ESO Name: @Malevolent_Dawn
Character Name: Auranok
Race: Altmer
Age: 1300
Sex: Male
Marital Status: Widower
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Affliction: Vampirism
Physical Appearance:
See Attachment. (Note: The circlet under the hood is important.)
Personality:
Auranok sees potential in every encounter and will pursue any opportunity he believes will result in his personal gain, or pain for his enemies. While he is by nature one to avoid contact with others, he can often be seen socializing with mortals to maintain appearances and avoid suspicion. Auranok can almost be called a cynic as his age has altered his view of many issues and situations in a way that only the immortal can understand. Despite being a vampire for over a millennium, Auranok is typically very wary of other vampires and will avoid them unless an opportunity for gain presents itself. Lycanthropes are not among his friends, though lycanthrope companions can be seen in his history, rare as they may be. In conversation, Auranok is most comfortable observing rather than engaging, but is no stranger to lively banter when the time is right, so long as blackened humor qualifies as 'lively'. Finally, while he recognizes the achievements of mortals, Auranok regards them more akin to livestock, rather than sentient beings and lasting bonds with mortals are an extremely rare occurrence.

Auranok was never a fool, even over 1,300 years ago, before he received night's kiss. Years of immortality have slowly shaped him into a cynic though as the realization that life, among many other things, is fleeting began to sink in deeper. These years of experience have made him able to blend with mortal society along with powerful enchantments that hide his appearance from mortals. Auranok now spends his days seizing opportunity before him, a creature of whim.
Backstory:
Born sometime around 1E 2200 in the city of Dusk in the Summerset Isles, Auranok is an Altmer Sorcerer with a long history. He grew up with aspirations of becoming an official in service of the royal family, but his plans were rocked by the Thrassian Plague, the terrible pandemic that wiped-out half of the population of Tamriel. During this time of unrest caused by the Plague, Auranok was found to have an aptitude for combat magic and quickly joined groups dedicated to keeping the peace.
He pursued this line of work for 87 years before meeting his future spouse, Curwyne, in the city of Cloudrest. Auranok spent long periods of time in Cloudrest and was married there. They settled together in Cloudrest where Auranok took up blacksmithing and woodworking. After 15 years of marriage, Curwyne came to be with child, but the happiness was short-lived; the child was stillborn. The loss of their child broke Auranok, causing him to sink into depression. He found purpose again when he received a letter from his old commander asking him to help with a new wave of unrest. He left for Lillandril to work with the group again which helped him forget the loss, but at what cost of everything he held dear.
During a routine mission, Auranok's squad was attacked and captured by a group of vampires; the vampires tortured the group, many of which died during torture which included being fed upon, or were devoured by the vampires. Auranok became infected with Sanguinare Vampiris soon after the torture began. The group made one desperate attempt to escape, which resulted in all but Auranok being devoured or killed. The last survivor, Auranok made his way back to Lillandril, but not before succumbing to his infection, and becoming a vampire. Upon arriving in Lillandril, he soon discovered how vampires are treated among the living, barely escaping with his life. It was several months, during which he fed as little as possible, before he could return to Cloudrest and Curwyne.
The happy reunion turned somber quickly, however, as Auranok was unable to hide his affliction for long and regretfully revealed himself to Curwyne. She drew back in fear and began screaming for the guards, the love her eyes had once held replaced by fear and hatred. Auranok pleaded with her, but it was no use; betrayed, he gave in to his raging bloodlust and slew his love, leaving a pristine, bloodless corpse.
Auranok left the Summerset Isle behind for an almost nomadic life of seclusion, never spending long in any one place, the years seeming to meld into one. This ended when he met a powerful enchanter, who gifted him with a circlet to hide his affliction from the living. Auranok began to reintegrate himself into society and turned his nomadic nature into a life as a mercenary, solving any problem for the right price. Upon the outbreak of The Alliance War, Auranok saw opportunity and joined the Daggerfall Covenant, working to keep the alliance together for a short time before turning his attention to greater goals. Auranok began travelling through all the alliances, offering services for the right price, which he continues to this day.
The Dominion:
During his many years as a mercenary, Auranok learned that competition for jobs is stiff and ruthless. He never had an issue finding steady work as he far surpassed the competition, save one; a Khajiiti sneak by the name of Ko'daran who was also a vampire. The two always seemed to be running the same jobs and saw far too much of one another, when forced to work together, they often clashed violently. The height of the conflict arrived when Ko'daran was tasked with Auranok's assassination.
Auranok was in the city of Ebonheart when Ko'daran sprung his ambush, wounding Auranok. The fight soon became so violent it could be heard outside the city. Auranok finally triumphed, gravely wounding Ko'daran who fled back to his home, the Aldmeri Dominion. Auranok recovered quickly and sailed for the Dominion, searching for signs of his rival and would-be killer. The search continues to this day, with every lead Auranok has found ending in a cold trail. Those who know him best say Auranok will never give up the search until he can return with his rival's ashes.
