I wrestle with the question every day. Okay, not really, but more often than not, I'm imagining I'm someone other than myself. Like many other gamers, I live in the fantasy worlds, living adventures some people don't even dream of. That whole "real life" thing, that's like a bad case of virtual reality!
In the not-so-fantasy world, I've been a lot of things. Straight out of high school I joined the Navy to be a Crypto Analyst. It was fun while it lasted. After that, I got my BS in Network Security, another bit that was fun but didn't get me as far as I hoped. For the last 5 years I've been working as a security officer; 3 years as contract security, and the last 2 years as corporate security. Not a bad gig, especially since occasionally I get the opportunity to play ESO at work, and it gives me time to work on my own business, writing modules and creating a campaign world for D&D (hopefully to be released sometime next year.)
My RP experience stems from D&D since 1992, World of Warcraft since 2005, and ESO since 2014. I'm also that dork who plays single-player games like Skyrim and actually RPs, even though no one can see. I have more characters with extensive backstories than most people have years of age, and I love to write stories about the adventures my characters have, whether it's in a video game or just in my head.
Overall, an introvert by nature, I'm more than happy to talk to people in text and chat, but I'm not much for actual speech. (You wouldn't know it to actually meet me, as I can be quite open and friendly if the situation forces it, but I prefer solitude or small groups of like-minded individuals, such as role-players. The facade doesn't stop the internal panic attacks or angry internal monologue that makes me want to just turn and walk away, though!)
So that's me in a somewhat large nutshell. I look forward to meeting people and finding some good RP!
