Character Name: Karitaes
Race: Nord
Age: 22
Sex: Female
Affliction: None
Physical Description:
Karitaes looks both too short and too weak to be called a Nord. She has a more delicate build, and bears a more curvy and plump figure than one would expect. The blaze-colored hair, pale skin, and colorful sea-colored eyes serve as the representation of her heritage. Being as young as she is, her face carries a youthful glow to it, and her skin has remained smooth and without scar or lines until this point. Her hair is trimmed to her shoulders, straight, and pushed over to the side of her head, obscuring a slight portion of her face.

Personality: Karitaes is friendly and shy, and eager to help those around her. She carries a sense of guilt with her, and it motivates her to attempt great things. She feels isolated and without a home, and this inspires her to seek attention and praise from those around her. She is determined and stubborn, and is motivated by challenges put before her.

Likes: Fires, cheese, reading, music.
Dislikes: Spiders, deserts, yelling, orders.
Strengths: Magic casting, critical thinking, social engagements
Weaknesses: Magic casting, physical activity, persuasion

Background:
Karitaes was born in the cold, surrounded by mid-wives under the glow of a crackling fireplace. Her father was the first to hold her, and cut the cord to sever her from her mother.
“...It’s a girl.” Her father exclaimed quietly, holding unto the new life. She began to cry in his arms, moving her little limbs about. “A very small girl.” He said and hefted the young girl up and down a few times to judge her weight. “She will need to eat a lot.” He joked and looked to his wife.
“Oh, how wonderful.” Her mother laughed weakly amidst her panting, and she smiled when he came close to show her the new child. “She’s so beautiful. Let me see her.”
Her father handed her over carefully, and a midwife came over to quickly swaddle her as the exhausted mother cried, holding her in her arms. “Her name... will be Karitaes.”
“A good name, yes, but how about something stronger? Like... Erika?” The father asked as he folded his arms over his chest.
“Karitaes. For me she will forever be my beloved.”

Karitaes never grew up to become strong like her father had wished. She was certainly made to work, and she was not allowed to leave the table until all of her meal had been finished, no matter how full she claimed to be. She was needed to be strong enough to help the family logging business after all, like her older brother.
But Karitaes grew into a woman day by day, turning into the spitting image of her mother, right down to the lift of her brow, and the way her cheeks shifted when she laughed. But she didn’t do much laughing after her mother was taken from her at twelve. The healer had called it ‘Pike Disease’. They thought it came from eating infected fish. Her father dug the grave a few days later.

Things got harder after she was gone. Karitaes spent less time visiting the town to see friends, and more time visiting the library to learn to read. She wanted to learn more, to broaden her understanding of the world around her. To try and teach herself magic, a practice no one in the town was familiar with. If she wanted further knowledge, she’d have to find it in the Winterhold, where they had a college devoted to the school of magic.

She practiced and practiced, until the point she was confronted by her father. He accused her of trying to abandon the family, and running away to play in a magic world of fantasies. The words cut deep, and Karitaes became convinced there was no love for her in her home anymore. In the night, she gathered what she could carry and stole away into the night. She was seventeen.

The trek across Skyrim was trying, but she refused to give up and turn back. She was stubborn, just like her mother had been, and she persisted until she finally arrived at the college. Despite her youth, they allowed her to prove herself, and she summoned all the might she had to cast a firestorm. It was enough to get her in.

It was everything she wanted, but some part of her heart still wanted more. There was a void there, one left by the absence of her family. Her instructors liked her, and she performed well in her studies. It still wasn’t enough. She felt herself drawn to one of the touchiest subjects in the school - necromancy. While not forbidden within the college, it was kept at arm’s distance from the other classes of study. Perhaps it was the allure of seeing her mother once again that pulled her down a path she wasn’t strong enough to pull out of on her own. Indoctrination is an easy pill to swallow when one is already hungry.

“Sister Karitaes. It will be you who performs the sacrifice tonight.”
“Me? Are you certain? I’ve never been involved... quite like that.”
“I know, and that is why it is important for you to perform the sacrament. Think of it as the... completion to your initiation.” The robed figure spoke to her through a white, expressionless mask. He leaned up against the ancient, grimy stone wall in the frozen cave.
Karitaes rubbed her hands over the same dark robes that covered her thighs. “I suppose... I... who is the subject?” She asked as she looked across the darkly lit cavern, her shadows flickering in the torchlight.
“Just some drunkard we picked up from off the street, no one will miss him.” The necromancer reassures with a small wave of his hand. “You have already shown a particularly strong aptitude for controlling the dead, but you must know the full routine, start to finish before you can be considered a true member of our society.” He approached her and withdrew a long, sharp, stone-looking dagger and held out the hilt to her. “We’ll be preparing them in the ritual chamber when you’re ready.”

It was a ritual she had seen performed before twice. Now it was her turn. Karitaes climbed the pile of bones to arrive at the table, where the other members had surrounded and tied him down. A bag was wrapped over his face, and from the sounds he was gagged. Karitaes remembered the incantations, performed the spilling of blood, and then started to cut through his shirt. She exposed his torso fully, and then reached up to pull off the bag.
It was her brother.
From behind her mask she recognized him, despite his age and new facial hair, there was no doubt, this was her baby brother.
“Is everything all right, sister?”
She expected the question to come from her brother, but it instead came from the villain in the robe before her, the stains of blood on his mask apparent in the candles that decorated the table. These people called her sister, but they were not her real family.
The magic was summoned, and the ritual had been prepared. Karitaes felt the power moving through her, but knew there was only one way she was getting out of here without killing her brother.
A cerulean blue energy swirled through her, moving around the table, and seeping into the bones that surrounded them slowly.
“Mannimarco, King Of Worms, heed my call!” She proclaimed, and raised the dagger. As she spoke, undead hands grabbed and took hold of the legs of the other cult members. Before there was a chance for a reaction, skeleton abominations formed and attacked the cultists. One was pulled down in a fit of screams as a set of skulls bit down and swarmed the necromancer, pulling them into the pit. The next was grappled from behind, and powerful arms took hold of his neck and made a sudden twist. The last, Karitaes brought the dagger down upon, spilling blood. In a few gruesome seconds, it was all over.

She released her brother, but did not reveal herself to him. She couldn’t. In shame, she returned to the college, and confessed her involvement in the cult. Her abuse of the lessons she had been taught, and her complicity in the murder of two individuals in her time. The headmaster could not let it stand, but for her honesty, he did not turn her over to the authorities. Instead, another punishment was decided upon. Banishment. She would be banished from the land, where she could not be prosecuted but where she could also not return to the college grounds.

The college decided where to send her, and she reported for the ritual and to receive her punishment. When it was over, she arrived in a strange new land with enough materials to last for a week, but certainly not with support, or love.
