bad memories of Vulkwasten I have, I'm starting to think maybe we should stay here. I'll go where my friends do, though. It'd be too dangerous to just stay behind.

Our gem was haunted. We managed to help the ghost go to the afterlife and still sell it to the Magister. I think maybe I should have aimed higher when haggling for it, but sixty drakes apiece isn't too bad. We also named the fort. Joonya and Lucia were mad about us looting the ruin. It's amazing how fast Cormount is starting to feel like home. Then again, Vulkwasten was like that, too. Am I just able to settle in anywhere? Some say 'home is where the heart is'. I guess my heart is with these people.

Moons is that ever sappy. Gross. I'm going to bed before this gets any worse.

I snuck off to Reaper's March today. I ate a dandelion and Arrow and I ran as fast as we could, just because the ground was so flat and we didn't have to pick through dense jungle. It feels good to be closer to Elseweyr. I think the ride to Rawl'kha was shorter from here, or at least felt that way. I should head up some time soon; the babies have a cold.

Anyway, everyone keeps asking me about Heart's Day like I'm some kind of expert. Shouldn't they ask an adult? I'm giving the best advice I can. I still think that I need to get my heart broken a few times before I can give solid answers on this sort of thing. Is romance all anyone can think about? Maybe I should find or write a story about how there's more kinds of love to celebrate. Maybe I could play off of that first story I wrote. The original is back at the house somewhere, if the babies haven't got at it.

When I came back from bagging my first deer, I found out that we aren't going back to Vulkwasten. Thunder stolen. I was proud of that kill, but there are bigger things to worry about than a selfish desire for attention right now. Arrow is happy with me, at least. The town needs things to trade. Good thing I sent most of my stuff to the house. I asked Ashi to teach me how to carve. He's still figuring bone out, but I can get some wood for the raw bones I have, I guess. It should bring in more than just selling the raw materials, once I'm decent at it.

Need to be careful of the Argonian lady. She seems to have similar goals to me...and a mutual friend we saw at Gladee Gladi however-you-spell-it's party. I'm reluctant to get too close because of that. I've lost en(The ink is blotted here.) I'm glad everyone got along there.

Note to self: Find a way to get a rain collection barrel. It's hard to find a spot to bathe here.

I forget to write more often these days. Hunger is the main thing on my mind. Saw an old friend recently, and seem to be making a new one whether I like it or not. I'm not going to snitch on her for the thing I know, for now. We can't even keep one khajiit from disturbing the peace at Seer Dan's moonlight service, after all.

For once, booze may be the genuine answer to our problems. We're taxing it heavily to raise funds for the town. I'm going to go up and sell some animal parts soon. Maybe I'll hunt there, too. I've seen antelope around the area. We even brought up the idea of setting up a moon sugar farm there. It'll be nice to get that going, and get some millet and livestock while we're at it. I never really thought about how all this has to come together, but it's good stuff to know for a clanm future clanmother.

The bright side to all of this, for me, is that when it comes time to establish clan lands, I'll have done it before.

I get the biggest haul I've seen since the deer, and all I can keep down is broth. I've been this hungry before, but not for a long time. I feel like such a wuss.

I hope there's still some tomorrow. I'll need the energy to hunt.

It's the middle of the night. So much for energy. I keep having nightmares about that dead guy.

The hunger pangs are getting more manageable, though I still constantly worry about where my next meal will come from and I feel weak when I do things like try to climb trees. It makes catching big game a lot harder.

I told the origin story of the khajiit last night. Parts of it make me uncomfortable to say - it's clearly meant for our people to tell each other, but saying the last part with Kinay in the room was awkward. I don't know how sacreligious it would be to change it, but I want to. It's too hard on the Bosmer.

Shit. I forgot it's our birthday - I need to find something to give Jig and Rat.

Big spoiler
I should hate the Hungry Cat for afflicting all my friends, but Arkay presrve me and Stendarr have mercy, my arrows really do fly truer when I ask it of him. What hunts better than a cat with an empty belly?

I hope it was enough to leave him the fattest hare in thanks.

It's been too long since I've written here. It's hard to keep track of what all happened (and in order at that), so I'll just write down what I can risk people finding, without worrying about what came first.

Saw some old friends both here and on the Coast. I thought Afer died, but he didn't. Alyss is running herself ragged trying to work with the mercenaries and then go back to Rawl to care for the cubs; I've been leaving Arrow with them often.

My hunts have been going better since I started praying over them. I'm not feeding the whole town, but there's game every day - at least enough to keep me from getting painful-hungry. Levis doesn't like that someone is hunting songbirds. Maybe I should offer hunting lessons some time.

The clinic got all fucked up, but the guy who called me Deadbolt the one time is fixing it.

I think the town might have gone a whole two weeks without a full clinic up until now. Maybe I should start helping the healers out again. I hope Lu's going to be okay.

I'm in Cormount.

We left Vulkwasten.

Lots of people left Vulkwasten.

My real name is Riz. The suffix -Daro might apply. A suffix is a modifier on the end of a word.

Mel taught me that. He's in Anvil.

There's a lot I can't write down.

I have nightmares all the time.

This entry is pasted in on a scrap of once-crumpled paper.

Need to find my journal again. I'm pretty sure it's in the old spot in the house.

Saw an old friend in Kvatch and did what I came to do. I hope it all works out for the one we're helping. We were bullshitting but he said I should try writing a play. What would I write about it? I've noticed plays are used to make a point more often than regular stories are. I guess that's where you start.

Maybe I'll just wait for some big important thing to happen in town and just base it off of that. I don't think all the stuff that's already passed is fresh enough in my memory for writing.

No time for the arena. I wish there was another day or two where I don't need to be anywhere, but I don't want to miss the next moonlight service, either. At least I got to help Evyrea out again while I was in Anvil. She doubles as an investigator, I guess, and she let me sleep in her shop after I helped her stitch this weirdo who tells really bad stories up. I wish his nord friend told one of his; he said maybe some day, but I don't know if I'll ever see those people again.

This huge mess with Afer has me feeling really hopeless. I'm supposed to be a leader. To know what to do all the time. I don't have a chief or council or anything to turn to; the adults are either unwilling to help or want to do dumb shit like plan a jailbreak. I want to go visit him, but Arrow's too fucked up to ride out there and protect me right now. He's just sleeping all day. It okurs to me that I don't know how old Arrow is, either. How much more fight is left in him? He probably went through a lot before he even met me. Afer and Arrow are both like dads. I don't want to lose them.
