OCC: so, I went on to find the old character profile to make some revision and general cleaning up, but guess what - couldnt find it >.< Apparently, my friends - Bethany is a figment of our combined imagination! So, not wanting to leave her in the limbo, I imported the new, updated form so that I too can spam it with updates! Huzzah! Seriously tho... don't spam it. It's... bad.

Bethany Hawke (Amelle)

|| RACE: Breton || CLASS: Templar || AGE: 31 || GENDER: Female || BIRTHPLACE: Unknown || OCCUPATION: Guild Mage/Enchantress || BIRTH SIGN: The Tower || SPECIALIZATIONS: Destruction/Enchanting/Telemancy ||

Physical Appearance

"...Those who happened upon the lady Enchantress, be it among the fashionable soiree hosted by the Duke, or the dusty halls of the local Chapter Librarium can often call to question her somewhat haughty demeanor... yet none dare to deny her striking beauty. Despite a relatively short height, she strides around the gilded halls as proud as a peacock, having little trouble parting the crowd on her path. And why would she? Locks of luxurious raven-black hair, fragrant with the delicate scent of wild flowers and berries tart, falling in a cascade over her shapely shoulders. Such contrasts with her pale visage, somewhat triangular in shape with a slightly receded chin. And yet, it is her eyes that captivated many a poor fool. Eyes of warmest amber... yet ones gleaming with a cold, penetrative gaze, in moments of great ire blazing with a livid blueish fire. The eyes, concealing wisdom and imperiousness, contrasting with her perceived youth. There is something truly enchanting about that gaze... and unnerving, at the same time. Perhaps it is the faint shade of violet within, an aftermath of a failed spell? Who knows... She does have a rather peculiar taste in colors, for I am yet to see her wearing naught but blacks and whites, perhaps a touch of silver... My point is, that such a beauty deserves admiration it receives. From a safe distance, granted..." - an extract from the letter by Marius Mantel, former Magister of Daggerfall Chapter of the Mages Guild, 2E 579.

Personality and Traits

"...Proud and secretive, a true daughter of Camlorn. Weaver of the honeyed words. A witch with a heart as cold as ice... those are but some of the epithets bestowed upon the woman in question. Coming from under the tutelage of the Iron Lady of Camlorn herself, should it really come as a surprise that the pupil mirrors lady Conelle so closely? Finally freed from her clutches it's a damned wonder that the girl had any heart left in her, at all! Yes, you heard me, I said she does have a heart! Somewhere deep beneath all that noble shite, that it... True, she is one mighty ambitious bird, always setting her sights high. And damned I be, if she ever goes half-ways to get what she desires! Using her honeyed words, beauty, or sheer intellect - every aspect of her being, whatever advantage it may bring to the field - you bet your sweet arse she'll use it. And when the smile and pretty face fails... boy oh boy, can she stare a man down. Still sends shivers down my spine, that gaze of hers...Stubborn and headstrong too. Yet, since she's still in one piece last time I checked... can't be all that bad eh? At least it's clear where her passions lie. She plays the game of the nobility well, but it's the magics, the secrets and all that forgotten lore that truly claim her heart. Everything else - simply a tool, a means to an end. I suppose with great learning also comes an equally big ego... a folly of many mages, unless it is also one of her many masks. Who the blazes knows... Still, she's big on loyalty and all that good stuff. Slow to trust, even slower open up to... yet the few lucky bastards that do count among her inner circle... heh, let's just say that Divines help any a fool that crosses them. She's mighty quick to anger, and damn slow to forgive. Heard she harbored a grudge for many a year... bah, enough of this chatter! Let's move on, least the Captain catches us ogling the lass again... Jealous whoreson." - from the mouth of the Camlorn Gate Guard, 2E 575.

"She uses big words, but she gives me free stuff so I like her" - Wraesha, 2E 583.

Abilities and Skills

"... recommend granting permission to access the restricted section of the Librarium. As far as I concern, Junior Enchanter Hawke had proved her worth time and again, out in the field as well as the College matters. Shor's bones, the lass is a natural with the Destruction School! Having already mastered the basis of Aetherian flame (yes, by Arkay's bleeding bones - THE Aetherian flame!); she managed to survive it without as much as a singed cloth! Mostly. The rest of the training court wasn't as lucky... Her affinity towards the sub-mastery of pyromancy seemed to supersede the rest, placing the lass in a peculiar position. The flame-based incantations flow easily trough her, and far stronger then they should. But, ask her to conjure an elemental manifestation of shock, or Kyne help me - frost... stars, do things go sideways fast. Still, her grasp on the theoretical aspects is that of a full-fledged Magister already... and the things she does well on practice, she does bleeding well. Hardly a surprise, considering she delves into Dwemeri ruins almost on a daily basis, the crazed fox. She talks non-stop about some sort of long-lost art, verbal casting or some-such... Sounds like a fool's errand to me, but if someone can make head or tail of that mire, it's her. Besides... her studies into the craft of the Enchanting advanced far beyond the limits of the Chapter basis. I mean, she tinkers with her cogs and gyro cores almost every moment of spare time... even managed to get one of those pesky 'spiders' running. Ysmir's breath, can you imagine! Apparently, she even picked up a thing or two about the wards... But for the love of Ysgramor, keep the lass as far away from the Ritual Chamber as possible! Last time she had attempted to perform an inter-planar summoning, I thought she had keeled over for good... Whatever it is, Padomeic energy is about as good for her as a barrel of Nightshade in your mead. Still, she managed to produce a stable, third-iteration rift! Third iteration! Conjuration at large may remain forever out of reach, but secondary aspects such as Telemancy, or planar-limited binding are still very much possible." - from the Writ of Admission by Magister Wulfred Sorrowsong, of Eyevea, 2E 582.

Early Life

Allegedly born on 13th of Frostfall, 2E 553, little is know about her biological family. Few of the passers by, who happened to be up and about during that night of particularly chilling, bitter cold recall a stranger, riding into the village of Fel's Run. Located at the boundaries of the Duchy of Northpoint, the region fell under the reign of the House Tamrith, renowned even beyond the kingdom of Rivenspire for their devout, nigh-fanatical dedication to Arkay's Chant of Light. The bitter chill of winter had drove most of the merchants off the road, and into the hearty embrace of the local inn, which is why the arrival of the cloaked rider, carrying a pair of tightly-wrapped bundles at his chest was all the more unusual. None knows why the man stopped by the house of Marcus Hawke, nor what he had spoken about... and yet, the following day the sleepy village was abuzz, as the childless couple gained not one, but two daughters over night.

The life within the village was far from ideal, yet girls found comfort and respite among their family, as well as each other. Timid and dreadfully shy, Bethany always followed her brash, adventurous sibling - Syanna, into any and all mischief around the valley. And while Marcus and his wife never made a spectacle of it, the village folk treated the kids with a measure of disdain, given their likely origin as bastard children. The situation grew even less pleasant, once Bethany, and shortly after Syanna began to manifest their Arcane abilities. Being the devout followers of the Light, the peasantry treated such with suspicion, at times bordering on outright contempt... However, as the girls had entered their early teens, storms had gathered over the kingdom. As the tension with the neighboring kingdom of Wayrest had grew to a breaking point, taxation had ravaged an already troubled land even further. 2E 566 saw the beginning of a brutal war, sowing death and despair across the entirety of Northern High Rock.

As the peasant revolts became a common-place occurrence, king Ranser of Shornhelm tightened his grip over the population into a steely stranglehold. Punitive expeditions raised many a hamlet, and the fate of Fel's Run was none the different. Being only 13 years old, Bethany was forced to behold the worst the humanity had to offer, as the sounds of roaring flame, and desperate screams had filled the chilly air. In their desperate escape from the doomed village, following the death of their adopted parents, the twins scurried off into the hills. Yet, it was not to be, for Syanna fell behind, trapped behind a falling beam even as the royal troops encroached. Petrified with dread, Bethany watched with widened eyes as the only home she knew was ravaged with ruthless, calculated brutality. As the primordial fear took over her mind, she ran towards the hill, deafened to the cries of her still trapped sibling... It was not long, before she stumbled across another band of refugees, amidst their desperate flight away from Rivenspire, and into the mainland high Rock. In time, her path lead her to the streets of the proud city-state of Camlorn. The very place where young Hawke was about to undergo a truly life-changing experience.

The Journey Begins

It is a matter of debate, as to how a young, orphaned girl had managed to survive on the harsh backstreets of Camlorn for months on. Was it pure luck, or perhaps the uncanny gifts had finally manifested themselves enough? One may never know. However, it was here that Bethany had made an ill-conceived decision, setting her life on an entirely different course. In desperate attempt to scrape by for yet another day, she attempted to lift a purse of a wealthy noble-woman, using whatever primitive mastery over Arcane she had. Maybe, she could had even got away with it, had the said woman not happened to be Magistrix Alexandra Conelle, the Iron Lady of the Ducal Court. yet, instead of punishing the would-be thief, the mage questioned the child extensively, before making quite possibly the most controversial decision of the time - extending the girl a single choice, an Apprenticeship within the folds of the Mages Guild itself. Was it a moment of whim? Or perhaps the woman saw something in that dirty kid, we may never know. But, does it truly matter, in the end?

As one not brought into such circle from birth, Bethany had started up an an enormous disadvantage to her peers. Yet, natural talents, combined with dogged determination and newly discovered love of learning had brought her at the fore, indue time. As an Apprentice to the Magistrix Conelle herself, she was inducted into the complex, and on occasion deadly mire of political landscape within the Court. Mastering the finer points of the etiquette, courtly manners and dress were nothing short of nightmarish, for the Iron Lady was a harsh task-mistress. Yet, as the time went by, Bethany began to delve deeper into the 'game', finding small snippets of satisfaction even as she emulated her mentor, learning how to play her opponents with devilish grace. By the time her Apprenticeship was done somwhere around 2E 570, none had a reason to question the Lady Hawke's upbringing. Even so, she craved for freedom as young people oft do. And so, the freshly-inducted Journeyman of the Mages Guild had set off towards horizon, knowing not that her life was about to take another turn...

Present Day

The following years were but a blur, a colorful kaleidoscope of events of various import. Joy, sorrow, friendship born and broken. Companionship, yes, even such, were found in places least expected. Yet, storms had made a habit of following her footsteps whenever she may set. Coup-d'etat within the local leadership, intrigue and treachery within the College of Enchanters, sinister shadows that surrounded the origin of hew own, to name a few... The latter having profound-most impact of all, as a bitter rivalry turned outright enmity between then Magister and the Grand Enchanter of the Counsel, had stripped away what little semblance of normality her life had gained. Having lost her husband and an Apprentice, as dear to her as one would treasure a daughter, the sole thing of value left was Magic. Setting aside her sorrows and remorse, Bethany dived head-first into the mysteries of Aurbis, believing it to be the purpose of her being. Treasuring Arcane as the sole, indivisible truth, the 'Greater Good' that transcends boundaries and politics, the reign of Dukes and Kings alike, her path is an audacious one. None can be gained if one isn't willing to accept a risk... a calculated risk, that is, having learned tenfold just how high the price of such an error could be...

Role-Playing Hooks and Arcs

  • Fellow colleagues from the Mages Guild: - however brief her stay may be, the woman made an impression upon the Counsel in her day. Given the fact that Guild mages gossip like old midwives, it is entirely plausible that some of the rumors, surrounding the discord within the College of Enchanters may had trickled down the hierarchy ladder...
  • Enemies and Rivals: - in her day, the Enchantress made a fair share of enemies, be it amidst the gilded halls of the Ducal ballroom, or the corridors of Eyevea. Political intrigue, the notion of her line coming into play, even a plain old-fashioned envy... the reasons can go on. From coveting the closely-guarded research material, to destroying the last vestige of once mighty House Amelle, ensuring that the Raven Sigil shall never fly again - it is unlikely that the Senior Enchanter shall have an uneventful life any time soon...
  • Customers both past and present: - given her mastery over the fine art of Enchanting, it was only natural to put it to good use. After all, even an sorceress must earn her keep, if she desires to parade the latest-fashion attire, or outfit yet another expedition into the Dwemeri site of interest...
