Personality

A cheerful, irreverent man at first glance, Aurelius (or Rel as people often insist on calling him) presents a pleasant demeanor to all that meet him. Lurking beneath, however, is a man seeking repentance for the crimes he feels he has committed. This darkness, however, is not that which defines his life but merely drives his actions. In general he can be found genuinely enjoying the company of others, though eschews such things as heavy drink and other vices. Possessed of a calm, measured (and often dry) wit, he is rarely given to overt displays of emotion and instead keeps a tight rein on anything which might serve to cause people undue problems. Reluctant to form close bonds with others due to events in his past, he has nonetheless found himself closer than he'd bargained on to certain individuals he's recently worked and fought alongside.

Reason for Being Within Dominion Lands

After events in his past led to him to abandon what had become a poisonous cause to him, Aurelius embarked on a somewhat quixotic quest to aid those in need and right wrongs wherever he found them. In this he has shown no regard for alliance or sovereignty, considering himself an outcast of his own homeland with no firm loyalties to any of the factions that vie for what once was. Learning of the recent troubles of a small town within Valenwood, he set out to investigate with sword, shield, bucket, and his trusty steed, Mop.

Background

The eldest son of a wealthy merchant within the Imperial City, Aurelius grew up surrounded by luxury but thankfully removed from the intrigue of the social circles above. As the eldest out of three children, a younger brother and sister, he was instilled with a sense of duty to protect his siblings that translated into idolization of the imperial legion once he became older. It was the same year of Varen Aquilarios's rebellion and subsequent ascension to the throne that he took the step to join the legion itself. Though not his father's first choice in careers for him, he was pragmatic about joining as a junior officer as he understood that the hefty donations his father had made at a time in which the empire was dearly pressed for funds was tacit acceptance and he did not wish to create a rift with his family. If his ability did not measure up, of course, he had no questions that he would remain in a junior and unimportant role.

That, however, was not to be for a variety of reasons. In addition to being skilled within the legion he had spent his teenage years training and studying near-obsessively for, there remained a distinct lack of both manpower and trustworthy leadership after the fall of the Longhouse emperors and the expulsion of those loyal to them. Within a number of years he had been promoted repeatedly for both exemplary service and a pressing need for competent officers. This proved to be a mixed blessing, however, as he was in a position of relative authority when the events of the Planemeld occurred. The events following saw him attempting to keep order in a world gone suddenly insane, and things fell swiftly apart from that point on. Faced with a cause he could no longer put faith in Aurelius broke ties with what remained of the legion and set out on his own. Traveling the world from that point onwards by himself, he sought to right wrongs on his own wherever he found them.
