Dissy sat there. On the edge if the meager straw bed she had been told was hers. She kept replaying thoughts over and over in her head. She picked at the oversized threadbare tunic she had been given. She thought about the last time she saw J'Varr. He was smiling at her. She thought about Valenwood. But most of all, she thought about all the ways she was going to kill Sadri and Nammu. She thought about tying them to trees and covering them with honey. She thought about shooting an arrow through one's head and into the other. She thought about getting a healer, and stabbing them over and over, healing them, then repeating it until they died. Those thoughts kept her in relatively good spirits.
She slowly rose to her feet. She was fairly sore. She had been slapped, punched, and kicked last night. That followed after having a bar of soap put into her mouth and her lips sewn shut for hours on end. She didn't care. She still sassed Nammu. He'd eventually given up hitting her last night. She took it as a victory, and kept insulting him. She knew he couldn't do anything besides hit her. And she could easily take a hit.
She leaned against a wall and watched the door. She had refused to do much of any work thus far. She didn't care about the punishments. She just knew she'd be rescued soon. J'Varr wouldn't just leave her. Neither would Afer, Adsomar, and the others. She was determined to not let them break her.
And then, her thoughts took a darker turn. She thought about J'Varr. She thought about the new house he had bought for them. The one she had only stayed in twice before she was kidnapped. She thought about never seeing him again.
And she cried.
