Everyone in the town of Shattered Grove knows that the forest nearby has a very unique property - all the animals are docile! One could easily walk up to one of the many bears or wolves that live and hunt in the forest and pat them on the head with no fear of being attacked. This one has. It also makes an interesting way of harvesting bear claws for their uses in vitality potions without having to fight a bear, should one be brave enough. No one knows who, what, or when these stones were carved, but their power has been clear long before the town's settlement, according to some historical sources in the library of Skywatch. There was a short time where the town had been endangered by the animals not so very long ago, when an Altmer conjured a Daedra that took control of the stones, but thank the Moons it was banished.
After spending some time studying these stones, this one has noticed some intriguing characteristics. First of all, They are in a near perfect line! Normally, such things are put into circles or triangles - I am not sure why - but these are not. Secondly, they bare no markings except for one that this one has seen elsewhere. These markings can be found in High Rock, near where the witches known at the Wyresses practice nature magic and pray to what is known as the "Earthbones". They can also be found in Valenwood, where nature magic is abundant, and the Bosmeri god, Y'ffre, is said to have become part of the Earthbones. It is curious that these are here within Auridon, where nature magic is not seen, but as I was told, many of the Gods who created Nirn became part of the Earthbones, and the Altmer make particular note of this within their religion. And lastly, there is no clear source of power from which the stones draw from. This one is still in practice and cannot feel the ebb and flow of magicka as well as others, but she can tell you that what little she can trace, can hardly be so. It is as if they draw from the magic of the earth itself!
Looking at these observations, this one can theorize that these stones were made in one or a possible three ways! It is possible that these were created by nature and the will of the Earthbones themselves, extending this will to the wildlife of the forest, bringing peace to nature. Or, perhaps they were crafted from witchmer! Worshippers of the Earthbones, perhaps ancient bosmer. The last possibility is that they were made by a god who became part of the Earthbones, calming the forest so that their mortal descendants could live in union with the wildlife. Possibly Y'ffre himself! In conclusion, these stones may not have been made by mortal hands at all, and if they were, it was by mer whose magic has been long lost to the passage of time. The best we could hope for in replicating these stones is to go to the bosmeri spinners, or to the witches of High Rock, or a complex calm spell, and hope for the best. These stones are truly unique, and should be treasured and not tampered with!
