A thick, hide-bound notebook. Its pages are parchment, and it has the interlaced branch symbol of the Bosmer embossed on the cover. Inside, the writing is that of a child, much of it in graphite rather than ink. It's typically left in her bag. ((While the journal is easy to find and read, please let me know if your character is going to try to snoop.))

Afer's Rules for Iron Leaf
No afflicted
No wanted criminals
No bad people
All inturpersonal conflict must be dealt with before embarking on contracts
No saving what we're paid to kill

I'm the recruiter now. It's something to do while I'm in town, I guess. I want to go hunt, but people are attacking the town and we're not supposed to go out alone. A year ago, I would have ignored that, but I know better. Arrow's still recovering and I don't want to get Titus into more trouble than he's probably had recently.

I feel kind of bad for keeping him, but I'm sure his real owner would understand. If he's around. I know th Lu someone else thinks he's alive, but I still have a bad feeling that he isn't and nobody's telling me. I'd call it paranoya, but the fact remains that they all lied by omision when he was banished from Vulkwasten. I can't put it past them to do the same to try sparing my feelings. Grudges are unhealthy, but I still feel bitter about that one. For my peace of mind's sake, I'll just assume he's fine for now.

One day, I'd like to get my own dog. For real. I've been good with Sugar and Titus, and there haven't been any problems having Buddy around the baby litter. Maybe it's time to save up and ask around about breeds and stuff. I want to list traits I want in a dog, but I feel like that presents the same problems you get with thinking about people you'd like. You never get all the things you'll like in one neat package, and sometimes what seems like entirely the wrong fit ends up working. I think I'll just look for a breeder or someone with too many puppies and just let the right dog pick me, when I can swing it.

If the worst hasn't happened and I just get Titus, that is.

"One sword keeps another in the sheath." - Afer's mom

I killed two people today. We were defending the town; I wouldn't call it murder, but it still feels bad to think about how easy it was. Sword in the gut. Blade to the throat. Just carve up the meat like they're game until they stop moving. Even if it was me or them, I feel like it just shouldn't be that easy. Afer is right, though; it was the right thing to do.

I've killed a lot of people. I don't even have my old lists to keep track. Some, I guess you might not count as people - some werewolves, a Maormer or two. A lot of folk who are objectively mer and men. I guess it doesn't matter whether the guy I hit with the mug that one time really died or not. It still bugs me, though.

I hope the Argonian lady is okay. She seems to have got the worst of whatever that magical orb thing did.

minor-ish spoilers
First of Hearthfire

I guess you're supposed to write the date down in these things. Feels weird reading other peoples' journals, even if they're fictional or by someone dead.

I found Wrae almost done for. I guess I can't say I hate her - I don't like her, but I couldn't just let her die. I brought her to the clinic and Kiri and Siirdan heped out.

Benny's gone.

I wish I kept Titus just a little longer - Theo came around and nobody's gone after him. At least there's something to be happy about. Arrow is with Wrae, but I can't be in the clinic right now. I've spent hours looking for a potion just in case Kiri's spell didn't work and I'm too tired to anything but write now. I want to just cry and have someone comfort me without asking what's wrong. Dogs are good for that. So is Arrow, but I know he wants to keep Wrae safe, even after all the shit she did to me.

Second of Hearthfire

I did as many things as I could muster the energy for in the morning, but none of it felt right. I haven't found the potion. I'm sure one of the healers has got around to Wrae, though; I can't just come back to the clinic empty-handed. I just kept thinking about poor Benny, and how I'll never see him again, and it's hard to move or think about much else. I don't know precisely how it happened. I know a little, that it was bad, but I just wish I had been there to defend him. I both wanted a hug, and didn't want to see anyone at all.

Afer found me hiding out in the Iron Leaf Hall. Gizel had her baby - a boy. No name yet.

He said nothing bad is going on, and I didn't have the heart to tell him what happened to Wrae and Benny. I don't know if he really knows either that well, but they've both been part of the village at the same time as him. Still. Someone in my life is happy, and maybe it's selfish, but it makes me feel better to keep it that way, at least for a bit.

Third of Hearthfire

I thought those lines about feeling an invisible weight lifting off of someone's shoulders when they're relieved were cheesy until earlier today. He's not dead, and he wasn't cold when I hugged him. It's okay. Not all of it, but Benny is still around. I'm still crying a little, but they're happy tears.

Estre tried to give me the talk while we were helping this lady who overheated. Our patient seemed kind of out of it. I already know more than I ever wanted to.

I guess Storm might be my dad. I never paid much attention to him, really, until last night. I don't know how to feel. It's weird that I was just talking to Thris about it a week or two prior when I ran into him. I've had so many father figures just leave that maybe I'm scared the real thing will, too, if Storm is even my real dad. I doubt he was Mom's only khajiiti customer fourteen years ago. He's determined to make it up to me without even having proof that I'm his kid, but even if it's true, I'm not sure if I want this...

Maybe I should go talk to Mom again.

It's been a while. I used to write so much more.

We moved to Auridon. Shattered Grove - it's so pretty here. Theo is a guard again, I guess. I didn't get to talk to him today, but he'll be around. You need permits for a few things here, including hunting. I talked to Ky about getting a permit, and he'll loan me the fee, so there's that. His talk of the Maormer and Sload was unsettling, though.

Kana's been acting weird for a while now. Method acting is her thing, I guess. I don't totally understand it, but I it's clearly a big passion and I should support it. I'm sure there's a theatre that has a place for her. Her and Estre were admittedly fun to watch. The whole thing kind of reminded me that I stopped writing stories. I should try that again.

I was up late talking to Wrae and the Inspector - she's still defending her crimes, but he's just like any of the guards I grew up with, assuming anyone who committed one is always going to be the same way. She has a long way to go, but she's trying, and that's something.

Moons, it's been a while.

Ky might not be the real reeve. Do you capitalize Reeve?

Estre dumped Adsomar again, but it sounds like it was for a good reason this time. As far as I know there's no other mer. She was mean to Kana the other night - I felt kind of divided there. Kiri and Kana are my best friends, but Estre's the closest thing I have to a real mom besides Alyss. But on the other hand, if Kana wants Estre to trust her, maybe she shouldn't do things like steal extra roses.

I hardly get to berate anyone about stealing, though. I took a five-finger discount on the very quill I'm writing with, after all.
