Background:
Vittoria Gratus was born and raised in Skingrad. As a child she was an intelligent and somewhat shy girl who spent a lot of her time helping her father with his store and reading as many adventure books as she could find. As she grew older, she became interested in sword fighting and, having read some books about how the empire used to be before it's decline, she decided she would join the imperial legion as soon as she became of age.
She made it through training without much of a problem though her size made things a little difficult for her. Once she was out of training, her unit was assigned to patrol the border with Valenwood near her hometown of Skingrad. She worked her way up a few ranks through this posting, even seeing minor combat a few times. Her first real test in combat was when the Colovian Revolt happened. Her unit, along with many others from the region, were ordered to storm the imperial city and overthrow Emperor Leovic after he legalized daedra worship. While she agreed with their reasoning, she later felt she was in over her head but had no choice in the matter.
The war turned her into an almost entirely different person than she was before, gone was the shy, adventurous girl and in came a battle worn woman. Once it was over and a new emperor sat on the throne, things went back to normal for a short time and she was transferred to a heavy infantry unit, where she stayed until her desertion.
Why is she in Dominion territory:
Vittoria had been ordered to retreat along with her legion after the dark anchors dropped on the Imperial City. She was lead to Bravil by her Captain Jena Apinia where they, after a dispute over food, massacred most of the town. Her Captain had to go into hiding after that decision so her legion was sent back up to the Imperial City to rejoin the fight. It was here where Vittoria spent the majority of the war, in the front lines, fighting the alliances and daedra alike until some of her close friends started talking about desertion, seeing as plenty of other legionaries had already deserted.
Her rank as a Centurion made it relatively easy for her and the other deserters to get out of the city without having too much trouble from what was left of the Legion. Once clear of the city, all the deserters split up and went their separate ways. Vittoria wanted to check up on her hometown, though she managed to find little in the way of anything there, except for rumors that her parents had left for nearby Grahtwood. She decided to go look for them, stopping only to sleep and eating what she could gather or buy along the way.
Unfortunately, Vittoria's quest wasn't very successful, with Grahtwood proving too big for her to find anyone in, leading to her eventually giving up and instead trying to find work as a sell-sword wherever she could. Eventually, however, the life in Grahtwood proved too strange for her taste so she made her way to Auridon, where she heard life was better.
