Character Name: Veridia Beastfriend
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Race: Bosmer
Affliction: Werebat
Occupation: Hunter and barterer.
Physical Traits:
Green eyes, brown dread locked hair, pale complexion, fairly lithe and slender, sharpened teeth.
Personality:
Bubbly, passionate but compassionate, sometimes intensely curious but shy at others due to her inexperience, a bit 'loose' when it comes to ownership and personal space.
Strengths/Skills:
Excellent with a bow, small and nimble, heightened senses, stealthy, good with animals.
Weaknesses:
Illiterate (she has people read books to her), hobbled in her knowledge of certain things by being raised a Green Pact Bosmer (such as the application of medicinal/alchemical plants), not much knowledge of the world outside Valenwood, all the downsides of being a werebat.
Background:
Veridia Beastfriend was certainly an oddity among Bosmer even from an early age, finding within herself a compassion for the animals they hunted to the point of hesitance in killing them. She could not reconcile in her mind why the green was more sacred than they were, though she still loved both in equal measure. When she was given the honor of what was to be her first kill, she refused and frightened the beast off when one of her hunting companions attempted to step in themselves and finish it. From that day she was dubbed "Beastfriend" by everyone in her tribe, intended as an insult but she wore it as a badge of pride. She eventually got over her distaste for hunting but she was always finding ways to hunt and kill more compassionately so as to minimize their suffering. Though many aspects of her culture stood against her own spirit she never the less tried to respect it and would not hurt the green.
On one particular day while with a hunting party, they were attacked by a werebat that apparently had been chasing the same quarry but decided they looked more appetizing. Veridia was in the best position to fell the beast before it harmed anyone but her hesitance - due in part to both her awe of the rare creature and the lack of a clear, swift killing blow as was within her nature - led to the death of one of her fellow hunters before the rest felled it. Unfortunately the dead hunter's lifemate was in the party as well and was furious with Veridia. Before anyone else would dare to act she ripped out one of the werebat's diseased fangs and wielded it as a dagger, plunging it into Veridia's gut and maiming her legs so as to prevent her from easily wandering off, her 'punishment' for not respecting the tribe and the mer's mate enough to do what was necessary. The huntress kept the fang as a threat against the rest of the hunters to hold their tongues and not aid Veridia or they'd join her as well, either in death or heresy as a shapeshifter - whichever would befall Veridia she left to fate as they left and abandoned her.
Veridia's fate was ultimately the latter, which while her skill in bandaging herself and new beast blood allowed her to heal well enough to not die, when she experienced her first excruciating shift she knew she could not return to the tribe. She sought to make herself a home in isolation until she could master her new reality as one of Hircine's own. Her attempts at mastery were perhaps partially aided in subtle ways by the daedra himself, who took pity on the one that had attempted to bring a level of honor to her practice of the hunt. She eventually found that she had a rapport with beasts as well and befriended many to the point of joining them in their own hunts, sharing in the spoils when she did so.
Ultimately the predatory beasts were her new hunting party, which was just fine by her, but now that she was no longer constrained by her tribe's customs or the Green Pact she became more curious about the world outside and ever sought to expand her knowledge - first by connecting with local Khajiiti traders and through their tales and the knowledge gleaned from their books expanded further out into the world. She found she was adept at theft as well, though her compassion led to it being something she only generally practiced on those who she thought had 'earned' it or could suffer the loss. Seeking more opportunities to learn and expand, when she got the invitation from the Jackals to join them she gleefully jumped at the chance.
Why is your character in Dominion territory? How did they get here?
Because she was born and raised in Valenwood. She only recently started venturing outside of Valenwood.
