Spoiler

Once, long ago, Aeilywiin was a mistress of magic. Claiming to have descended from non other than Auri-El herself, Usion's mother, Aeilywiin, was a well known great sorceress. She was looked up to even in Grahtwood, where the wood elves stood. During her lifetime, many prejudices were brought upon her, and she overcame throughout it all. Some 200 years into her life, she finally married another well known elf, claiming to be of royal blood, Ishlimor. They married for mutual benefit and political gain within the kingdom. Some years later, before the birth of their child, Ishlimor was somehow transported to a place which he refereed to as "The plane of impossibilities". There, he met Sheogorath, the Daedric prince of madness. He was unable to escape for quite some time, and it is unknown exactly what happened while he was in this alternate realm. When he finally did escape, Aeilywiin greeted her husband with a heartfelt longing and decided that she needed to carry on their noble name, Thus, Usion was born.

Early life
Spoiler

When Usion was born, it seemed as though he had a magical energy trapped within him. No one knew why, but certain portions of his skin along his chest and arms seemed to glow. In Usion's early years, it was decided that this must have been a gift from Auri-El herself, and that Usion would one day grow into the best magician the region of Dominon had seen. He grew up a noble, and much of his attitude reflects this. He was used to high society, looking down on the poor and looking up to the great. Aspiring to be better. Wanting to do his diligence to the gods and his country. When Usion was in his mid 50's, it was discovered that the meaning behind his strange glowing skin was magical in nature, and could be harnessed through the power of tattoos. He was send off to an ancient elf who had studied these matters, and gave him the markings you see today.

Early Adolescence (For an elf)
Spoiler
When Usion first turned 55, the madness set upon Usion's father Ishlimor suddenly started to take it's toll. Sheogorath had cursed his father to have impure offspring, radiating with magical energy. Unfortunately, no one knew this, not even Ishlimor himself. It was believed that he was simply going insane after many years of internal toil while dealing with the fact that he had spent many years within the realm of madness. He kept talking about some strange energy that he felt, and how it seems to center around his offspring. Usion started studying Sheogorath and the realms of possibilities that a prince of madness could hold. He also continued his magical studies until he was ready to adventure.

Current
Spoiler
Around 100 years has past. His father, Ishlimor, has been committed to an insane asylum. No one really knows exactly what happened while he was within the realm of madness, but everyone knows the outcome. Usion has some sort of strange magical energy flowing within him. And the tattoos he has change color based on his emotions. Usion's current goal is to strengthen his magical energy and find the meaning behind why this happens. He is also very interested in knowing what may have happened while his father was in the realm of madness.

Heya. Things initially looked in order, but there are quite a few things I'd like to address within your backstory. Keep in mind that I understand you're new to TES lore, so it's all kinda fresh for you, but these are just guild-wide rules and a few lore pointers to shift you in the right direction.

General Lore Rules-

1. No "chosen one" or "main champion of [insert Aedra/Daedra here]" type characters.

Your character seems to have a very exponential amount of interaction between Aedra and Daedra. Gifts given by said Aedra, such as Usion's tattoos, can't fly for this reason. In lore, tattoos have no evidence to suggest them possessing any sort of magickal potential; as such, it is safe to say that they possess no ability to change based on the alteration of one's mood.

2. Elves age just like men do; they just live longer once they've matured.

Elves mature at the same rate as regular man; they mature around the age of 18 to 21, and begin to slowly age and deteriorate from there. Elves can live naturally up to 200 years by Zenimax's lore, but in truth, there is still a big debate stating that elves can live thousands of years. Kashya, for instance, is in her early 20s, but is a fully matured woman. 55 isn't adolescent; it's more comparable to being around 30 years of age.

3. The Madgod, Sheogorath, is incredibly potent.

I actually have a bit of experience in this. Kashya used to be completely normal, until her intense studying of the Madgod quietly drove her mind off the railing, but not to the point where it completely overtook her mind. The studying had captured the interest of the madgod, who had begun to play games with her until her religious pilgrimage, in which she completely devoted her spiritual endeavors to the Daedric Prince, Hircine.

This works because Kashya was not entirely exposed to the insanity of the Madgod. Being sent to the Shivering Isles, (which wouldn't be guild-friendly in the first place, as this would suggest Sheogorath has 'chosen' your character for special traits), would likely completely damn your character's sanity. In other words, Usion's father would be too out-of-it to even consider the option of staying in one place long enough to conceive Usion.
It's also worth noting that there are no "insane asylums" on Nirn.

4. Your characters seem to be of Influential nobility, which can only work within the guild under certain circumstances.

While we do encourage creativity within the characters, your character can't be direct lineage of a royal family leading an historically notable town. This would suggest that your character holds a notable influence in history, which can't work for lore purposes. While your character can be of noble lineage, the root of this lineage must be unknown. Ex. Your character can't be the High Queen, or the king of some town like Marbruk, or anything of the like.

In summary, it's really just best if your character weren't initially too interesting at first. Since you're still new to the lore, my suggestion is to start out with a Plain Jane character, so you're not constantly bordering lore-friendliness within your roleplay. As you learn more about the lore, you can venture out and explore new concepts based on your newfound knowledge. I did this with Kashya, and I can personally say that it has avoided several potential screw-ups in lore-friendliness. Best of luck on your sheet. ^

Hey there. Let me address some of your points and what I think about them.

Parents:

Mother -
So According to the lore in the very first sentence, just about every Altmer can claim some sort of direct descendance to Auri-El. I picture my character having grown very close to his mother, and his family was rather well off. This doesn't mean that they have to be nobles, or actually have proof of direct linage to Auri-El, but I see my character as being a rather pompus individual whom was raised to believe that he was above the normal social class. I picture my mother telling me that she actually was somehow related to him, even if it wasn't true. This means that I would have no reason to doubt that it was false.

Father -
So while I mentioned earlier that my parents don't have to have nobility, I still feel as if him somehow going into Sheogorath's realm before I was even born is okay to include in my history. I picture him slowly growing more and more mentally unstable (before my birth) and my mother thought that perhaps having a child would help him become somewhat more "normal". It was during this time that she got pregnant, and unfortunately, the child (me) did not help with his condition and he eventually went so insane he had to be locked up. They never had any other children together.

Tattoos -
Before you completely discount the thought of color changing tattoos, consider that the following already exists:
Magic, curses, spirits who can astral project and talk to people, werewolves, vampires, and many other things that wouldn't normally happen. Is it totally outside the realm of possibility that someone wouldn't have something like this? I don't think it is. My original thought behind this was that my father had some sort of curse related to magica cast upon him while he was within the daedric prince Sheogorath's realm. He transferred that curse to me, and I've grown with it my entire life. What I thought and many others had told me was that it was just a very potent form of magical energy that flowed from within me. It's not the tattoos that change color themselves, it's the magic that's within my body that changes the color of the ink. Keep in mind that this is a VERY bad thing to have. I'm fairly sure there's no sort of mind-reading magic in this game, so the ability to determine someone's emotional state by merely looking at them, this is very bad. My character wants to find the reason behind why this has happened to him, and perhaps even somehow stop it.

Why not just make a Plain Jane?
I'll be honest here. Your right. I don't know the ESO lore very well. However I was a very active role player on a WoW server and also have a regular weekly D&D night that I myself run. I really enjoy role playing, giving my character a clear set of goals that he wants to do, and events that can be ran around his background even if I have to run them. While I don't plan on exploring a lot about what I've written in my background in the immediate future, it is important for me to actually have a background to explore and work through within events. I could go many ways with this background. I could solve the curse of the magical energy that flows from within me, perhaps learn to channel it. I could have my father come back as a madman and do something irrational. I could learn of an illness my mother has taken and rush off to try and help her through her death.

I also have no plans on creating another character. This is going to be my main. Probably the only character I will level in this game as well. I want to have clear-cut options that I can fully plan on preparing for future RP encounters.

In closing

Thanks for your input. Perhaps I needed to make it more clear what my intentions were when I came up with the background, and maybe now you have a better understanding of what I was originally thinking. If this still simply won't work for reasons related to lore, I'd like specifics. Why won't it work?

I appreciate your feedback and will post edits to the character along with updates on what I've changed in the form of replys on this sheet. So far, I haven't changed anything. I'd like cross-input on this post first.

I understand your character's history is important to you, but these are our guild rules. There will be no exceptions; I don't mean to be rude, of course, but I'm set to a standard. That being said, I'll continue to point out things that violate these rules, and things that do are not consistent with lore.

1. Nobody, except for the Champion of Cyrodiil, has explored the Shivering Isles and come back sane.

This is why there is so little information in lorebooks on the Madgod; despite this, we do have a plethora of lore on him thanks to the Shivering Isles DLC from Oblivion. Even then, the Champion of Cyrodiil became the Madgod himself, even took on his form while in the Isles. He housed the form of a Daedric Prince. Your character's father is no special case; this is to maintain the prevention of metagaming.

2. Your claim still does not support tattoos changing based upon mood.

Magicka does not directly alter the world of Nirn. It is the raw form of Aetherian energy, produced from the plane of Aetherius. It is not a direct imbuement of any physical object, nor can it directly alter any physical object; only move it. This is why fantastical ideas such as "blood magic" does not work in Elder Scrolls lore; you cannot bend materials and change them; only levitate them to a degree, using a focused measure of magicka that a person utilizes.

Because of this, magicka cannot physically have any correlation between physical altercation and emotion; it simply does not work. While your character may be able to voluntarily change the color of their tattoos using some form of illusion magick, no school of magicka will physically alter this; especially based on the character's emotion. Alteration magic still does not physically bend the materials of the earth; it acts more like a "figurable hand," changing the world's physics rather than its materials. It alters physical truths, rather than changing material objects.

The lore of Nirn does hold plenty of possibilities, indeed; still yet, you have to recall that there's enough lore within this game to wrap around the world twice. There are a lot of technicalities.

there are quite a few things regarding Auri-El that I'd like to address, but if your character's parent's claims are false, then I don't have a lot of reason to go into that. It would just be worth noting that Auri-El is the Elven variant of Akatosh. "Auri-El is thought to be only the ancestor of the upper castes in early Aldmeri society, and was adopted by other Aldmer to better emulate their social 'betters'."

Mother
Spoiler

My mother was a rather rich Elf, and she went to court often. She always had a sense of piousness, believing herself and her family to be of royal blood. This was never proven, but it did not stop her attitude and much of that has carried over to Usion's belief system.

He impressed her with his knowledge and witty banter, even though his mother was a pompous individual who swore she would never marry anything other than nobility. A few years into their marriage, Usion's father was researching Sheogorath and read a bunch of tomes when he started to show signs of mental deterioration. Usion's mother decided that she wanted to "save" the relationship and potentially make his father "better" by having a child. Unfortunately, this did not work, and it sent Usion's father to be locked up umongst the criminally insane, and he was born with his mother raising him.

Early Life
Spoiler

When Usion was a rather young elf, he was treated and respected as if he was above all the other elves in the region. His mother raised him to believe that he was of great importance and would one day do something extraordinary, Ever since his birth, he felt a strong sense of magical energy flowing from within him, but he couldn't explain why. He was brought up hoping one day he would join the mages guild.

Current
Spoiler

Usion has recently joined the mages guild. His mother sits and waits for him to return with good news, his father still locked up in some asylum for the insane. Who knows what will happen. From here on out, Usion is on his own.

Heya. Your revamped sheet is looking good, and you've done everything Kashya has asked. I'm giving this the Talia stamp of approval.

Please read through our guild bank rules and take a look at our faction page, since these are part of getting to Full Member on our guild roster.
