Character Name: Oneiran (Oh-NEYR-an)
Race: High Elf
Age: 34
Sex: Male
Affliction: None
Marital Status: Widowed
Sexual Orientation: Gay
Physical Description: Oneiran is a tall high elf of medium, muscular build. He has sharp bone structure and large ears that frame his face to look pointed and angular. He has slightly pale skin and a faint redness around his golden eyes. He has a full beard of medium brown hair, and his hair is shaved and cut into a tufted strip along the center of his head. Oneiran is often seen in unassuming yellow robes with a twisted wood staff.
Personality: Oneiran is quiet and mild-mannered. He is very patient and gentle. He is oddly kind, though it seems much of his demeanor is highly constructed and does not come naturally. He is also quick to anger and easily frustrated, but he takes care not to show much of any rage. When he is left alone to his thoughts, Oneiran seems sullen and tired, one far too weary for the life he claims to lead.
Likes: spices, attractive men, romance, peace and quiet, his family in Auridon, traveling, playing the fiddle, singing
Dislikes: sleeping, vampires, violence, talking about himself or his past, Altmeri & Dunmeri supremacy, the Three Banners War
Strengths: strong build, avoiding conflict, healing and defensive magic, gets along with most people
Weaknesses: chronic anemia, offensive magic, endurance, speed, emotions that are easy to manipulate, very tired
Background:
Oneiran was born in Auridon, raised in a happy family of middle-class high elves as an only child. Within a few years of his birth, it was clear Oneiran was a sick and weak child, though his family found no way to cure him. His family was largely non-religious, though appreciated the Eight for what they were. He was taught magic by his father at a young age, who expected him to grow up and become a great mage. Oneiran quickly excelled at his father's lessons. When he was young, he watched his town’s healer save many people after an attack by bandits, and he started to focus on healing magic with the reluctant support of his parents, though not forgetting other magic. Deep into his studies, Oneiran grew hungry for power and knowledge, almost desperate to push the boundaries of magic.
When he came of age, he moved away to Malabal Tor to continue his studies away from his parents as his own man. He worked briefly in Velyn Harbor as a dockworker to fund his studies, which he kept quiet from the locals. Oneiran’s illness worsened, and he quit the docks to work as a healer’s assistant. He soon met a high elf man named Holnuuril, a spice merchant, and the two became close friends. They started dating, and the two shared everything together. Holnuuril was supportive of Oneiran’s studies and urged him to learn as much as he could. The two moved east and bought a house not far from the Baandari Trading Post, where Holnuuril’s trade flourished, and Oneiran was enchanted by the artifacts and goods from around Tamriel.
Reports of vampire attacks to the south drove Oneiran to curiosity, and, after extensive reading on the subject, he tossed around the idea with Holnuuril to go on a trip southwards to study the magic of vampires. Holnuuril didn’t like the idea, and he asked Oneiran to stay. Begrudgingly, he agreed, and a few years later the two men were married. He asked again. Holnuuril again refused, gave a word of warning, and said he would not support him with such a dangerous idea. Oneiran left anyway to study the Keerilth vampires, who could turn into mist with their magic. He was not as careful as he should have been, and the vampires knew of his presence. He returned to his home, homesick and full of lackluster notes after a week, into the waiting arms of his husband. Unbeknownst to him, a small group of vampires followed him north in the dead of night and attacked the two men. Oneiran fought back the vampires and slew them, but Holnuuril was fatally injured. Oneiran, in shock, buried Holnuuril in the woods. He begged his husband’s grave for forgiveness and heard no answer, feeling only a burning in his chest. Oneiran vowed never again to pursue magic that could cloud his judgment, could drive him to such foolishness and recklessness. He quickly ended his studies and took on the mantle of a full-time healer, his own way of paying penance.
Oneiran made drastic changes to his life, traveling around Tamriel as a healer, though he was soon plagued with horrific nightmares. He began sleeping less and less, and his illness worsened still. Six years later, Oneiran continues traveling as a healer and brings spices wherever he goes in remembrance of Holnuuril, a wound that he fears may never heal.
