The altmer keeps a plain looking leather book with two leather ties around it at his camp and sometimes in one of the saddlebags on his horse.

He smells like sweaty fish today. It’s impossible, fish don’t sweat, but somehow he smells like it.

We move around so much it’s just not worth it, or safe, to keep renting rooms. I’m gathering supplies to make a camp that will be easy to pack up in case we need to leave in a hurry. Can never guess who’s murderous husband Gavyn’s going to piss off.

This quiet little town might be a good place to stay more long term. There’s not even a guard here, or really anyone that has enough smarts to run the place.

Gods dammit. This annoying group moved into town and are taking it over. Time to pack up.

I was right, they are all clearly mad. Two dunmer women were just fighting in the middle of town while everyone watched. I’m staying FAR away from those two. They look like the kind of dunmer that suck the life out of you.

So I’m working with one of them. She’s a bitch, but she has a good idea.

The other dunmer isn’t that bad. At least when she’s not yelling about people living in the well.

Since he says I exaggerate on how many insane women he brings back to camp, I’m keeping a list to show him when he “forgets”.

The girl that only spoke dunmeri insults to him all night.
The girl that left a whole deer head on the fire.
The girl that just used him for a place to hook up with the barkeep.
The girl that stole the broom.
The girl that cackles in her sleep.
The girl that spooned ME in the middle of the night.
The girl that tried to drag him into the campfire when he mumbled her sister’s name in his sleep.
The girl who said she was 22 but was really closer to 50. Gods you drink too much, Gavyn.
The girl that wanted to drink rum out of his belly button. Gross.
The girl that did drink rum from his belly button. I’m not getting this belly button thing at all.
The girl that was clearly married to the guy we were supposed to be working with.
The girl that stole his pants while he was still wearing them.
The girl that kept tickling him. And me.
The girl that was obsessed with touching his teeth.

((One name was written in a darker ink, as if it was pressed down harder on the page.))

ALENA.

Now he wants to stay.

The leader of this strange group has died. She was apparently killed by one of the Guardsmen during a brawl. There were witnesses but none of them made it to the trial and he was voted to go free. I guess there’s no justice when your friends don’t stick up for you. I wonder how she’d feel about that, if she knew.

Oil
Three small vials
One large jar
10 Eggs
Trade for some flour
Fish bait
Drop off maul for repairing and sharpening
4 bottles of wine
Hide the wine from idiot roommate

That was the most strange costume party I’ve ever been to. My back is going to hurt for a while.

Now I want to stay.

The following letter is carried by messenger to Hloriella's home. It's closed with a wax seal to ensure no one else has read it.

Nibblet,
I meant to write you sooner but it's been a very strange and frustrating few weeks. I wasn't sure where to start my search, so for the first two weeks, I did a lot of reading and researching. I went back to the building with that charm or spell that prevented me from entering that one room. I was able to convince someone to search the room again and they found a letter addressed to a mage there. The mage was a little hard to find but I finally got to him. He explained that the spell was for a specific vampire that wanted him dead and he eventually moved out of that building, convinced that the vampire was going to get to him anyway. He told me where this supposed coven was but it was a dead end. There was no coven. It was just a long dark cold tunnel with no sign of life or undead. I was so angry at him for wasting my time and making a fool of me, that I went back to beat the hell out of him but someone had gotten there first and killed him. This could have been a coincidence, but it makes me wonder if someone really was watching him.
So now I'm back to square one. I don't know where I'll be going next but I can't stay where I am. I think a good place to start over is back where it all happened, where she turned me. I wish this letter gave you more, but it's all I have for now. Also, don't feel like you must wait for me. Who knows how long this will take. It could be a few days, months, years even. Live your life and maybe when I return, a complete mer, we'll both be ready for that next step.
With love,
Cornstalk
P.S.- This ridiculous nickname makes this somber letter seem like such a joke.

The following letter is carried by messenger to Alena's home. It's closed with a wax seal to ensure no one else has read it. It also says 'PLEASE READ' on the back.

Buttercup,
If you haven't tossed this right into the fire before breaking the seal, thank you for hearing me out. I didn't mean to scare you the last time we spoke. I didn't mean for any of this to happen and I certainly didn't mean what I said. I'm glad that he and I stayed with the town. I'm thrilled that you two are getting married and that he has finally found someone that makes him truly happy.
I don't know if he's told you, but I'm searching for a cure. I'm not even sure if there is one out there but I believe that finding the woman that turned me will help. She's not going to be easy to find so I may be gone for a long while. If you and him are married before I return, I want you to go to my camp and lift up the cot. There's a crate buried underneath it which holds all of my good wine. The ones I hid from him after you two drank my best one the night you got together. My wedding gift to you both until I return. Keep him out of trouble.
Your friend,
Cornstalk
P.S.- I don't know which of you started this godsdamn nickname but I'm starting to regret not arguing against it before.

A second letter has the same seal.

Meathead,
If she burns her letter without reading it, dig under the cot at our camp and you'll find where I hid the good wine. Congratulations buddy, you've caught a stubborn one. I'll try to make it back before the wedding.
