Part 1: The Man
ESO @name: @SessionZero
Character Name: Balgrum gro-Khazgur
Race: Orc
Age: 30
Sex: Male
Marital Status: Single
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Affliction: None
Physical Description
Balgrum is a mountain of meat, standing at the tall end of about 6' 3" and weighing almost 280 lbs. He wears his hair in a close-cropped style, save for the warrior's tail at the back, and has a long beard that he keeps bound with rough twine. His face carries several scars from past battles, and his eyes are a pale yellow. His skin is on the lighter side of green. Covering his beefy arms are tattoos that he likes to show off and slap when wrestling for sport, a show of intimidation and dominance for his enemies. You can hear Balgrum's warcry from the other end of the battlefield, a deep and rich bellow designed to shake his enemies to the core.
He prefers heavy armor and a greatsword or warhammer, and wears little jewelry save for a stud in his lip and ring in his nose.
Part 2: The Myth
Personality
Balgrum is a typical Orc in that he is most alive when fighting and smithing. Nothing gives him greater pleasure than killing a worthy opponent, the thrill of which always makes him let loose with one of his infamous hell screams. Second to that is the creation of a fine Orcish piece of armor or weapon; his skills at the forge are eclipsed only by his skill in utilizing his creations for war. He prefers to keep his home and forge in solitude, away from the sounds of civilization.
Balgrum is not a typical Orc in that, while he prefers to keep his home away from people, he prefers to keep himself right in their midst. He is arrogant and known to boast, and boasting's no fun when it falls on the deaf ears of trees and rocks. Some of Balgrum's favorite pass-times are spending his hard-earned blood money in taverns, drinking, bragging, wrestling, and buying courtesans of all races.
Balgrum isn't all arrogance and violence, however. Despite his seemingly roguelike nature, he does retain some sense of Orcish pride and nobility, and can honestly claim he has never once accepted a bribe or been bought while on a job. He also greatly respects strength, as all Orcs do, and will happily admit to being bested in a fair fight, buying his adversary a victory round. Loyalty and honor in combat are among Balgrum's closest-held ideals.
Why is your character in Dominion territory? How did they get here?
Not being very fond of stronghold life, Balgrum left his own at a very young age, deciding that his life would consist of more than servitude to the chieftain. For years he traveled Tamriel as a sellsword, building a reputation and honing his skills. Eventually he came to Dominion lands, and found steady work as a strong-arm for the comparatively demure elves and Khajiit. When the Alliance War started, he saw no reason to cut off his steady supply of coin and remained in Dominion lands as a mercenary.
Part 3: The Legend
Background
Born to the chieftain and the Forge-Wife of his misty Wrothgar mountains stronghold, Balgrum began life large and would continue this trend throughout childhood. Big even by orc standards, Balgrum spent much of his childhood learning the forge and the ways of war. Though stalwart in his duties, he nevertheless spent much of his time with an eye cast towards the lands surrounding his stronghold, and as he grew, so did his wanderlust. Eventually, deciding that his destiny was not a life of subservience to the stronghold walls he'd known from birth, he struck out from the Wrothgar mountains to see the lands of Tamriel, and perhaps find where his destiny truly led.
Years were spent selling his blade to any who would offer coin. He preferred not to take on similar jobs right after one another, trying to find which field of work suited him best. He guarded caravans, raided bandit camps, cleared mines of angry wildlife, protected curious scholars, and served at archaeological digs as a sword arm in case any angry spirits or restless undead emerged from the depths (which they very often did). He garnered a taste for living in the moment, making heaps of coin and spending it just as quickly. Almost every tavern in Tamriel had its doorstep shadowed by his massive form at least once, and more than one entrepreneurial maiden made a hefty sack of coin off of him.
Eventually he found his way south to Dominion lands, and there he found that his hulking form and sharpened skills were in high demand by the comparatively smaller Dominion races. Here he stayed longer than any other place in his life, save the stronghold of his birth, making good coin off of his employers. It mattered little to him that they saw him as little more than a meat shield and a brute - it was not an inaccurate assessment, truth be told. And he knew that regardless of race, the glint of gold turns even the haughtiest of men and mer into a friend. At the onset of the Alliance War, the call was made for Orcs to rally to the defense of the Covenant and Orsinium, but Balgrum remained right where he was, content to serve his Dominion employers, and continue to reap the benefits he had enjoyed for so long.
